  1. Hello! Welcome to the forums! Good luck learning C#, sounds like it'll be well worth it for you.
  2. Hello! Welcome to the forums! There's always someone willing to give help here
  3. 1. Invite them. That's an extra set of paws I didn't have before, and considering they're going to be collecting food from the area anyway, I'd rather it go into my stockpile than disappear. Besides, if I get desperate enough, those unique immunity genes could be a lifesaver. 2. The bluebird can have them. If that doesn't work, they can take a long walk down the beach. And into the ocean. I can't afford sickness spreading. Fortunately I've only had to deal with this situation once. 3. Gang up on it and hope for the best. 4. Chances are, if they're really slow, they aren't my favourite. That being said, I typically only take a breeding pair plus maybe a few extras traveling anyway. 5. Invite the baby! The bearyena genes are super helpful for me, and friendly bearyenas are very helpful if an emergency breeding partner is needed. I also tend to breed random invited wanderers with the friendly bearyenas for a spare strong nicheling. I never have no purpose for a friendly bearyena.
  4. Keeping a few nichelings parked by berry bushes is a good way to keep food coming in. Also, you don't necessarily need cracker jaw and nimble fingers on the same nicheling; nimble fingers can crack and collect. If you have any nichelings with a strength stat of at least 2, they can take down rabbils and stagmoles with one hit. If these nichelings are close enough to a rabbil to be able to go to the same tile as it, they can jump right on top of the rabbil, which means it won't be able to to avoid your nicheling's attack. So you can chase down a rabbil, kill it, and collect the meat all in three movements. I'd recommend putting horns on everything as soon as you can so most of your nichelings will be able to grab any small prey that comes into range.
  5. Thank you! I think my next island might be another First Snow, so I'll definitely keep all that in mind! I'd definitely love to get big body at some stage just so I don't have to rely on groups of three.
  6. I tried my first medium island recently: First Snow! All was going well, until the balance bears showed up. They absolutely demolished my tribe, and when we killed one another replaced it. The only reason we survived was because I took a breeding pair to the easier island port, and now we're recuperating on a Tiny Green. It's a little disheartening to have gone from hovering around 300 food to under 100. I do have a few ideas on how to improve my next attempt at a cold island (mutating in medium tail until I unlock big body just for any extra cold resistance I can get being the main one), but I would definitely appreciate some advice, if anyone is willing to give it.
  7. Thanks, Lurkily! I used to play the Creatures series a lot, and I still play from time to time. But when I was really into it, I used to dabble with the genetics editors a lot, and I actually made a genetic breed for it! It's not Mendelian genetics, but I still love dipping into a new baby norn's genes to see what they got from their parents and what they mutated themselves. If that counts as artificial life and genetic algorithms, then yeah, I am definitely interested in that kind of stuff!
  8. Kirvanduk- God of Strength and Fertility Kirvanduk was the first nicheling with bearyena blood born in the tribe, and his birth marked a new era of powerful nichelings. His conception took quite a few tries, and he wasn't the most fertile nicheling himself, but that never stopped him from raising a family of his own. Meana- Goddess of Family and Healing Meana was the first nicheling in the tribe born with the purr snout, which made her an exceptional healer. She was also a very prolific breeder, having given birth to around ten children in her lifetime. Nuku- God of Beauty and Expression Nuku was the first nicheling I noticed who was born with the peacock tail, and the first thing I thought when I saw him was how beautiful he was! He may not have patterns like other nichelings, but his loud personality more than makes up for his quiet appearance. Tavanta- God of the Water The son of a wanderer and a bearyena, Tavanta quickly discovered that his webbed feet and bearyena claws made him a major threat to fish everywhere. He spent much of his time in a stream, filling the tribe's stockpile with fish. When a bearyena who wasn't as friendly as his father stopped by the shores, he proved himself dangerous to anything, provided he could stay in his stream. Vanrota and Kuku- Gods of Love and Loyalty Vanrota was a blind wandering child when he stumbled into the tribe's territory, and was quickly taken in. Kuku was born in the tribe, and stuck by Vanrota's side like glue as soon as he met him. The two led a peaceful existence together, harvesting berries and chasing down rabbils. They were truly inseparable. Anais- Goddess of Foraging and the Nest Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of Anais. Despite never having children herself, she always kept a watchful eye over the tribe's children, and kept them well fed with berries and acorns while she was at it. Rarasi- Goddess of Sacrifice and Vengeance Rarasi's story is not a happy one. The result of a rogue male mating with one of the tribe's females, she spent most of her time in the mountains, searching for prey with her fellow tribemates. One day, when another female had just given birth to twins fathered by a rogue, two balance bears crossed paths with the group. One of the bears slaughtered the new mother. Furious, and knowing she was the most capable fighter in the group, she jumped in front of the twins and tried her hardest to fight off the bears. She was still young, and so she managed to keep the bears occupied for several days until she succumbed to her wounds and the cold; more than enough time for the tribe to try to plan their next move, which ultimately turned out to be 'flee to the nearby grassland island because when we kill one bear, another takes its place'. Either way, it wouldn't have been possible without Rarasi's sacrifice.
  9. Thank you! I definitely am enjoying Niche, I always have loved genetics based games. And the forums seem really friendly, too!
  10. Hi! I'm fuzzysherbet, and I'm here for Niche. I've only had the game for a few days, but am definitely loving it! I first heard about the game from the Creatures Community, but only fully got into it once I saw some of JessiMew's videos.
