Strange, but some things don't change
Realising that she would be pregnant for some time before being able to have her first child, a nervous Kappa turned toward a familiar comfort: the water.
Kappa heads to the water nearby her nest. She doesn't like the water's temperature, but figures she'll get used to it eventually. At least contributing to the tribe's food supply gives her something to do.
Swan digs up more worms from the sediment, gladly swimming around in the icey water. Why the cold doesn't seem to bother her I honestly don't know, since water-body isn't particulairly helpful in the cold, but don't question it it's story. On land she would probably get cold easily, especially if snowing, however. Anyways, Rufus finally gets in the ice-cold water himself, dispite not liking water or the cold.
It is quite the romantic scene as the two munch on worms and talk about their future. Then they mate.
Continuing on, Eli, Raella, Garnet, and Roaraara have created a sort of exploring group. They're exploring the edge of the grass where it meets the stone, hoping to find something useful. They find some clover which Raella tries to munch on, only to find it is completely gross and not at all nutritious, much like grass. Thus it appears useless. Eli wants to explore further into the stone because it fascinates her, but Moaraara and her mate Garnet convince her to come help them explore the grasses since it seems apparent they will be of more use. Plus they should all stick together in case of a bearyena attack (pretty sure there are none of those here, but the group doesn't know that).
Then they smell something...dangerous? Garnet remembers hearing a story about these things once before his parents died. He remembers they're dangerous if you crack them open. But Moaraara smells a scent like the familiar food of insects inside, and though he knows those are dangerous too, he knows how to make a meal out of them without too much trouble. He makes a mental note to call Rufus up there as soon as possible.
Kuku convinces Quinn Jr. to come out into the stone to search for roots. He himself smells a rabbil, and then it is off to the races! Away he goes, hunting that rabbil.
Chie goes to help him, remembering her family's prowess as hunters. Perhaps his grey coat and demeaner also remind her of Yukiko. But chasing down the rabbil they find something else, it is perculiair and new, and the heat coming from it seems attractive given the temperature is much lower than they're used to. But they're on a mission to hunt down the rabbil, they'll be back to check this out more later.
Moaraara and Garnet prepare to crack open the strange insect-burrow.
And that is the end of my turn! I don't remember whether I used Eli's last move or not, may have had her go get Rufus to eat the termites. So keep that in mind if she is moved further to the south than she is in the last screenshots. I hope all of this will help @Mothpool (or whoever goes next) on their turn in some way, shape or form.

Arrival at the new island
We have arrived at our new home. Everyone made it, (these ports were easy to make sure everyone was on them with their grey coloring). At first, only the cold temperature seems unfamiliar as the nichelings gaze at the shore. Just a beach and green grass.
Eli takes the first step onto the island. She finds a berry bush, essential, but not that exciting. She has a drive to explore more.
Kuku is second off. He notes the berry bush as important.
Unsure what will come next, him and Kappa breed and prepare for a child. Kappa is overly-eager and builds a nest right away. Eli continues to explore, but smells nothing other than the berry bush, and doesn't hear anything exciting either.
Swan dives into the icy water, digging up worms from the bottom. She digs up two patches of them, quite proud of herself.
Moaraara sets off to explore this place. He knows it is essential for the tribe to know what food sources and danger lie inland. What he sees, however, is shocking. Plain stone with no grass on it lies just beyond the tribe's current domain. He notes this with unease. Could berries even grow in stone? How do you hide from predators and gather nesting material with no grass?
As Moaraara continues to explore, Rufus turns to the responsible and dilligent task of berry-picking. Raella follows her adoptive dad into the bleak stone area.
Chie is unnerved by the stone, but also curious as to what lies beyond it. So she ventures out.

huh this is odd. Glad you found an old character, @Sky. Wish I could find Chiyanna but don't think I ever posted her on the forums...or did I?

