I can use the console, I actually use it very often. I don't know how to unlock all the genes if that's what your saying. Is there a command for that?

Not yet, but they're planning to add it in the next update. Speedruns or using old files really are the only current methods :/. You could just skip the cold genes and start in the oasis (with heat body). Cheat in & unlock ancients/bearyena/round ears and it should work well enough.

Can you explain the food part? I don't really understand

The last two challenges need a lot of console use. The general idea is to up the starting food, as starting with no paws and 20 pieces doesn't work well enough. It also needs all/most genes unlocked. Very set up heavy, in other words. But a lot of fun. It might not be worth it if it's too much effort or you don't like the console.

There are comprehensive guides when you search the term. The dangers vary from person to person, but I've never had a major bug while others lost savefiles. Somewhere near the next month(s) all those issues should be fixed, so you might just want to wait until it's bug-free. Or browse the Steam site, most need little set-up.

  3. The Amazon challenge -- you can keep only one male around at all times. Try to let every female have one child and avoid breeding pairs. Setting a low creature limit and starting on harder island adds more challenge.

-- Randomize your starters with a generator. Don't give them any mutations, unless to "pull out" traits (recessive green eyes). Establish a successful line with possibly useless traits and send one creature to the next island. Repeat. (And maybe reset the food count).

Start on a difficult island with this gene configuration: (all genes dominant and recessive)

    -- derpsnout + no paw

-- lean body and no horns (for zero strenght)

-- hemophilia and bad fertility (1+1)

-- mask, bright fur, any eye colour

    -- Stinky tail or Tailfin

I recommend the deadly hills. All genes need to be unlocked and chosen by a random generator. Choose between 50 -100 food to start with, 70 is comfortable, 60 might mean some starving with bad luck. You also can't release creatures (but can kill them otherwise). Breeding with wanderers has to be unlocked.

So if you manage to mutate claw + no paw, only no paw + any paw wanderers are available. Higher fertility and other Health genes are fine. I recommend this part to make it harder but not annoying.

About the food, only invite wanderers to gather if you're running really, really low. The food count is meant to be a ticking time bomb. Whether you end up with speed, strenght or great gathering skills, you should be able to survive there.

  4. What bad traits might he have?

    I assume:

    -- double derpsnout

    -- no pattern

-- (recessive bad eyesight) to full bad eyesight?

    -- (sometimes no paw)

Maybe an immunity gene that makes any offspring sick? Or otherwise problematic? It would explain why there are so few of them, the killer rogue being a rare surviving mutant. And make him more threatening in the usual rogue-male fashion. If he has scorpion tail and I start there, 100% would bread.

I know, I just noticed that it looked like I had copied your creature and altered a few genes, I commented that because it was a coincidence and I didn't want you to think I had stolen your nicheling, hope you understand

and I'm actually also aries but i like antlers better oof

I don't think you can steal a description. I mean, theoretically, people could randomly end up with the exact same configuration. But that's hardly copyrighted and not something you can avoid. "Describe yourself - but not like that!" just isn't fair. So please don't worry, a level of resemblance isn't bad.

  6. I once had a nondescript female jump on a crabbit. Apparently, that counts as behind when you invite them in. Also, I started on a grass mingle once and almost every wanderer had scorpion tail in some form. Abusing the spawn command lets Adam's family have some weird traits at times. Nothing too interesting, in other words.

I just read this after I made mine.... she is really similar to mine, even down to the asexuality.... 😮

At least you didn't misspell propably (and 23 other things) .Unless you're an Insomniac with major lapses of judgement, I am not too impressed. But the antlers are regretable. Astrology isn't really meaningful, but as an Aries, ram horns would have been more fitting.

  8. All that time better spent studying has to go somewhere. Or maybe I just enjoy the thrill of crash learning. 😅

But I've been playing more Equillinox than Niche. My first attempt wasn't great in terms of altitude and attempting the lush biome without the reward from completing all missions was really not worth it.

And then Steam magically subtracted multiple hours from all games. Finished 2 playthroughs in "4 minutes". Clearly, I'm a genius.

  9. Hemophilia, no paw, short sighted nichelings... these elements aren't a necessary part of someone's identity. If asked, I doubt anyone would like to remain arm-less. Nicheling's aren't a someone, though, they have no feelings or being. But for roleplaying purposes, I like to pretend otherwise.

