I agree with your idea, maybe someone could place 2 blocks behind a chest to make a wall so that things can't get stolen if they have to leave them behind for a while. I'm ok with people stealing from me if it's plot or my stacks of cobblestone or the same color carpets that llamas are already wearing. You could also harvest the glow berries but then place torches or mobs will spawn.
