She paused at the mention of the bird, flicking her tail. "We don't eat those. Mother would be displeased." She hissed, walking out of the den to who knows where. Jubileze nodded, trying to smile-though it looked anything but genuine.
-
A small nicheling walked into the den, accidently bumping into Lanasi. "Oops, sorry!" He apologized, before turning his gaze to Kalile. He hesitantly walked up to her, and she didn't even seem to acknowledge him until he prodded her with one paw. She looked down, narrowing her eyes a little at him. "Yes, Thettlethorn? I'm a bit busy." "I...I'm hungry, really, really hungry-" "Then go get some food." The child seemed to start getting desperate, and it was easy to see his ribs sticking through his fur. "But I c-can't hunt, and everytime I ask someone for food they just tell me to go ask you..." Kalile barely even payed him any mind, just flicked her tail. "Go find some berries or something." "Mom, please! Just something, anything! I'm starving-" Seeming to be thoroughly annoyed by the child, Kalile stood up, shoving him out of the den. She turned to Lanasi, sighing. "Don't mind him. He likes getting on my nerves." "Alright." He gently nudged Jubileze to lay down in a nest, sitting down next to her. He looked up at Issi, flicking an ear. "You can wait outside-people tend to walk in uninvited a lot, and it's really distracting to have people watching you. Just make sure nobody else comes in."
-
Kalile just nodded, seemingly thinking about something. The nicheling in front of her nudged her, and she snapped out of it, going right back to talking to him. The nicheling jolted awake, fur bristling. He relaxed when he saw the two. "Um, hi-sorry, I've been very tired lately." He stood up, stretching briefly before walking up to the two. "What do you need?"
-
"Hm?" She looked up, before smiling at Lanasi. "Oh, you can just sleep in here. Nobody really comes in here anymore, we're the only one left who sleep here. The others...moved on."
-
"He was here a while ago, I don't think he's in the tree though, Jest. He...didn't even follow us." Kalile sat to the side of the den, talking to some other nicheling. The den was mostly empty, but it was quite bright with all the jungle flowers. He pushed into the small den, gesturing to a nicheling sleeping by a pool of water in the middle. "There he is-sorry if he gets a little mad, he's been busy lately." Before he left, he turned back for a moment. "If you see mo-I mean, Kalile-can you tell her I was looking for her? She...hasn't been around all day, I'm starving..." He mumbled the last part, before slipping away.
-
"Sure, I haven't hunted in a while. It'll probably be nice to brush up on my skills-I'm getting rusty." She chuckled, quickly stretching before walking into the jungle. "I'll be back soon!" The nicheling nodded, standing up and walking towards a small den towards the back of the camp. "This way-I'm Thettlethorn, by the way." Juniper was at a loss-what was she supposed to say? She was never that great at comforting people, and she doubted that she would be any help when she was on edge herself...
-
"I'm close." Jubileze jolted, whipping around to look at the source of the noise. A small nicheling sat just a few feet away, blinking up at the two. His ears were scarred and torn, and it was difficult to even see them flicking. "You were looking for the healer, right?" "We'll probably have to stay here for at least a night, maybe eat something...I'm starving." She followed his gaze, narrowing her eyes at the hole in the tree. "What's wrong with the hole? It's a bit spooky, but...I don't think there's anything in it? Hopefully?"
-
"Let's not think about apes of all things right now-maybe we should try and meet some other nichelings? This tribe is pretty big, it might be useful to know some others." "Yeah..." She mumbled, looking down at her paws. "Anyway, who should we ask about the healer? We obviously have no idea where it is...maybe we can find that Kalile girl again..." "Jest? Are you okay?" Juniper asked, seeming concerned for him. She couldn't understand why he was so nervous.
-
"They probably killed it-but I have no idea why they would just leave their prey tacked up on a tree..." She shook her head. "This tribe is weird, especially that one girl." Bubbli was still staring at the tree, only glancing away for moment to face Issi. "We'll be fine, mom."
