Day 27,

#003 is showing increasing signs of old age - our team estimates she may live for another two to three days. She is currently taking care of #011, her younger cub. #007 and #010 continue to fish together, with quite some success. We are happy to see the nichelings vary their diet.

#008 and #006 continue to care for their cub, both seeming to be quite protective of him. Our hopes are high that #008 will fall pregnant again soon.

One of our drones has succesfully captured a picture of #004 and #009, confirming our beliefs that the pair is caring for two cubs. We are happy to identify their older cub, #013, as a female. She has been dubbed "Helza".

20201110181605_1.thumb.jpg.0cfbfd54c86e1a72ccc570a9856137ab.jpg

As we have mentioned before, due to the high amount of male cubs in this generation, we are considering selecting a few of them to be given to other programmes attempting to stop the eradication of nichelings. Interested parties are free to contact us!

After a recent issue with our drones, which rendered surveillance useless for a few hours, we have updated to the newest model currently on the market. As these drones are not only in posession of stronger batteries, but also tinier, very quiet and equipped with high-resolution cameras we will be able to take far more and better pictures of our individuals, enabling us to analyse their behaviour even better than beforehand. Our most recent update will also be the last one taken using our old drones.

Are they the CatCapture drones?

Day 28, Sunny

We are glad to announce that #011 has reached aulthood! His genes were taken and show far greater diversity that the earlier generation. He and his family have spent a relaxed afternoon together.

#011 "Zul"

20201110191716_1.jpg.2e4398da629db0740eaad4e9a95d1ae3.jpg

20201110191838_1.thumb.jpg.65ff7e4348a927ac7ecca3dc880a37c4.jpg

Meanwhile, #008 appears to be pregnant once again, but hasn't nested yet. We assume she might feel like she still needs to protect her first cub, and will give birth once he has grown up.

With our far more advanced drones we have now been able to take yet another picture of #004 and her family. Her younger cub, #014, has been dubbed "Anli" by our researchers. Since #004 is quite old as well, we do not expect her to have another cub.

Day 29, Rainy

In the early morning, our drones have sadly failed to detect a life sign from #003. "Niim", as she was dubbed, was the first nicheling born on the island, and the first and only so far to cross into another perimeter. Her mate, #007, and her cubs appear to be grieving her death, and haven't left her body throughout the day.

20201110192623_1.thumb.jpg.e175a7ce496a1ed43e7a91b91e4173ed.jpg

Meanwhile, #012 has grown up, and our drones have succesfully decoded his genetic code. His mother #008 seems to be more relaxed and has built a new nest, likely to give birth to her second cub.

#012 "Lami"

20201110192901_1.jpg.128802e808df5b5d32ba625c1158ef8b.jpg

20201110192906_1.jpg.8e2b234bc0ed258853465ffb5e1f0aab.jpg

One of our drones has detected a new warmth signature in #004's nest. Our team assumes that she must have conceived a third cub, despite her old age. We fear that she might die before the cub is able to survive alone, as she is already quite old.

Day 30, Rainy

#007 and his cubs have left their home and appear to be heading north. Our behavioral experts suggests that this might be both a result of #010 and #011 reaching adulthood, as well as the death of #003. Seeing that #003 migrated farther than all other individuals, this trait of hers seems to reflect in her young.

An extreme closeup from one of our drones has been made, and used to assess the health of #008's newborn offspring. We currently assume the cub #016 to be male, and in good health. (#012 is seen in the middle, is father to the right)

20201110194001_1.thumb.jpg.fb91702b45bd790695dba11148b2af80.jpg

#004's agility has strongly declined, and we assume her death to be near. She has left the nest and been succesful in hunting a rabbil for her family, while #009 cared for their cubs. Their oldest cub, #013, has grown up and her genetic code has been taken.

#013 "Helza"

Day 31, Sunny

#004 has spent the day close to her family, showing signs of fatigue. We assume that she will pass away during the following night. #014, her second cub, has reached adulthood and had his genes recorded.

#014 "Anli"

20201115124439_1.jpg.4d5e0db26834027a59bea5227df65b35.jpg

20201115124444_1.thumb.jpg.9c0408b3a70b03a25bb64ad5862b0a4d.jpg

#008 has left her nest and hunted a stagmole. Her mate #006 appears to be taking care of their newborn cub. Their older son "Lami", #012, seems restless and has spent the day distanced from his parents, leading us to believe he might attempt to migrate.

