Have you tried FN F1? That's what I do to activate commands. (I have a Windows 10 Laptop)

Double claws/bearyena claws, ram horns or antlers, bird beak (if you want to dig) or spit snout for distasteful appearance. If you find digging trunk you can use that to replace beak. Keep tribe size very low. 3-7 nicheling is the range. Onle breed creatures when they start getting old so that you can keep the tribe low. This method has helped me survive for 207 days (so far) and i have slightly under 300 food.

I managed to do it in 297 in-game days but that time varies between people. I tend to not spend much time on an island unless i'm unlocking a gene (eg, spending 50 days on cold or hot islands)

I just kill the apes with my armored bodied, saber-fanged, double bearyena clawed, hammer tailed, megalocerous horned nichelings. I have been doing this for 427 in-game days...

So, I just got this rather peculiar masked creature with only one of the eyebrow patterns lol, I didn't even know this was an available pattern. It might be a glitch but idk (Sorry for horrendous quality)

The thing is, you can actually invite her in. You just need to wait for her to die and if another one spawns there's a chance they can be invited in. That's how I once got round ears before even reaching home island lol

I'd gladly invite in a blind nicheling with hemophilia and double no paw but I'd use them for exploring or gathering if they can collect and I'd only bring them in if I have a stable supply of food. Additionally, I would restrict them from breeding. If they only have one of the bad genes (eg, just double no paw) then I would not restrict them from breeding: mutation menues exist after all. My perfect nichelings are healthy, (I can make allowances for inactive short-sightedness or inactive blindness) with big ears for hearing and big nose for smelling since I dislike restrictions on senses. I dislike poison fangs -even though they look attractive- and I would much rather have toxic body to gather poison berries. I don't mind having weak nichelings, though it does come in handy having at least two strength so I have defense against bearyenas. If I have armored body unlocked, I will use that as an alternative to having high strength. Although a lot of genes are beneficial, I don't really care and if I haven't got my desired genes I'll happily take what I can get.

I don't really think a feature similar to wings should be included in the body category, but paws instead. This is because there could be some pretty... strange combinations of ordinary bird wings as the paws and butterfly bodies for the body.
