  1. ((These were my last three posts. Though everyone should probably go back and read from the start of the day, feel free to repsond to my last post)
  2. (So there are multiple save slots? And also, I actually don't have the most recent version but want to get the most recent development version. How do I update my game and should I back up my save first?
  3. You heard an odd sound, out there in the fog. It sounded a bit like a distant nicheling...but it was also faint and odd sounding.
  4. "They may need help..." but what if you can't find your way back after finding them? "Do you know the way back to the swamp?"
  5. Well in my first post I said I was copying @A Nicheling's homethread by putting it here. Plus I mainly hang out in the Niche section anyway. So if a nicheling's homethread has been moved then move it. But since my homethread is mainly niche focused so far it's probably alright here. Maybe ask another mod if you're not sure? I wouldn't want to break the rules of the forum or clog up the niche section.
  6. I made it not that long ago I've also only posted on it like... Three times Welcome to the homethread... Odd underlined text that is plotting to kill me
  7. Thank you! I'm also surprised to be in such a good position going into the mid-level islands, but scared none-the-less because I've never gotten to the hard levels in story mode before. I'm just generally very careful and organized. I carefully select breeding partners and mark them so I don't forget, I also mark family lines not only to easily tell who's related but give me a sense of their history and give me something to shoot for for that line. For instance, pink line became a line of healers generally, and red line (specifically red-blue) is becoming our line of fighters, and green line is our nutcrackers and fishers. I am just as careful with food gathering, choosing not to speedrun archipelago and instead slowly populating each island in order to stockpile food and prevent deaths from drowning damage. This advantage had a flip side of me spending over 40 episodes on one island, though, which I can't really say I'm proud of since it made the series boring for a while lol I also got very lucky getting a purrsnout creature early on which I bred with three females (as they were near death). But I think my best strategy has been to breed like crazy. My Adam and Eve had over 7 children (maybe even 10, though I can't know for sure because that was so long ago and I wasn't recording back then). Since then I've always paired up pretty much anyone I can and made sure they had enough children so that at least one would get the genes I was looking for and/or survive. However since I don't have too much experience surviving harder islands and we don't really have a lot of strength or other enviroment specific adaptations, I'm unsure if I can guide this group to home island and successfully complete story mode for the first time. But I love the stories I've made with my nichelings and the history of their tribe and it has been a fun journey, that's what really matters. Anyway, thanks for your feedback and I probably wrote way too much back lol I tend to be on the wordy side.
  8. "Another noise...another...eyes...but far...a spirit far, calling out." As they stuttered, searching for words that they were beggining to remember, a distant noise reached your ears. It was so far, and so faint, and it seemed even garbled. (And yes I am doing something here but don't worry it shouldn't be against the rules)
  9. Also thinking of making Clan Generator videos, so let me know if you have any cool clan generator suggestions or challenges!
  10. Here's another link to my new Niche video on youtube! This is the next episode of my storymode series where we explore the swamp/rainforest? (correct me on this island type please) island. I'm trying to do a strategy of getting to the port ASAP while also having the bearyena descendent Anarame of the red-blue-red line have as many children as possible since she is nearing death. Also a bearyena attacks, threatening the carefully selected genepool because if one nicheling dies, it is likely the genes that got them selected and their family line die with them.
  11. "But there's another...other..." the nervous nicheling wasn't quite able to say what they wanted to for some reason. Their mind still felt rather foggy. But the sound of that cry from the other direction stuck in their mind.
  12. I really want to have another clan generator save so I can keep GreenClan and make a youtube series with a different clan. I figured you could probably go into the game files and backup the save the same way you would a niche save (copy-paste into another folder on your compter, then copy-paste back in when ready to use it). But I looked into the folder and found that the save seemed to be split up into multiple different files and a folder with even more files, not near as simple as the single niche savefile. Plus, I use development version, which uses Thonny to open the game. So if I took the files out, would Thonny just not open the game or corrupt it somehow? Can I move the save while the game is open, too, like in Niche? I really don't want to corrupt my save trying these things when not evensure I can back it up. Could someone else please figure this out? Maybe if you're done playing clan generator or don't care if you lose your current savefile? Or has someone else already tried this and thus knows how? Either way, woudl love any input, thanks.
  13. ((I will if they will. I still blame the monster for the death of this thread whoever they are. Killing Modiano in an rp is never good for it's longevity /j
  14. I feel like if Draedith isn't too old yet she's the natural choice. Or you could pick one of the children of the previous leader/starting pair for a classic monarchal heir progression.
