"The word thief?" She asked and chuckled. "It means to be someone who steals things! Like some nicheling's steal fruits from packs..." She trailed off and bit hey tongue.

Thief's eyes opened wide. Well, at least now he was sure thief didn't mean a good thing. But this nicheling might know something about the other words in his dream as well. He didn't steal things when he was alive, right? Wasn't that wrong? Why would he do wrong things?

'What about, what about murderer? And liar? What do those mean?' he asked, pretending he didn't really care, that he picked these words off of someone else. He forced himself not to look at Sharp, just in case Sharp knew what the words meant, and they meant something awful, and Sharp had guessed that Thief was all those awful things. No you're not. He forced himself to think. You're probably not that bad. Once you find your memories, there will be an explanation.

But what if he was a bad nicheling? What if he was forgotten because nobody cared, and for a good reason? What if nobody had loved him, because there was nobody to love someone as awful as him? Thief's paws shook slightly, and he didn't seem to notice.

Her sharp ears picked up the noise. This is humiliating! Now I need to send out more smoke so they find me!! She took everything she knew and sparks of smoke erupted from her scar. She screamed in pain as slight sparks dropped out as well. She knew where the smoke was going but she didn't dare move.

Thief yelped as the spirit screamed, and smoke erupted from the scar. He had no idea how she was doing this, but he didn't need to know.

    Run run run run run.

He felt panic rising in him, an instinctive need to survive, regardless of what might happen to others if he ran. The feeling felt familiar. He decided not to pay attention to it. He limped closer, trying to make his paws stop shaking. He was right next to her now.

'What's happening to you?! How can I help!?' he asked. And how in the heck are you doing this?!

He followed behind, though he was a bit slow, as his large body was not built for running, and his giant horns got caught on things.

The smoke died down to a shallow wisp and the last of it sent out uncertainty.

Thief broke out of the forest to find the weird spirit just sitting there, trails of smoke escaping from it.

'Are you okay?' he called out, not really wanting to get any closer. Sharp finally got out of the forest as well, a little bit behind Thief. Should he bring this spirit to guiding? 'What are we supposed to do?' he asked Sharp nervously.

"You're welcome I guess." He said. "Sorry if I came off as overprotective. Something in my mind just told me to defend no matter what. And it makes me want to find my memories even more, for some reason..."

He heard the nicheling's shrill scream. "Who was that!?" He yelped. "What if it was the nicheling with the smoke scar? Should we help?" He looked towards Thief.

'Maybe if we both sleep forever we'll get all our memories back!' Thief laughed, back to his usual self. 'And don't worry about being overprotective. I am pretty useless in terms of being able to take care of myself.'

He heard the scream as well, and jumped.

'I mean, I guess we should help!?' he said, having absolutely no idea what to do. He ran towards where the scream was coming from.

The spirit rolled her eyes. "I dont stay in trees when sobby nichelings ruin them. Its yours." She said dryly and flew off toward the foggy moors

Thief felt a pang of guilt in him. He barely knew the spirit, but of course he had ruined something of hers by sobbing like a little cub. He looked down at his paws. Then back up at Sharp.

'Thanks for... Thanks for looking for me. When I ran off. I wasn't really thinking, I didn't know the way back.' He said, slightly embarrassed. He was glad Sharp was here anyway. If he wasn't, then Thief would have to deal with the rude nicheling by himself. The memory of the awful dream was still in the back of his mind. Should he tell Sharp?

No! Hissed his thoughts. He'll hate you as well!

He slowly awoke, and noticed Thief wasn't nearby. "Thief? Thief, where are you!?" He called out, but to no avail. No no no. Don't tell me I lost my only friend. He seemed so desperate for friends, but he couldn't remember why. He wandered around the strange dark world for a while, until he finally found him, curled up in a ball, sobbing quietly. He silently sat down next to him. He hesitated. Is he ok? I've never seen a nicheling so...upset before. So....hurt.

"...Thief, are you ok?" He asked softly. "I can leave if you don't feel like talking right now..."

Thief snapped his head up, seeing Sharp before him.

'Fine! Fine, I'm f-fine.' He stammered out an automatic response. He felt anything but fine, but ah well. 'I uh, I was just..' Thief struggled to come up with a good lie. He hated lying to basically his only friend. He knew the feeling of lying to someone he cared about was very familiar. It felt terrible.

