Fate has been cruel and order unkind

How can I have left things this way?

    The blame was my own

    The punishment your's

The night will be silent again...

    But into the stillness

    I'll bring you a song

And I will your company keep

    To your tired eyes

    And my lullabies

Have carried you softly to sleep...

Once did a nicheling with eyes like the sun

Look out on her tribemates and sigh

    She smiled and she said:

"Surely there is no nicheling, as lovely and suited to lead them as I!"

    A great thirst for reign

    A great thirst for glory

That long was the shadow she cast

Which fell dark upon the young brother she loved

And grew only darker as days and nights passed...

"Lullay moon prince, goodnight brother mine..."

    Rest now in moonlight's embrace

Bear up my lullaby, winds of the earth

    Through cloud

    And through sky

    And through space

Carry the peace and the coolness of night

And carry my sorrow in kind

"Brother, you're loved so much more than you know..."

"Forgive me for being so blind..."

Soon did that nicheling take notice that others

Did not give her brother his due

And neither had she loved him as he deserved

She watched as her brother's unhappiness grew...

But such is the way of the limelight, it sweetly-

Takes hold of the mind of it's host

And that foolish nicheling did nothing to stop

The destruction of one who had needed her most

Lullay moon prince, goodnight brother mine

    Rest now in moonlight's embrace

Bear up my lullaby, winds of the earth

    Through cloud

    And through sky

    And through space

Carry the peace and the coolness of night

And carry my sorrow in kind

Brother, you're loved so much more than you know

May troubles be far from your mind

And forgive me for being so blind.....

  3. "Fishing sucks..."

Termite leaned down, trying and failing to snag another fish with his claws.

He groaned as the small fish darted away, his claws instead cutting some kelp.

"What's the point of having claws if they aren't good for anything?"

    "You can defend yourself."

Looking up, Termite saw a young male across the river, blinking at him.

    "You're Birch's son, right?"

    "Yep! I'm Moth!"

Termite narrowed his eyes. "Is he around here?"

Moth shook his head, waving his paw through some water. "He's hunting, I took the chance to come down here."

"Oh! If you're having trouble fishing, I know a good spot!"

    "Go on..."

"It's packed with fish! And its small too, so they wont be hard to catch!"

"Hm..." Termite pondered this, wondering if he should trust anyone related to Birch.

    "Alright. Take me there."

Moth grinned widely, gesturing behind him. "Its this way!"

Termite hesitated, before crouching down and leaping across the gap. Just as he felt his claws snag the dirt, his hind paws fell away from him, and he landed heavily in the river.

Panicking, he tried to push himself back up, but felt something pull him down. Looking, he saw that some sort of reeds were wrapped around his leg, tugging him down.

"Hold on!" He faintly heard Moth's voice above the water, but he wasnt paying attention, all too aware of the air leaving him as he desperately tried to surafce again.

Try as might, Moth couldn't pull the older nicheling back up.

It wasnt long before Termite fell still, the current gently tugging his body to the left.

"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!" Hearing the screech of horror, Moth looked up, seeing Raincloud staring at her brother's body.

    "I-I didn't-"

He couldn't form words. He had tried to save Termite, but he couldn't...

    It was an accident...right?

  4. Pesket stretched, yawning from where he lay in the grass.

    "Well, hello."

Startled, he looked up, fur bristling as Birch stared at down at him with a grin.

    "You're Pesket, correct?"

He nodded, narrowing his eyes. "Yeah. What's it to you?" He said boldly.

    Birch merely chuckled at him.

"You're mother was Cedar, if I remember right?"

He froze, eyes widening and his tail lashing through the grass. "Y-yeah."

"So, you're the son of the traitor who defied my leadership? Good. I've been looking for you."

Before he could ask what that meant, the tribe leader let out his claws, crouching down and leaping.

Pesket closed his eyes, expecting to feel the blow any minute.

    It never came.

Hesitantly opening his eyes, he forced down a strangled cry at the sight before him.

Another nicheling hung limply from Birch's jaws, the venom dripping down their fur from the wound, and their eyes blown wide in their last seconds.