  15. (You may want to get @Ghost-tuft's permission before rping as this character. It kinda defeats the point to have someone who keeps all their memories here, but on the flip side having a ghost-like creature that can travel in and out of this realm may add something lore-wise.)
  16. Nervous brother heard a noise in the distance, and then another, that had to be someone! But as they got ready to head that way they heard another sound from the other direction. Another one? How many are out here in the fog? Or was it the same call, bouncing around, appearing to come from many places at once. The second call seemed more distant. Was there a way to get to both of these others calling out into the fog? An idea suddenly occurred in their mind, so the nervous brother called out to both, "I'm here!" they yelled as loud as they could muster, "Come this way!"
  17. This episode we start exploring the swamp island we find ourselves on. Seeing that going partially through the island to get to the port is faster than circumventing the island by traveling along the beach, I start moving everyone inland after going around a bulge. We cut a path through the grass toward the port as we near it, discovering a river. Anarame of the red-blue-red bearyena line sets up in a nest once I realize she needs to have whatever children she is going to have before we get to the next island, due to her age. We also breed multiple compatible pairs but do not yet have the children be born until we get to the next island, in order to preserve genes in case of any males death. Our tribe is also attacked by a bearyena, and it will take the whole tribe working together to take it down, hopefully before it does any damage.

  19. (You can go looking, but I cannot guarantee that you will find him, or that you won't yourself get lost trying... I'm depending it upon a random generator for some randomness and drama. So if you do continue down this path of searching for me, my responses will be based off my dice rolls.) Thr nervous brother walked in the direction they thought the swamp was. But the more they walked, the more the endless moor stretched out in front of them. They stopped beside some sort of plant...similair to the one seen in their memory flash earlier, to collect themself. Maybe they had been walking in the wrong direction, but what was the right one? I can't remember, everything's so hazy. They looked at the plant, trying to picture it as they saw it earlier in their mind. Even that seemed hazy, only the colors of this place rather than the vibrant ones the plant was. It must be all this fog, that's all. It's crept into my mind.
  20. When Reana showed up at the main nursery bursting at the seams, Sita was tempted to turn her away. Why did she have to show up at my nursery? She thought, now everyone will know that this illegal child was born here, giving it an awful reputation! For she knew something untoward was happening, since this was Reana's second child, and she was no breeding female. A mere food collector, with no secondary role, she had never announced her intentions of being a breeding female, neither had the council or Sita herself approved it. So she was only allowed to birth one child under tribe law. Her last had been the child of a rogue male, so with no other explanation she wondered if this one was too. As head healer Sichi rushed her into the nest and began preparing for the birth, Reana left for the other side of the nursery. Usually, she would now distract all the children she found from the unpleasant but usually rather common sight of a child coming into the world, but now she was in no mood. She busied herself by collecting grass as she pulled her thoughts together, still able to hear the commotion as Reana struggled with the birth. Part of her was for once glad for the pain that accompanied it, but then again, if it was a rogue's baby, perhaps it wasn't Reana's fault at all. Perhaps she would be as glad as anyone when the child was killed or left to die in accordance with tribe law. After all, having a rogue's child was bitter-sweet, as Reana knew, since they reminded you of the rogue and the awful thing they did to you to give you this child that would find it much harder to pull their weight for the tribe, given the genetic defects the rogues usually carried. Perhaps that emotional rollercoaster was better to be left alone, snuffed out along with the life that drove it. Though Sita did care for her rogue child, she had noticed that the unusually high number of rogue impregnations was putting strain on the tribe as a whole. And now, hearing the cry of a newborn rogue descendent, and knowing what fate awaited them anyway... This is a bad idea. And it's a dreadful thing to do. But it must be done, sooner or later. And if I correct this breaking of the law now, it would be less likely to hurt my nursery's reputation, would it not? Looking around, she saw most of the teens were outside the nursery limits, and the smaller children were sleeping. So she slowly crept back over to the other side of the nursery. The child was of course nestled next to it's mother, and she didn't think Sichi would let her hold it. So her only option was to come in quick while nobody was looking and snatch it away. After a minute of waiting, she spotted the perfect opportunity, and as she sprung into action, someone jumped in front of her path. Going too fast for correction, she bumped into them, causing her to lose her footing and fall. She muttered a curse word as she did, then said to this new nicheling, "What do you think you're doing, getting in my way like that. Don't you know who I am?" "I know exactly who you are. We grew up together, remember? And I'm preventing you from making a very serious mistake." It took her a minute to place the voice, but then she remembered. "Kirdukta? Is