(Good luck getting through story mode! I found that settling on and taking a really long time on the archipelago and moving to new islands through generations helps keep water damage down and food up. Of course, I'm the person that has 25 episodes worth of archipelago and will probably die when I get to the harder islands, but I've seen some playthroughs of speed-running it and that doesn't work too well. Also, I breed creatures like crazy, especially at first. Food isn't usually an issue on the easier islands, and to get genes embedded in and enough creatures to gather food it helps to have lots of tries. Perfecting your genes before you get to the harder islands is definitely smart. And there's alot of good tips others have said here. Especially digging paw. I remember that keeping me alive on the mountain islands a while back. Food is scarce, but roots are usually around even so. And if you can get two or more food instead of just one it's even better. Also, purr snout is a must-have in the archipelago and elsewhere, especially if you're a bird-brain like me and accidentally drown nichelings fairly often.)

It's late where I am, but here's episode 18:
(It's the episode where Dondon the psychopath is born! Well he was already born, but he wasn't known to be a psychopath before this. He was just a relatively obscure nicheling before his psychopath infamy!)
In this episode Duktata is betrayed by his brother Dondon when I confuse the two and accidentaly have Dondon breed with his brother's mate (unsuccessfully however because of low fertility genes). Also, the friendly Bearyena reappears after following members of Rekoana's island to the other side of the island.
(Also friendly Bearyena! Yay!)-

(Probably enough to last you 2-3 days. Food can go bad, but is less likely to go bad if you store it. however, if you store it, you leave it unprotected)
Mekir decided to eat one of the berries and one worm, together as a meal. He figured he should make a new stock-pile in the sand as he had on his former island. He found a suitable place near the water to dig a hole a foot deep. He made a smallish stream in the sand and waited for water to flow into it, then put sand over the stream to stop the water from flowing out. He stuck the worms in the water, and made another hole next to the first for the berries. He put all but one berry in the second hole. Mekir then put sand over it all. This all took him quite a long time, digging out the sand with his one webbed paw, but he figured it was worth it in the end to be able to keep his stuff fresh longer. (Also haven't I used 3 actions now since moving is an action, digging for worms is an action, and all this is at least one action?)

You are not very tired
The water soaks through your pelt, causing you to shiver. The sea life is staying away from you, but you managed to find some worms.
-Eat them
-Store them
-Look around
-Move
-Sleep
-Other
(how many worms? I may eat some and store some. Also does food go bad?)
-
(Also how many days has @Modiano the Business Snake gone through? [love the new name btw, now I can call u modiano again] And how does that effect me if at all? Like if someone goes through 10 days do I have to catch up to find them on where they are at day 10?)

The world around you seems to be covered in a haze. it all looks normal... but it doesn't at the same time
You are surrounded by fields of grass, and you can see a patch of flowers near you.
You are lying in a soft nest. It doesn't look natural. What will you do?
-Call out
-Look around
-Move
-Sleep
-Other
Mekir moved toward the only water he could see, on his left side. He waded into the shallow water, sniffing and feeling around for worms. (I think this only counts as one action, but correct me if wrong).
-
(Also are me and snakiano near eachother or on opposite sides of the island?)

DAY 1
You are not tired.
You can feel yourself gain consciousness. You can't see anything, however. The ground underneath you is soft, and you can smell something floral.
What will you do?
-Open your eyes

-Call out
-DAY 1
You are not tired.
You can feel yourself gain consciousness. You can't see anything, however. The ground underneath you is rough, and you can smell the scent of the ocean.
What will you do?
-Open your eyes
-Move around
-Call out-
(You guys will start out similarly.)

(I'm not really sure for any of these. i would say pretty long life spans, not sure for the island, probably a peaceful meadow, and I don't think there are any tribes, but I could make one if you preferred. I wasn't really going to focus on age spans/tribes and stuff like that, the time is more kind of like limbo? No one really seems to ever get older, like just a repeating cycle of events. Sorry for not making that more clear.)
(Well I thought it would make sense with the structured turn cycle to have each 3 turns of all creatures be a day. Maybe something like 100 days per nicheling?)