Arctic watched as everyone began to sleep, Onion wandering a bit away to catch some hares to eat. They had been captured by the Organization- or whatever this group was called- and couldn't exactly escape.
But it was now or never.
With a burst of speed, they sprinted off into an unknown direction, unsure where they were going but certain they wouldn't be held captive.
(lost a screenshot, Arctic is getting chased by Onion and Lichen)
Someone called behind them:
"After them!"
.
Eventually, a group of 2 nichelings arrived at the new camp.
"Who are you?" Questioned Fox Heart.
"We're just travelers." A pomegranate-colored male said with a hint of nervousness. "We need a tribe to join."
"From where?" Fire Ruby watched them suspiciously, particularly the female.
The female spoke this time. "The jungle. Our tribe was scattered by apes. We came here in hopes of colder weather so we wouldn't be so hot constantly." She laughed a bit in a sad manner. "We got what we wished for, it seems."
"What are your names?" Fire Ruby was oddly pushy on the personal questions.
"I'm Pomegranate. And this is Dragonfruit, my mate."
"We'll ask Onion about this."
Something clicked in Dragonfruit's head, and her eyes darkened. "Of course. Is he your leader?"
"Yes." Fox Heart was looking at Fire Ruby, who shook herself off and tore her gaze off Dragonfruit. "You can stay here for now."
.
I foresee this will go disastrously.. It looks like I've let a cat inside a chicken coop.
Fox would be better suited, or dog. Cats are interested in chickens, but then they just get pecked a whole ton on the head and decide to never go after them again, usually anyways! We found a cat in a chicken coop once, they were fine but terrified of chickens the rest of their life, didn't dare try to eat them (though they do try and get chicks sometime, it would be easier to do that when they're out to roam). Still, an interesting new expression and good story as always!

Also btw, Fish female is highly jealous of Operi and angry at Whale for breeding with her too. Story-wise Whale and the land-dweller (Anarame?) lived on the same island and were friends. Then Whale found Fish at the bottom of the ocean and they fell in love. They had the expectation of being mates in their new land, but then they met Operi. Whale doesn't think of Anarame that way, but with no other males and Operi wanting kids of her own he decided to mate with both females. Fish thus feels betrayed, and her and Operi had a power competition of who could have the most children in the shortest amount of time. More screenshots coming soon.

I needed to know some things since I was planning on making a frog challege, and I couldn't access the forums due to no internet, so I decided to do some experiments! The experiments were mainly to do with whether babies take drowning damage in water, and if so whether that would kill them automatically (like predators do) and/or whether they could not take damage if their snout-type was changed to gills using commands.
This was my first attempt:
Basically, I ran out of nesting material pretty quick. And then also out of food. And I couldn't find any wanderers either! Only one rogue which I was actually thankful for. So the default sandbox settings weren't very helpful (duh, they aren't made for experiments...).
I tried again with my own sandbox settings specially designed for such experiments:
My starters. I meant to have two breeding pairs, but when I copied Anarame's genes to create Operi's so I didn't have to re-select forbidden genes, I forgot to change the gender. I could've used the changegender command, but I decided not to.
They fan out, looking for food and exploring. I forget what I'm doing for a bit here, distracted by story and normal niche things.
Our first fish baby is born! To a female whose last name is Fish.
Operi breeds with our male Whale as well, since we have not found any wanderers.
Oh no, a bearyena disrupting our experiments? What ever shall we do?
The genes of Lenrare, Operi's first child. I probably was taking this to show she was in danger. Also I have two of these for some reason.
Thanks to the magic of niche commands, the bearyena is vanquished without anyone even lifting a paw to fight it!

I checked her family tree screenshot and Kali does have recessive hemophilia and dominant lean body so she wasn't as fit for the frost lands. She was probably left for that reason and it would be cool if someone played the old island to see her story and the story of all the other left-behind nichelings unfold

The Final Moments On Our Old Island
Kuku leaped forward with bravery being the strongest nicheling, indeed the only nicheling with moves left. He did this to protect his soon-to-be mate Kappa and to prevent the weaker Rufus from getting hurt. The result:
The bearyena hit him hard overnight, but the next morning he finished it off in three swipes of his mighty claw. I was upset with myself at this strategic blunder that would limit his usefullness and lifespan on the next island. I seriously comtemplated leaving him behind, bringing instead Bear or Kali who had taken next to no damage; but his genes were too good, and besides, Kappa would be heartbroken. He would have to find a healing plant on the next island, or else he would have far less time than his counterparts.
Donta'pri is blissfully unaware of Kuku's plight. In fact, other than his elder sister mysteriously dissapearing, he has no awareness of any nichelings preparing to leave the island. He tries his hand at bunny hunting, furious at the little creatures stealing his berries, which his bparents then blame him for! He runs out of moves before being able to do more than chase the bunny down, however.
I kick myself again as I realize I could have left this turn if I had let someone else finish the bearyena off. This last minute surprise has cost Kuku half his lifespan, and me time.
Quinn Jr. is the one I choose to bring out of him, Kali, and Bear. I forget why, exactly. I should've probably brought Kali, but maybe I'll be reminded looking at his family tree...
His genes are pretty good actually, recessive megalocerous horns, big nose, and heat body. Plus he has digger paw. His immunities may have also played a role. For some reason I thought he was the only child of Quinn going, but Rufus is a child of him and Than-guann as well. (He's not named yet in this picture). Anyways, I can't know without comparing him and Kali's genes, (though I miss her already
) so let's continue.
AH her name is Lenlen, (how could I forget?). She is seen here performing her last hunt before we leave the island. I forget if she was successful or not.
I skip the day, and see a bearyena spawn over by this family. With their combined strength being low, I doubt they will be able to defeat him. I decide to leave this island with their fate unknown, because I fear it will be a bad one. Also I decide not to gather all the possible food from the island out of respect for those left behind since we're already bringing with us 583 food which they will now not be able to eat. ALso I'm just impatient tbh.
I did save the island before I left if anyone is interested in continuing to play it (you'd have to delete those on the ports on your own, didn't have time to do that).
Eli, who first discovered the port and has always been fascinated by it and the call of adventure (plus the bones, she likes death....), leads the way onto the stepping stones. The group of little explorers prepare themselves for what is to come. And then the traveling begins.