'I just had a dream.' He mumbled, settling for the truth. He didn't need to tell Sharp about it, didn't need to bother his friend. 'You can stay, it's.. I don't want you to leave.' the thought of being alone again in this forest scared him more than telling Sharp his dream. Being alone. For some reason he hated being alone, and yet with a group of more than 3 nichelings, he got nervous!

The spirit peered out from her branch to look at the others. She pounced down from the tree next to them. She had flared her wings and made herself look big. "Why are you in my tree?" She hissed regally.

Suddenly, another spirit approached. She didn't look the least bit friendly, but Thief picked himself up, and tried to make himself smile anyway. It didn't work.

    12 hours ago, Andromeda_ said:

"I didn't know this was yours, but why did you have to be so rude?" He hissed, baring his sharp saber fangs, and unsheathing his tough bearyena claws. He stood in front of Thief protectively.

Thief let Sharp stand in front of him. Sharp was much stronger anyway. He didn't have a useless paw.

'Sharp, wait.' Thief muttered. 'We should probably run, if this is the spirits tree.' He knew it sounded cowardly, but what was the point of fighting? He pushed himself out from behind his friend and forced himself to speak. Compared to Sharp, he looked small and squeaky.

'We don't mean you any harm! We'll leave if you want us to leave!' he said quickly. But the conversation had already strayed to the strange nichelings scar. She knew where she got hers, even though it looks like she hadn't been here for a while. She probably didn't get it because nichelings hated her. He thought bitterly. Those nichelings in the dream weren't even aiming to kill him, because he was much bigger here than in the dream. They just aimed to break his paw so it couldn't be repaired, for whatever reason. Thief stood right next to Sharp, waiting for the strange spirits answer.

He laid down as careful as possible to not poke Thief with his huge megaloceros horns. He closed his eyes as well, and eventually drifted off to sleep.

Thief was standing in a circle of nichelings. They all towered over him. The biggest one, she was grey, was yelling at him. The others were too.

    Liar. Thief. Coward. Murderer.

He cried for them to stop, but they wouldn't listen. There was another nicheling in the crowd, that wasnt yelling. It was the nicheling from his memory, the one he chased across the water. He could see them clearer now, they had a heat body, a feathered tail and bright yellow and black fur. He still couldn't see their face. He called for the nicheling to help him, to not let the others hurt him. But the nicheling looked so sad, so lost, and they turned away.

    They grey nicheling came closer.

'This is what you deserve. Goodbye.' she snarled, lifting her paw. Another nicheling held out Thief's left paw, even though he struggled. Suddenly, the grey nicheling hit Thief's paw as hard as she could, and it hurt so much, and his head spun...

Thief woke up, shivering. He needed to get away. Away. He struggled to stand up, and ran into the forest, he ran and ran, past the stream, and a wierd old trunk. He found a tree with roots that curled, so he tucked himself away under it. He covered his face with his feathered tail, so no one would see his bright eyes, and find him. He sobbed quietly, the horridness of the memory still fresh in his mind. The more he remembered about himself, the more he realised maybe he didn't want to know who he was.

  8. Lilits eyes widened as she approached the group. She thought she recognized the older one, but she wasn't sure. The large one yelled for the one called 'Cane' to come back.

'Don't worry, we have no intention of hurting you. We are the Tribe of Sun. This looks like a safe territory, and we will offer protection if you let us stay here.' Lilit said calmly. The oldest one walked up to her.

'I am Lupo.' He said. 'Of no tribe. These are my brothers King, and Cane. We would actually like to... Join your tribe.' Lupo assured himself it would be safer that way.

Lilit blanched. It couldn't be. Haran and her family ran off, probably killed by bearyena. And yet her son was here, with 2 other sons. She had only seen Lupo for a few minutes, but the resemblance they all bore to Haran was unsettling. She was about to yell and fight him off, but she composed herself.

'I will talk about this to my co-leader.' Lilit said coldly. It was really and excuse to convince Ifi to chase these three away. Lilit was not going to have a repeat of last time. Lupo nodded and walked back to his brothers. Ifi caught up with her.

'Well?' he asked, flicking his tail.

'We're not inviting them.' Lilit said quickly, whipping around to face him. Ifis eyes widened. This was the first time he saw her being genuinely scared.

'Why not?' Ifi was a creature of few words.