@Chiyanna
I edited the rules, tell me if it makes more sense!(It does make more sense, thanks. Also, what are the age settings/how many days does a nicheling live? And what island are we on? Are there any large tribes or tribes at all?)
-
(I legit randomized three nichelings and then rolled a dice to see which one I got...this is the result)
Name: Mekir
Gender: Male
Looks/picture:
Other: Spends most of his time in shallow water. Isn't very good at collecting food so was banished from his native tribe. Found a port while exploring in the water and took it to this new island. A wanderer had pity on him and gave him some food while on his tribe's island, (6 food is left now) this is his main food supply. He gets most of his earned food by digging up worms, despite not having the genes for it. Very rarely ever tries to gather berries. Is friendly toward wanderers, loners, and rogues. Stays away from large groups. Is fairly interested in finding a mate, but will only become mates with someone they have bonded with and trust. Is quite young, but has been an adult for a bit now. -

So like what you said, a whole conversation takes up a point. If you were chasing a bunny and talking, well then it would be 2 points. Does that make sense? Sorry for not explaining it the best.
(A whole conversation makes sense, but then what exactly does a conversation entail? Oh well, perhaps it'll become clearer as we go along)

Thanks for the unrelated family tree and new allegiances! These help alot to follow who everyone is and who they're related to.

@da1sy When you say talking takes one action point, do you mean one conversation or every time your character talks? Also what if your character talks as they walk or chase a bunny or gather berries?))

I had like- 4 tabs open
(No I meant many generally as in many webpages, sometimes it's actually an insecure website, but if it's a website you trust, it actually could be a number of factors making your browser think it's insecure, (some of them on your end). It's your browser checking the SSL of the website to see who it's registered to and if everything adds up. Also, google has a pretension of freaking out and identifies lots of websites as not secure, including all HTTP websites. Here's a couple pages I found talking about this:

(I think I'll join this, but probably not tonight. I have a niche episode to record first. If I have time before I have to go to bed I may get my form in tonight)

Considering posting more often, either a post every Saturday/Sunday, Friday/Sunday or Friday/Saturday/Sunday. Which sounds best?
Don't stress yourself out over it. The worst thing is to have too much to do and not be able to do it all. But Friday/Sunday would work best for me if you want to do so.

Hey, it would really help me to complete the updated version of this thing if someone could look through the family tree and provide the names of any creatures who have "yellow line" listed in their bio or anywhere in their details. I need to know which is the yellow line or have some creatures to link my yellow line too. I have screenshots of the current yellow line founders but they were dead when I took them so it doesn't show their parents. I haven't found any creatures that say their of the yellow line in bios, and don't have time to look through them all.

"I have... no idea. Maybe s- someone else knows? Should we- should we look for others?"
Can I use this 'voice' to project what I'm thinking? "Yes, I can!" the creature said with delight. Then they realized the voice of the other creature meant something. They were voicing what their head was thinking. "Sorry," the creature didn't even know why, just that their comment was out of place....they felt something sad, empathetic perhaps.

So I did some editing and adding, this version is more accurate and has some more creatures.
Niche-Story-mode-project-19-Mar-2021-170351758.html
Also I can't tell which original line was the yellow line and the only yellow linking creatures I have screenshots of aren't already in the tree and were dead by the time I took the pictures. So I can't see who their parents were
I thus don't know where the yellow line goes on the tree. I think the yellow line was one of the ones that came from the purr-snout creature that mated with alot of females as explained in the first "Look in Bio"

This is my current family tree, it's basically the same as in the intro video still. I'll reexport when I get it up to date. But you can explore the tree form episode 0 on your own.Niche-Story-mode-project-19-Mar-2021-150826289.html
