  1. This is a cool idea, but there are a few things I would change. I would base the ears off of something like the jackrabbit, who actually lives in a hot climate and has ears adapted for letting off heat, rather than a domestic bunny, who is adapted for a temperate climate which doesn't experience extreme heat or cold. I would also give it the same stats as the big ears. As @Veroni said, not every new part has to have better stats or new features Lop ears would be a cute cosmetic trait, but would come with no benefits and would interfere with hearing. I wouldn't mind seeing it added in the game though. It could perhaps be added in a separate gene slot so it could affect all eat types (lop ears show up in dogs, cats and goats, maybe more, as well as rabbits). It could leave the nicheling with only 1 hearing, so it would be something you'd want to breed out of your tribe I would also base the tails appearance on wild rabbits and deer, who have longer tails and more noticeable white markings on the underside of their tail and rump, instead of bunnies like the ones in @Veroni's pictures, which have pretty small tails
  2. Couldn't find any posts like this, but I feel like someone's probably suggested it before so let me know if I missed it. This would be a short tail, like a lynx's, and would have 2 cold resistance. It would be unlocked by spending a certain amount of time, probably around 25-30 days, in a cold climate
  3. I love shoebills (not really sure why) and I think this would be a cool way to add fishing for nichelings with wings. It would have 1 smell, 2 fishing and 1 attack and would be unlocked by having 50 nichelings with the fishing tail Links to other beak suggestions:
  4. This beak would be similar to the parrot beak, having 1 smell and 2 collecting, but instead of cracking it would add 1 attractiveness. This would be useful seeing as we only have 1 gene that has this ability so far, and also it would let females have attractiveness too. It would be unlocked either by having 50 nichelings with the peacock tail or by having 25 with the male peacock tail Links to other beak suggestions:
  5. I'd like to see some more beaks in the game that offer different stats to the one we've already got, so that winged nichelings can have more options. This beak would be based off of hook-billed parrots like macaws. It would have 1 smell, 2 collecting and 1 cracking and could be unlocked by having 50 nichelings with the cracker jaw Links to other beak suggestions:
  6. Different fur types has already been suggested here And this post suggests different mane types, which would include different lengths of cheek fur
  7. I like this idea, but i would be more interested in seeing something based off of a mammoth other than the woolly mammoth that could inhabit the savannah biome. We have a lot of animals in the snowy islands and not very many in the savannah. The strength could also be lowered a little, but other than that the stats aren't too op Also do people actually call them mammuts? I've never heard them be called that before
  8. I did consider that, but I wasn't sure if that would be a bit op. Just 1 strength could work though
  9. The howl snout would be based off of wolves. It would have the same smell stats as the purr snout, but instead of healing it would add 1 strong voice, 1 call to the wild (I think that's what its called) and 1 strength. The nicheling would be able to call without being on a tree stump or up a tree, which could be useful if there aren't any stumps around and your nicheling can't fly. It would be unlocked by killing 20 ramfoxes
  10. Deer and antelope also use their antlers/horns to attract mates, but none of the horns we already have in game add attractiveness. it wouldn't really make sense for this horn to add attractiveness and not the others TThe whole thing about cats purring helping to heaI is hypothetical and in my opinion sounds like nonsense. The purr snout takes off days of damage while a cats purr (if it really does help healing) would have quite a small impact, so I would definitely say the purr snouts healing ability is magical for me, 1 strength would be enough for the stats. It would be no more attractive to a nicheling than any other horns/antlers, and magical powers seems a bit silly. At least the purr snout is based on something, even if that something is questionable
  11. I agree that marmosets are cute, but it wouldnt really make sense for me personally if the genes main purpose is it's ability to call, seeing as howler monkeys have specialised vocal systems that allow them to make much louder vocalizations than other monkeys. It would also make sense if the call was to have higher chances of success than a nicheling with another head gene calling. That being said,I wouldn't be complaining if we did get a marmoset like face instead
  12. Nice idea, but theyre adding a bat head in the next update so I'm not sure if that'll maybe include something like this. A few of your suggestions have already been posted or have similar posts, you should probably have a look through what's already been suggested
  13. There's already a similar suggestion here
  14. I love this idea, but i think it should be longer and hairier so it looks a bit more like a howler monkey
  15. There are a few complaints about not being able to move on land, which I completely agree with. I also think having 2 genes that both add underwater breathing is unnecessary, and 4 defense is also a bit much so I was thinking that the legs and hindlegs could both lose their defense stats and gain 1 speed instead and the body could lose its underwater breathing (the gills look like theyre on the head but correct me if I'm wrong) and add 1 defense instead. That way a full hybrid would still have high defense and be able to breath underwater, plus it would be able to move a little on land Id be really curious to see how the stubby wee legs would be added, would they maybe need to be made the same sort of size as other legs? Theyd need to do something to make them fit onto nichelings, unless they were to just sort of float mid air I love this idea, upvoted