Oh whatever, don't have time for those anyways. I'm going to skip them if you all don't mind.
Fishy baby Raella is an orphan with her father having died of a bearyena and her mother of old age and prior damage RIP Pridukkir and Memella. You guys gave me the green light so I used commands to move her next to Moaroara whenever he moved to simulate carrying.
Yukiko picks some berries before heading towards a nest....I think that's what this was trying to show anyways
Ah, love and fruit-picking continue. ALso think they're tryna catch a razorana
Rufus collects some insects that were threatening the group. He's only done this a few times before in his life, and he's still learning! Kappa is checking out the port.
Garnet sits atop the rabbit borrow, seeing the port in the distance. I think he had ust completed a hunt but don't know for sure.
Grizzly spends some time in the water with his dad, carefl not to get too deep. You can see he was marked as alpha, that's because I thought iI might bring him, but there wasn't room. I guess his father decided he wanted to keep one of his children close by while the other two left for unfamiliar lands.
Kappa spies a bearyena off to the side. I had forgotten this dude existed, but here he was, ready to ruin my plans of leaving for the next island with my creatures at full (or close to full) health!

Milenta leaves her sister Yukiko's side for what is probably the first time in her life. She is deciding to go onto the next island, carrying with her their mother's genes. Bear meets a bear, the peaceful bear to be exact. Kappa and Swan hang out by the shore.
Swan dives into the water once more after learning the love of it. She heads toward the port, only to find a bunny curled up amoung some omninous bones. It's actually kinda cute, lol
Day 109 is rainy. This family down here will not be sending any members onto the next island. (name) proudly hunts us down some more food. She knows her friend Kuku is leaving and wants them to have as much food as possible in their new home.
Kuku comes closer as Kali tries to hunt a rabbit. She was pretty sure she wanted to leave for the next island with the group, but now is having second thoughts. It doesn't appear there will be room for her anyways.
Rian meets the wanderer Meko, whom we invited into the tribe mostly out of pity and in hopes that she could gather some food for us before we leave. They fall in love and pick stinky fruits together.
(I forgot his name too...) picks some more berries for us, he's always been responsible that way.
Pridukkir hunts a rabbil, his favorite thing to do. Meanwhile, Halkrath sits atop a feast of her own.
IDK how all these got turned around...why are there screensots from day 91 in the middle of day 109?? huh

The above screenshots are mainly of the rogue male who impregnated a couple of the females and tried to get Eli, (who wasn't having it), and Halkrath (who tried to retaliate but couldn't due to having no strength) before finally being killed off by an angry and protective Garnet.

Constellationkit didn't like the she-cat's reply. I don't like wait, whatever that is! She kept up with the she-cat, but decided to ask Skykit, "What's a cat?"

The Frog Experiments
in Playthroughs
Posted
Kore is blind, and also has no gills. But she still has use to the tribe as the perfect baby to test this on!
She is now le fish baby! She, as a tadpole, will retain her gills until she's an adult (or maybe a teen). Though the drowning status effect is still there, next turn I see it doesn't effect her.

Lenrare crawls up onto the beach, freed from drowning at last.
I skipped to the next turn. In this screenshot I meant to capture who all was taking drowning damage, but I didn't really succeed. It's kinda pretty, though.
As you can see, our experimental tadpole Kore has not taken any water damage. She's making her way toward the shore for some reason.
Meme, who has taken it upon herself to babysit all the tadpoles deep in the water, has a leech. A razorana lies in wait nearby, knowing it's time to feast may soon come.
Mere starts bleeding from the leach but hastily swims away. Lenrare pulls it off and licks her wounds. The razorana followed as fast as it could, but now it swims away, no more able to attack.
The babies head towards their care-giver, their mother-figure, towards the shore. They're confused at being utterly alone.