'These are the children of Haran. She was an awful creature who led the tribe to near ruin. She left behind tribe members on a whim, and left the entire tribe behind once the going got tough. Those three will be just like her.' Lilit felt tears prick at her eyes at the thought of everyone she lost, so she quickly turned away, composing herself. 'We are not letting them join the tribe.' she repeated.

'So you're going to blame them for their mothers mistakes, even though they're barely adults, and one is still a child?' Ifi was calm. 'You're going to leave them to fend for themselves?' Lilit tensed. Then she let out a sigh.

'Fine. They can join.' She growled. 'But if they step out of line once..'

'I doubt that will happen.' Ifi comforted, going over to let the brothers know they were part of the tribe now. Lilit watched him go. She trusted his judgement, he was calm and collected. No wonder he was a leader. Maybe she could step down? Lilit had never wanted to be leader, with all the responsibilities and the guilt. Ifi was used to that, she could let him lead. But no. This was what she had to do. The others don't trust Ifi fully, not yet. And until then, she has to stay as she is, making sure the Tribe of Sun, and Lilits tribe get along. She straightened herself, and walked after Ifi.

After a few days, the tribe was getting along well with each other, and bearyena hadn't attacked in ages.

Zephyr and Fenris had been out exploring. The two had grown close, because Fenris always loved hearing the daring tales Zephyr loved telling. She was old, and had crossed many island, each one more exciting than the last. In the middle of a tale about bears as white and huge as the mountains, a bearyena leaped out at the two. Zephyr was old, so she stumbled out of the way while Fenris growled and scratched and bit it.

'Lupo! Mira! Help us!' He called. He knew those two were somewhere nearby, but he didn't know that a bearyena had attacked Lupo as well. It clawed him across his chest, and knocked him over. The usually quiet Mira screamed in rage, and threw herself at it. King ran forward too, and both of them fought, until the bearyena lay dead at their paws.

Suddenly, a scream echoed from where Fenris and Zephyr were.

'I'll go help them.' King nodded at Mira. 'Get Lupo to a healing plant.'

Mira dragged Lupo up, bringing him to the plant nearby. King joined in on the fight, and him and Fenris quickly killed the bearyena. King panted, exhausted from the fight.

'Disgusting creatures.' He snarled at the dead bearyena between his paws. He was young when his entire family was killed by a pack of them, but he remembered. Even if he didn't want to.

'Well its over now.' Fenris panted, sitting back.

'Thank you.' Zephyr nodded. 'We should get back to the tribe.'

The three of them walked home, before night fell.

Meda was fuming. She laid in the grasses, knowing no one would be able to find her here. Why would Cheri still treat her like a kit!? Her sisters words still echoed in her head.

'You can't go out past the border. You're too young, too inexperienced.'  Cheri had said.

'But Fenris does it all the time!' Meda had complained. But Cheri was sure that Meda couldn't do anything on her own.

'Well I'll show you!' she yelled to no one in particular. 'I'm not a kit anymore Cheri!' The grasses parted, and Meda almost had a heart attack before realising it was just Shee.

'Meda? Is everything okay?' he asked gently.

'Fine.' she growled. But Shee was her friend. She could tell him. 'Cheri won't let me go out past the border, even though I know how to take care of myself. It's like I'm just a kit to her!' Meda fumed.

'Well, maybe it's not that. It's dangerous out there Meda, in sure she just doesn't want you to get hurt.' Shee answered. Meda knew he was right, but she just rolled her eyes. 'But you're right as well. You're older now, she shouldn't coop you up all the time. So here's a deal. You go out and explore, but only if you take me with you. To keep you safe.' Shee smiled a brilliant smile. Meda grinned back.

'Alright then you dodomingo, let's for explore.' She smiled, her previous anger forgotten. She was glad Shee wanted to go with her, it wouldn't be half as fun if she went alone.

Fenris was hunting. A rabbit was just on the beach, while Fenris was hidden in the grass. A creature suddenly flew out of the water, yelping loudly. Fenris immediately ran up.

'Is everything alright?' Fenris said, but he quickly noticed the leech and the bleeding on her damp, thin fur.

'Do I look alright?' she snapped, turning towards Fenris' voice. He quickly notices she was blind. She musnt have seen the leech in the water. He pulled it off her, she yelled again, but thanked him.

'I'm from the Tribe of Sun.' Fenris said. The name still felt weird when he said it. 'Would you like to join?' he knew he shouldn't be throwing invitations around like this, but she looked strong and capable, even if she was quite small.