    "S-Shell?..."

  5. "Comfortable enough?"

Termite looked up, smiling at Twig from his nest.

    "Yeah, thanks."

Twig smiled, sitting down a few feet away.

    "Good. So, why were you-"

    "WE'RE BACK!"

Twig froze, groaning as he turned his head. His brothers came running to him, Thistle trailing behind.

Tumbleweed lunged at him, wrestling him to the ground playfully.

"Nice to see you too, brother." Twig deadpanned from under him, glaring.

"Don't be like that!" Robin came trotting up, glancing behind him to make sure Thistle was still following.

"Yeah!-" Tumbleweed cut off, finally noticing Termite. He smirked.

"Oh look, Twig finally got himself a boyfriend! About ti-" Twig kicked him in the stomach, rolling away as his brother wheezed.

    "Shut your mouth."

  6. The rain dropped into the river, spraying on Shell's fur as he sat down.

"Are we fishing?" Pesket asked nonchalantly, peering into the water.

    "No."

"Well, then why are we here? It's cold-and wet."

    Shell sighed.

    "Just sit down."

Pesket rolled his eyes, sitting down in front of the older male.

    "What?"

"I wont be here forever, Pesket. I want you to learn how to survive."

Pesket scoffed. "I already now how to survive, Shell. I can take care of myself."

"No, you can't. Running headfirst into danger isn't how to survive-"

"So, Im just supposed to run away, like a coward?!"

There was silence as the two stared at eachother, Pesket glaring and Shell looking exasperated.

"As your father, I just want you to be safe-"

    "I'M NOT YOUR SON!"

Pesket snapped, batting Shell in the face with his paw, knocking him over due to the force.

Without looing back at the shocked male, Pesket turned away, walking back home through the rain.

  7. Termite looked across the river, where most of the tribe was.

    Why wasnt he there?

Curiously, he stepped into the water, checking to make sure Raincloud wasnt watching.

Then, he jumped in, swimming his way over to the other side.

But suddenly, it felt as if something was tugging him down, and the current started pushing him away.

    "What-"

Before he could finish his thoughts, his head was underwater, and he was flailing around, trying to get air.

He felt something grasp his scruff, and before he knew it, he was coughing up water.

    "Are you okay?!"

He opened his eyes blearily, looking up at whoever said that.

    His eyes widened in surprise.

A male about his age was standing above him, shaking from the combined cold of the river and the rain. His eyes were filled with concern.

Termite blinked, only staring at this nicheling, and not realizing that he was speaking.

    "Hello?"

Termite startled, shaking his head. "Yeah, I-im okay..."

  8. Algae was sat near her nest, keeping an eye on her sons as they played.

Then, her fur bristled, as she heard a voice behind her.

    "Well, hello Algae."

She slowly turned around, trying to stifle her fear as Birch smirked at her.

    "H-hi, Birch..."

The male purred, and she swore she saw a sadistic gleam in his eyes.

    "Why so nervous?"

Was he really asking her that?

    "Anyhow, I have a proposition."

Algae nodded, her heart racing. She silently wished that Rust would come to her.

The new leader sat at her side, casually curling his tail around her.

    "I'll need children, you know."

He didnt even need to say anymore for her to catch on.

"HELL NO!" She screeched, scratching him across the eye as she scrambled away.

He growled, wiping the blood from his face.

"Oh, I dont think you understand." He took a step towards her.

"You dont have a choice, love."

Before any more words could be spoke, a blur of red-brown fur was in Algae's vision, snarling viciously at Birch.

"Back off if you dont want your horns ripped from your skull!" Rust spat, standing protectively in front of his mate.

Birch blinked in surprise, before letting out a genuine, confusing laugh.

"Oh, thats cute." He said simply, before charging forward.

Before anyone even realized, Birch landed a swift bite to Rust's neck, biting down hard as Rust flailed and tried to kick him away.

Then, he fell limp, foam dripping from his jaws due to the venom.

Birch dropped him, staring at the body, before grinning at Algae.