In this framework, what's your take on reincarnation? Should these issues be fixed, sometimes fixed or fixed at all?

    Case 1: Indigo

Still beautiful and able to pick her favourite toxic berries.

Case two: shortsighted eyes, double no paw.  Like this guy:

Additionally, is the derp snout part of who they are, or should they receive a different snout gene?

  10. I have some less epic gods, but they fit their roles the most out of my limited choices.

Trout - Revenge, Dedication, Loss, Atonement (pink gems)

Trout originated from an Amazon pack, where only one male can be around.  Others are released - or in his case - given a task. 20181030_234420.thumb.jpg.6fc013363954652356dada49112acfc0.jpg

Trout met a wanderer. He could swim and find water breathing plants while Trout provided food. Over a lifespan, they eventually fell in love and returned to the land. However, on their way to the tribe, they were ambushed by two bearyenas. Old and frail, his mate died in two swipes. Trout went to chase both bearyenas down, but succumbed to old age, never completing his mission. In the very same tribe, he would be reborn again and again until the savefile was deleted.

Trout watches over all lovers plighted by unfortunate circumstances. A nicheling might be reincarnated and meet their love again, be healed or have days added to their lifespan. However, he is merciless to those who shun their tribemates. Everyone deserves a second chance, one independent of birthright.

Raresi -- Goddess of Fortune and Fate. Rare watches over all who wander. (Blue gems)

    20181212_233631.thumb.jpg.861fa38521b61fe32a9dc44370211e2a.jpg

The one pawed derpsnout was born out of desperation to preserve the digging paw. While her younger sister inherited all the good genes, she didn't even have fluffy tail.

Somehow, she survived all of my ploys to murder her well into old age. Never froze, wasn't attacked by either balance bear, never approached by the rogue male...

As that, she is my epitome of luck, good and bad. As she watches over wanderers, they are never attacked by meat eating plants or rogues. She gives them the energy to go on living and the will to survive. Rare, however, stays far away from water, which is the realm of Lace. Both believe in sacrifice and testing other's spirits. Meaning there is little conflict about borders, as the shores are hounded by Trout, anyway.

Lace -- Healing, Souls, Challenge, Spite. (Red gems)

A sweet wanderer, too sweet to be true. Lace founded a cursed tribe when she could not have her will: any males would go mad in short time. Their endless journey would break their bones until their paws were misshapen, useless things. Their snouts became a mess of endlessly snapping teeth, their fur almost bald and devoid of patterns from poor nutrition. Lace siccs her endless hordes of rogue males and misfortune on the unsuspecting. Those in her favour may enjoy the watery plants by the shore, others she will drown, either in water, hatred or lust.

    20181013_014453.thumb.jpg.a4cc190d943c6fc90bf234be682fe4c4.jpg

Flame -- Beauty, Hearth, Icy landscapes, Fire.

    20181110_201824.thumb.jpg.d6e17b20b195b08cd5bf5db0084790f9.jpg

    (Male form)

The most lackluster of all, Flame simply seeks to find beauty and joy in every enviroment. They paint the landscape and nicheling's fur. Flame likes large families and rejects sacrifices as a necessary step of survival, putting them in direct conflict with Lace and Rare.

    (Female form)

    20181106_022455.thumb.jpg.f7b34e8f6429b8d666cc612efafaa1a2.jpg
As I couldn't decide between these two, both became Flame.

  11. Generally: new desirable trait? If yes, vet for traits requiring mutation (2 bad snouts, double no pattern...) if i expect more than two bad traits being passed on, it's a no.

Fertility isn't that important. A high stat is a plus, but low ones are easy enough to fix. Same for hemophilia. They almost always produce a very unrealistic, healthy son. Even if they don't, it just doesn't spread.

Frog legs are a hell no. It takes forever, 4 generations forever to remove, once they enter a breeding pair. Scorpion tail is my favourite, mitigating most issues if it passes on well.

Exceptions are made for high risk high reward pairings. Rougeling passed on all of his water genes. Mom had big body and fishing tail, giving water body automatic dominance. If the first child hadn't been great, there was a very hungry bluebird overhead.

    20190119_024746.thumb.jpg.94e2d3509cce7b61ccbf6e7057e1fbbd.jpg

As it is, he got the bad fertility and a novel immunity gene. Love him.

I don't believe that counts. Needs 32.7 % more screaming in agony at creative commons. Never before has stealing pictures been easier for my assignments or made them uglier.