  16. Wolves do actually fish, but they use their mouth instead of their paws. I'm fairly sure sheep don't fish tho The normal claw seems to be based off of ambush preds like big cats who's paws are well designed for attacking prey and fishing. The wolf, being a pursuit pred, has paws adapted for speed rather than strength. I assume the claws are used for grip, like the studs on football boots, because they're useless when it comes to attack. Because wolves cant turn their paws like big cats can, the most they can do is bat at their preys hindlegs during a chase, which could do some damage, but doesn't really serve much purpose other than slowing the prey down a wee bit. Skill wise, a wolf's paw would basically function the same as the runner leg As I said above, a wolf's paw is useless for attack or fishing and would basically be the same as the runner leg I like the idea, but I don't think it should automatically kick the attacker. It makes sense for the spiky body to defend the nicheling whether it's out of turns or not; it takes no energy for spikes to defend a creature, because the spikes are always there. On the other hand, the nicheling would need energy to kick an attacker, and it wouldn't have any energy if all its turns have been used up. I would personally change this to strength, because it doesn't really make much sense to me to have it as an automatic sort of defense like the spiky body I would change the speed to an extra cold resistance. Balance doesn't affect speed. The wolf is fast and their tail does help them run without losing their balance, but if you were to take away the tail the wolf wouldn't be any slower. Likewise, if you were to stick a wolf's tail on a sloth, the sloth would still be as slow as it was before Ooft this is a pretty long comment I like this idea, upvoted
  17. I still didn't mention anything about horror movies. As you just said, I was talking about gore, which I can imagine would be a factor in many parents decisions to let their children play a game No, it's just you. You brought up humans, and I replied to your comment before going back onto the topic of this post. You then started to go into why the consumption of raw meat is dangerous for humans, and then complained when someone linked you to a video that was irrelevant to what you were talking about
  18. I saw the video, I haven't had a chance to watch it tho. Going by the title and a reply from @Lurkily I'm going to assume it's not too helpful for understanding how it's unsafe for us to eat raw meat, but I'll watch it later anyways, it looks interesting I don't remember mentioning anything about horror movies? However, I will say that the context and level of gore probably plays a bit part in a lot of parents decisions to give their child a game or not. Niche is an educational game about survival with simple, cartoony graphics and no depictions of gore, blood or anything else along those lines. Handing a 12 year old a game like niche would be very different from handing a 12 year old a horror game that contains realistic, gory graphics and involves cannibalizing humans You speaks the proper English sees I. Can i just point out that you're the one talking about something completely irrelevant here? Yes, the video probably doesn't have much info on how humans can't eat raw meat, but that isn't what the post is about. This is about wild animals and cannibalism, not a human's incapability to eat raw meat
  19. Yes and no. There isn't any direct option in the game to kill anything, but there is an attack option so that the amount of damage dealt with each blow can be adjusted to the strength of each individual nicheling. As I said, this option is available for all nichelings that aren't in your tribe, regardless of age. This also goes for any nichelings you kick out. The only reason some people would rather 'direct them into lethal situations' is that this lets you keep control of them, stopping them from stealing your food and, if theyre sick, wandering into the middle of your tribe and infecting everyone. You are already able to kill both babies and offspring of your own nichelings, so being able to kick out and/or kill your own nichelings while they are still babies really can't be all that much less 'kid-friendly' than being able to do so to them once they are a child
  20. Then in that case they should definitely at least hint at the home island immunity gene being useful
  21. While it doesn't explicitly state that you need to travel North to progress in story mode, it does hint at it. When you move past the first main island (the one you move to after Adam meets Eve) it will give you a tip that "many islands can be seen to the North" (or something along those lines). It will also give you this tip when you open up your save game for the next few times I haven't reached home island yet, so I don't know this for sure, but you might be able to breed the home island immunity back into your tribe once you get back to home island. If you move into a space beside a home island nicheling of the opposite gender and bread with them, you might hopefully get the immunity gene again. I agree that it could maybe mention that home island immunity is important though, it must be annoying to finally reach the home island and realise you need the immunity gene
  22. Raw meat from any animal is dangerous for humans to eat. I don't really know anything about this topic, but I'd assume this is compared to meats humans eat normally, like beef and pork. If I'm right, then of course human meat isn't going to be quite as safe to eat. The animals humans eat on a regular basis have been bred for a very long time specifically for our consumption, whereas humans obviously haven't While I can understand concerns about this being in a game played by children, it wouldn't quite be the same as giving them a game encouraging human cannibalism. I honestly can't see a game about animals, especially one that doesn't have any graphic details of gore or even blood, doing a 12 year old any psychological damage or whatever
  23. I'm pretty sure I remember you saying you arent a niche player (not really sure why you're here if that's the case but ok). In the game you are already able to banish and kill children in your tribe and you can kill wandering nichelings of any age, including babies. All this is suggesting is that you are also able to do so with baby nichelings in your own tribe, which I honestly don't see as being any worse than what you already have the option to do. Would this really make the game that much less kid-friendly?
  24. I don't see the problem with this either. I agree that all bearyena genes would need to show. I think that maybe instead they should have the ability to befriend adult bearyenas (regular ones only) which would mean that as well as being able to mate with the bearyena, the bearyena wouldn't cause any trouble for the tribe either
  25. Not gonna lie, I don't see why the tufted ears should add any attractiveness at all. They should definitely add to both genders though, seeing as there isn't a difference between male and female lynx's ear tufts irl @magpieI don't know, I've never heard about this. Do you know anything about how they do this?
