  1. This would make sense I think. I know I tend to associate the toxic body specifically with poison dart, and I'm pretty sure they tend to live in the rainforest in real life so I always found toxic nichelings not handling the climate well there to be a bit strange.
  2. "Too fluffy"? WHat is this utter madness you speak of. There is no such thing as too fluffy! But in all seriousness I do like this idea. And it would let me make a nicheling version of my bob-tailed kitty which is always a bonus in my book.
  3. Gems hold a very significant role for nichelings, both physically and in the species' general culture for several reasons. 1. They are considered the primary container/anchors of the individuals' soul/memories/experiences etc. Hence gaining more gems as they progress through life. In the event that a nicheling manages to live an exceptionally long life they have been said to grow a fourth gem. This isn't something that happens often and is usually a precursor to them ascending into a deity or other supernatural entity. 2. On a related note, deities and the like have five or more gems that aren't actually connected to their bodies except for when they are disguising themselves as mortals. Instead they just sort of orbit free-floating around their neck/chest area. 3. They are considered the deities gift to nicheling kind and are w.hat allows them to have the ability to adapt and prosper to nearly every environment. This includes random sudden genetic mutations. 4. On a darker note various murderers, tyrants etc. have been known to collect the gems of their victims, or even wear them. There are a few different reasons why a nicheling would do this (As a show of power, to terrify and demoralize enemies, to serve as a twisted reminder of their victories, etc ). This is of course considered a very, very taboo practice in most nicheling societies at least as of the time period where most of my imagined characters/tribes are alive. 5. According to some tales there is also a way to do this that imprisons the spirits of the deceased, binding them to the will of the thief where they are used as a power/energy source or a forced supernatural servant. This is viewed as a particularly monstrous and unforgivable thing to even attempt, said to be practiced by several of the most infamous villains and monsters of history and folklore 6. All that being said it, isn't unheard of for say, founders, leaders, hero's, and the like to willingly give one or more gems to their tribe, where they are viewed as sacred by the future members. Having the gem of an ancestor around (so long as it was willingly gifted) is believed to help anchor their spirit so they can more easily watch over and guide those that come after them. These individuals are known as Guardian Spirits. Wow that turned out longer than I expected, oops.
  4. Ooh, that's dark but it makes sense. Especially if other sources of food aren't as plentiful in the area. Or to eliminate potential future competitors. AS scary as it must be to see a bluebird in the sky, seeing a nicheling with wings that could potentially attack even older creatures would be even scarier if you don't know their motives.
  5. Idea #3- I have my own names for a couple of the the creatures and plants and plants in the niche world, though the names the players use are also known and used by nichelings. For example, bluebirds are called both bluebirds and "avezures" and creatures understand that they mean the same thing most of the time. Bluebirds- Avezures (Basically just combining two words that mean blue with the class name for bird) Water-breathing plant- Sea Lung (Self explanatory I guess) Idea #4- Calling someone a "dodomingo" can either be a friendly term of endearment (like calling someone silly or goofy) or an insult (Implying that the individual is noisy, annoying, a busybody, etc.) depending on the area you are in and how the local nichelings view the birds. Idea #5- Dodomingo feathers are often collected and used to make various trinkets and accessories, including being dyed different colors with various natural paints made from various materials like berries, blood, clay, soot, crushed bones or shells etc. Idea #6- Bluebird feathers, by comparison are treated as a lot more "special" by a large number of nicheling cultures. It isn't uncommon among tribes for bluebird feathers to be considered taboo to wear for your average creature, with only leaders, healers, prophets, heroes, and those considered specifically touched by deities being allowed this honor, Even among tribes that are less strict about this, decorating yourself with bluebird feathers tends to be viewed as a little distasteful at best and blatantly egotistical at worst. Like shouting out "Look how IMPORTANT and SPECIAL and VALUABLE I am!" right in everyone's faces. Not in the regular healthy sense of self-respect kind of way, so much as the overly inflated sense of self-importance way, if that makes sense.
  6. Here's my version of Adam and Eve as well as their first two children, Nunu and Lala. The decision has just been made to move the family from the tiny island where the couple first met to a place with more room for the family to grow.... Much to the excitement of their adventurous teenage children. (As a side note, this is my first time trying to upload my art to any sort of website, ever. I'm crossing my fingers that it actually works right but it may end up taking a few tries. Wish me luck!) edit: And that already doesn't look right I'm going to have to figure something else out I guess.
  7. Hello there everyone! I'm making this as a place to store my various niche worldbuilding/cultural/lore ideas. Feel free to share your own as well or tell me your thoughts. I have had a lot of ideas bouncing around my head for a while so hopefully I can produce something coherent. I'm not positive about the best way to format this so I guess I'll just be playing it by ear for the time being. Hope you enjoy. Idea #1- "Doubled" names (Lala, Nunu, Dukduk, etc.) are considered lucky in many places, particularly with tribes that recognize and celebrate the story of Adam. This is because my version of him and Eve (who both ascended to deities after passing away) had 10 cubs who were all named in this style, so naming a baby like this is seen as specifically reaching out to them to watch after and provide protection and guidance to the individual throughout their lifetime. Idea #2- Related to #1, there is a belief among some particularly superstitious groups that the bluebirds are particularly drawn towards these children throughout their lives, so it is a bit of a double edged sword in that way. More TBA as I actually copy them down.
  8. I'm Silvercinder! I love Niche despite the fact that I don't have a suitable device to play it on. I tend to get pretty nervous when interacting with people, even online, but I'd like to be a part of this community potentially have people to talk to about my niche related thoughts and ideas. Thanks for reading and I hope you all have a good day.