-
Snowdove followed, cringing a bit at the previous exchange. "That was weird-did you see those skulls? They were hung up the same way that bird was..." "Mhm..." Jubileze stared at the ground, swiping a leave around with her paw. She didn't...look too great. "Hey, Issi? Do you think they have a healer here? I...don't feel that well."
-
She blinked. "Probably? I'm starting to feel uneasy like this..." The strange nicheling walked forward, sitting down heavily in front of the group. "I'm Hajanku. You won't need to stay long, I already have things figured out." They paused, staring directly at Jubileze. They slowly walked towards her, ear flicking. "You won't be at peace for long." They mumbled, before backing away, eyes still locked on the paralyzed nicheling. "You can all go."
-
Snowdove shoved her way into the den, looking around the slightly cramped space. Stones and the bones of prey lined the walls, several small skulls tacked up by sharp sticks or rocks. A nicheling sat in the middle, their head slowly-unnaturally, even-turning to look at the group. What seemed to be the skull of a bearyena sat upon their head, and they blinked. "I take it you're new?"
-
Snowdove narrowed her eyes at Lanasi, before whipping around walking towards the place where Kalile had said they should go. Something seemed to be bothering her.
-
The two nodded, though Hennasire seemed scared out of her mind. Bubbli still seemed to be a bit enraptured by the trees. "I...think I may have been here before..." She mumbled.
-
"Feel free to go wherever! Though I suggest that you start over there." Kalile gestured to some sort of den in between two trees, made out of the roots from both. "Hajanku will...see if you fit in." And with that, she left, ducking into another den.
-
Kalile lead through the jungle, weaving around several large trees and even jumped over a carnivorous plant as it tried to eat her. This girl was weird. "Here we are!" She jumped forward, smiling back at the group. Ahead was a large clearing, filled to the brim with nichelings. A absolutely gigantic jungle tree-probably the biggest one on the island-stood in the center, the middle of the trunk bearing a hole that looked like it was very forcefully made.
-
She nodded, carefully stepping forward. "I would rather not sit here and wait for an ape to come and eat us..."
-
"Great!" Kalile giggled, letting out what sounded like a purr. She hopped over a root poking from the ground, leading the way deeper into the jungle. "Just watch your step! The rivers seem to be popping up more often lately!"
-
Snowdove sighed, but didn't say anything. She had a feeling it would be safer in a tribe than out in the open. Juniper looked to him, seeming slightly uncomfortable. "This doesn't feel right...." She whispered.
-
Kalile glanced to Lanasi, before backing away from Snowdove and turning to Issi with that same damn smirk. "I don't think that will be necessary-you seem quite lost. I'm assuming you're new here. Say, why don't I bring you all back to my tribe?"
-
The female chuckled, her smirk not dropping for a second. "Well, that's a bit needlessly aggressive, don't you think? I'm Kalile, I live in a tribe just over there." She flicked her fluffy tail somewhere to the left. "I heard screaming and came to see what was up-and I am not disappointed, I can say that. You sure are..." She gracefully leapt forward, every step more like a skip. She stopped in front of Snowdove, lifting a paw up to rest it under the much larger nicheling's chin. "An interesting bunch." She finished, chuckling as Snowdove cringed backwards.
-
"Well, that was quite a show. Fortunate you acted quickly." A strange nicheling slunk out of the thick jungle foliage, a sly smirk on her face as she scanned the group. She had soft, curly silver fur and bright blue eyes. Her pelt was covered in white stripes, and a pair of antlers the same shade as the stripes sat atop her head.

Caution let out a snarl, knowing that trying to stop all of them would be useless. He sat back, glaring at everyone intensely. It wasn't long before Hazard popped out, gasping for air as she fell to the ground at Issi's feet. She coughed up...something-actually, maybe they didn't want to know.
-
Finally deciding to do something, Jubileze ran forward, slamming to her tail into the plant repeatedly. She payed no mind to Caution trying to pull her back-just kept swinging. "Is anyone going to help me?!" She yelled, very much annoyed that nobody was doing anything.
