  1. During the stormy night, Torrent and Milata spoke.

"You dont think it was me, right?"

Torrent dropped the nut she was trying to chew open, turning to her mate in surprise.

    "What? Of course not!"

Milata let out a sigh of relief, looing at her paws.

    "Good, good."

    "Did something happen?"

Milata looked at her mate, who's eyes were filled with concern.

"After the meeting, Storm blamed me for it."

Torrent scoffed, kneading her claws into the ground.

    "I can go kill him?"

    Milata chuckled, shaking her head.

"Its not a big deal! Im just glad that Treasure is gone."

  2. Later that day, as the sun set, Grasshopper called a meeting.

"Murder is not tolerated in this tribe!"

The crowd of nichelings listened intently, some snarling at the though that someone could ever murder Treasure.

    "Whoever it was, speak now!"

    Silence.

"How do we know that it wasnt a bearyena?"

Storm called from the crowd, some nichelings parting away so Grasshopper could see him.

"We found no scent of one, and the bite on his neck was too clean to be a predator."

    Then, Treebark stepped forward.

"Treasure had toxic body, so whoever bit him would have died, right? In that case, whoever killed him must be immune to poison."

    He glanced in Lilypad's direction.

    "They must have poison fangs."

  3. While patrolling the edges of the territory, the unexpected is found.

Popperknot pushed through the grass, following after Grasshopper as Torrent and Isila trailed behind.

    Suddenly, Grasshopper stopped.

    "Something smells off..."

Popperknot sniffed the air, not recognizing anything strange.

He stepped towards the lake to his left, squinting his eyes as he spotted something in the depths.

    Something rotting away.

    Something with golden fur.

Something that always got what it wanted.

    "Treasure?"

  4. Lilypad shivered, hurrying over to the tree so she could take shelter from the freezing rain, grasping rabbil meat in her  jaws.

    "Stop right there."

She froze at the hiss, watching as Treebark slunk around a berry bush.

    "We need to talk."

His words were simple, but they turned her insides to ice.

    He sounded angry.

    "You killed my daughter."

Lilypad froze even more, eyes blowing wide. What?

    "No-"

"DONT LIE TO ME, YOU DROWNED HER!"

Treebark spat, hissing out curses as he kept screaming at her.

Then he crouched, before leaping at her, claws extended.

    The blow never came.

Lilypad opened her eyes, just in time to see Whistle kick away the furious nicheling with his hindpaws.

The black nicheling stood in front of her, letting out a deep, menacing growl.

    "Leave her alone."

  5. With a scream, Rain slipped off the stone, crashing into the water below.

"RAIN!" Checker screamed, running forward to help her.

    Without thinking, Lilypad dove in.

The water was cold, and her lean body didnt help, but the only thing on her mind was saving Rain.

    The water was deep.

    Her legs werent strong enough.

    She couldnt breathe.

    Suddenly she was breathing again.

Coughing up a lake, Lilypad opened her eyes slowly.

Milata had pulled her back up.

Rain was nowhere to be seen.

"What happened?!" Treebark questioned, Checker at his side as she frantically searched the water with her gaze.

Lilypad's eyes landed on a certain nicheling.

One who always got what he wanted.

One with fur bright as the sun.

    "Rain drowned."

  6. Wishing to say goodbye to their families, Anare and Rain join the others at the ports.

    "Stay safe, please?"

Anare looked into her son's eyes, her paws resting on his shoulders.

"I will." Popperknot promised, hugging his mother close.

    "Your father would be proud."

    Rain took a different approach.

    "Mom! Dad!"

Checker and Treebark looked up from where they were speaking, only to see Rain on one of the stepping stones.

"I went ahead and checked to see if they were stable enough! Its all good!"

"Thanks honey, but can you get down? You could slip." Checker said worriedly.

    Lilypad saw something though.

    She saw it too late.