that you?" "Of course it is!" then he became much more serious, "We need to talk, alone." "Sure, it's certainly been a while." She glanced over at Sichi, who was giving her the death stare. Apparently Sichi had noticed something, at least this catch-up would give her time before she had to explain herself. So they walked out of the nursery, settling just at the edge of tribe territory to talk. But as they walked in silence, Sita wondered what Kirdukta was doing here, and why he stopped her from carrying out tribe law. "Why did you stop me? And how did you even know?" "I knew because I saw your posture, you looked about ready to pounce from behind and were laser-focused on that baby. What were you thinking? Why would you do such a thing?" He seemed...agitated. "She's not a breeding female, and has already had her first child. This was her second. Under tribe law, they must be killed or banished. Don't you know that?" She explained self-righteously. "But this can't be carried out by you. Only the council decides what must be done. And the warriors carry out their decision." "But it's my nursery. I decide what goes on in there. I could've prevented her from using that nest, and I can kick her out at any time. How is this different?" "This has nothing to do with mere usage and land boundaries and who decides what. This is the fate of a member of the tribe at stake." Kirdukta said, rather exasperated. "How can you call a rogue child a tribe member? They aren't fully tribe blood, nor did any tribe member make the decision to bring them into the world. They're a fluke, and one that costs the tribe dearly in terms of resources." But seeing the hurt in his eyes, she finally put two and two together, "They're not a rogue child, are they?" "No," he said quietly. "It's your child, isn't it?" "Remember when you told me that you were going to be a breeding female, the night I left for good?" "Yes, I remember," she said, surprised at the emotions suddenly coming to the surface. "And you said that even though you would have the children of many males, you loved me still and wanted me to stay, but I said if I can't have a mate just for myself, I couldn't have one at all. And I had fallen in love with someone else." "Reana is that someone else," she said, emotion raw in her voice. "And it was never supposed to happen this way. She was supposed to have one child, my child. And we would raise it together and be a family. But the rogue got to her first. He shattered our plans for a life together. We came up with a new plan, though. She was supposed to get a secondary role as a breeding female. But then we found out she was pregnant again, I guess after she had the first child we couldn't help ourselves when we got back together again, but we never expected her to have another so soon. So then we couldn't have her go before the council to become a breeding female, since they would know it was just to circumvent the rules that she had already broken. She was then supposed to have the child far from camp, pretend she found it or something, but she went into labor early." She couldn't help but feel bad for Kirdukta, maybe because she still had feelings for him. But she found her hatred of Reana developing, and her hatred of the child they had created grow even more. "Why did you tell this all to me? Don't you realize I just tried to kill the child?" "You're the only one here I really know. And I know you would've never hurt them if you knew they were my blood." It was true that though she felt hatred for the child, now she would never hurt it herself as she had planned. For Kirdukta would never forgive her. And that mattered very much to her for reasons she couldn't explain. "Yes, but why tell me all this, what can I do about it?" "You loved me once, and we are good friends of old. All I ask is that you present my case to the council, as a member with influence. Ask that the child be spared, and that if it must be punished in accordance with tribe rules, ask that the child be banished along with it's mother and me." "You wish to leave the tribe? But, you'll die! You'll die out there on your own!" "You forget, I am an explorer. I know of what dangers there are out there, and what can be done to avoid them. But I must be with my family, that is my dream. You have found your happiness here, with an important role in the tribe. I am glad for you, give me a chance to find mine." Could she really do this? Should she put her position in jeopardy just to get her best friend and the one she loved banished? "I will take this into consideration, but I must tell the council what I really think. At the very least, I will let the council and the warriors do their job if it comes to that. I will not interfere anymore, and will make sure Reana and her child have the utmost comfort before the hearing." She could at least do that, so that he would think better of her. But promising to do this thing for him was a big mistake, because even if she tried, what if it didn't work? And if she didn't, somebody could tell this to him. So this was the best thing she could think of.
  21. After waiting a moment for a reply, and hearing nothing. The spirit decided it was best to head back to the swamp. They turned around, the swamp was in that direction, back the way they came, wasn't it? @Ghost-tuft can you rp the landscape or roll a random number generator for success getting back to the swamp? Or have one of your characters run into me? Alternatively I could also run into someone else who is out on their own))
  22. With nobody to escort back now, the Nervous Brother decided they might as well go along too. But it took them a minute to decide, and so they started off walking into the fog where they had seen the others go. "Hello?" they called out, hoping they weren't too far away to be heard.