'Do you have food?' she said quickly. Fenris nodded, so she decided to join.

'I'm Fess.' she said while Fenris guided her to the camp. She walked with her head held high. Her eyes looked like they had scars on them, and the rest of her body ahd scars too, easy to see under her thin fur. She didn't seem to care about them. 'Princess Fess, actually.'

Fenris' eyes widened. He had heard from Zephyr about strange tribes who had strange titles for the leaders, and the family of leaders. Fess kept talking.

'My old clan was separated, but they'll be here soon. I'll stay with your tribe until they come. You better treat me well.' she sniffed. Fenris already didn't like her. 'And I demand that I only be led by royalty.'

Fenris wracked his head for an idea. Lilit and Ifi were always too busy, they wouldn't have time to care for a spoiled creature like Fess. But Kings name sounded quite regal.

'You could stay with King.' He offered. Fess nodded excitedly. 'He's one of the creatures in our tribe, not an actual King. We don't have any royalty.' Princess Fess visibly deflated.

'I guess he'll have to do.' she sighed. She wouldn't talk to Fenris for the rest of the way there.

He put his head on his paws and closed his eyes. "I don't think it'll lighten up here." He confessed. "From the memory flashes I had, I noticed that sometimes it was dark, and sometimes it was light, meanwhile here, it's stayed dark the whole time." He began ripping up the grey blades of grass out of boredom. "I feel bad for nichelings afraid of the dark."

'Who would have thought that a big guy like you could be such a softie.' Theif laughed quietly. 'But yeah, it must be hard for them. Maybe they get used to it. Or maybe they don't.' He said, more serious. His eyes were still closed. He let himself concentrate on nothing at all. That's how you were supposed to sleep, right? After a few minutes, his breathing evened out, and he was asleep.

"I talked to him earlier. He seemed to have had a sudden memory flash, but he told me he doesn't get flashbacks." He said. "I wonder how he's feeling." Sharp laid down and flicked his stinky tail around, bored.

'You could go talk to him or something. Or you can stay here if you want.' Thief shrugged. He actually wanted to try out what sleeping was like. 'I'm gonna try and go to sleep.'

What would it be like? Can you even sleep in this weird world? Thief closed his eyes and settled down. He knew Sharp was right beside him, even if he couldn't see him. It made him kind of nervous, to know someone is there but not being able to see them. He was less nervous knowing it was a friend though. This time Thief didn't push the feeling away, but he still remembered nothing.

"I don't know what it feels like." He said. "All I remember is that you close your eyes and the next time you open them, it'll be lighter than it was before, and there will be a giant yellow beam in the sky." He said. 'I can't remember what that yellow beam was called though."

'Well then maybe if we go to sleep it'll be a little brighter here.' Thief looked around. The entire time they were here, it didn't get any brighter, and he doubted it would get brighter now. They reached the others, and Thief noticed that Venom snout guy was acting a little wierd.

'Everything okay with him?' Thief muttered, leaning over to Sharp. Thief sat down with a grunt, glad to give his paw some rest. He rested his head on his paws.

Sharp smiled. "Well, I guess we could share it for now."

    A quick flash of memory.

He was surrounded by his siblings from the last flashback. The body of a rabbil was in front of them. A sibling with a spiky body and a wide grey marking on her chest tried to grab it. The mother from the last memory stopped her. "Tooth! You have to share that with your siblings!"

"But Mommy, I'm so hungry I could eat this whole rabbil!" Tooth squealed.

The memory quickly faded, and he wasn't sure what to feel about it.

Thief laughed, and continued walking. Suddenly he stopped.

'Wait, where did the crying nicheling go!?' he said, alarmed. He caught sight of her walking ahead, and relaxed slightly. Perhaps she'd go join up with the others. He would hate for her to have gotten lost just because he wasn't paying attention. He looked up at Sharp, and saw him flashback for a second. A pang of jealousy went up in him, that Sharp was remembering more than Thief could, but Thief hid his jealousy quickly.

'We should get back to the others.' He smiled, the discomfort he felt of not knowing who he was was buried deep down in him. It was his problem, not anyone else's. Being an inconvenience, burdening someone else with his troubles, would be more awful to him than keeping quiet. He walked ahead.

'Do you feel tired?' he asked, trying to spark conversation. 'I remember back when I was... alive, nichelings used to sleep. I don't know what it gives you, but you're supposed to sleep when you feel tired. What does that feel like?'