#007 has stopped advancing, instead clearing out grass. #010 and #011 follow his example.

Day 32, Sunny

#004, "Ilael", has died during the night. Her mate #009 appears to be in extreme distress, having barely eaten. His cubs grieve as well, though they have resumed their normal activities.

Our drones have been able to take a picture of the family:

20201115125257_1.thumb.jpg.a14a080c153480954fb2cdd3df3c512c.jpg

#012 is now clearly migrating, his current path taking him in direction of P2. He remains close to the shore. His younger sibling #016 has been identified as male and nicknamed "Kuulro". #016 shows increasing signs of shortsightedness, similar to his father.

#007 and his sons have continued clearing out grass.

Day 33, Sunny

#007 has unexpectedly passed away during the night. As his sons #010 and #011 appear to be grieving, we will wait another day to separate them. Then we will introduce #011 to his future mate.

#009 seems to have somewhat recovered from his mates death and has eaten today. Both #013 and #014 seem impatient, most likely looking for a mate. We plan on introducing #013 to her mate tomorrow. The youngest cub #015 will most likely be brought to another research center, so overcrowding will not become an issue.

#012 has now entered perimeter 2, his advance being closely surveilled by our drones.

Currently we intend to keep four individuals from generation 2 on the island. #011, #012, #013 and #014. Currently we only have mates for two of them. We would therefore encourage others to consider sending one of their females to our island.

@Okay does the PANR currently have a suitable female? We are looking for all kinds of genes, most notably nichelings with patterns and different kinds of horns.

Day 34, Sunny

#009's youngest cub has grown into an adult. #015, dubbed "Vitoah", has been tranquilized and is currently on the way to his new home, where he will continue being of great importance for the survival of his species.

#015 "Vitoah"

Day 34, Part 2

#010, "Tuku", has left the island as well.

We are very happy to announce that two new nichelings have arrived on the island!

#017 "Vanta", Partner of #013

#018 and #011 could potentially have masked, big-bodied offspring with antlers and green eyes!

#017 and #013 could have big-nosed, spotted, stinky-tailed cubs with savanna horns!

Day 35, Sunny

#016 has grown up - with that every cub of generation 2 is now an adult! The genetical analysis has indeed shown that he suffers from shortsightedness. He has therefore been relocated to another research programme.

#016 "Kuulro"

We have also introduced a new nicheling to #014 - his future mate!

#019 "Peach"

She has been given to us by @Okay

While #019 got acquainted with #014 and #009, both #006 and his mate #008 joined the group. We assume that the two groups have known about each others existence due to their close proximity. As they reach older age they seem to be interested in joining together.

#012 has been seen hunting rabbils in P2.

#017 "Vanta" and #013 "Helza" have entered P4 and are currently moving to the northern side of the island.

#011 has spent the day hunting and offered #018 the meat. The two of them have been seen sharing the meal.

Our drone has been able to take a picture of all our nichelings and their current locations:

Day 36, Sunny

#009 "Lurroduk", #006 "Lonta" and #008 "Eve" seem rather weak. They have spent the day huddled together, with #014 bringing them berries and #019 snuggling them and purring.

#013 and #017 have stopped and #013 appears to be nesting. Our team is quite sure that she is pregnant.

#011 and #018 are hunting together. They are both very affectionate towards the other.

#012 "Lami" has been introduced to his mate #020. She seems to still be quite tired from the transport, ignoring #012.

#020 "Ismiko"

Day 37, Sunny

During the night #009 "Lurroduk" and #009 "Lurroduk",008 "Eve" have died. #006 "Lonta" is still alive, though we expect him to pass away soon as well. #014 and #019 are staying next to #006, caring for him and grieving with him.

#011 and #018 have continued to hunt together. We have reason to belive #018 might be pregnant.

#020 has settled in quick and has continued to dig up roots throughout the day. She appears to like #012.

#013 and #017 have cleared out grass around #013's nest. We believe she is currently nursing a cub.

Day 38, Sunny

As our team had expected, #006 "Lonta" has passed away as well. He was the last living individual of generation 2. "Anli" (#014) and "Peach" (#019) appear to be grieving and have spent the day clinging to the other's side.

#020 and #012 have continued to work together. They don't seem to be overly fond of each other, but haven't shown aggression either.

During the early morning hours, our drones succesfully took a picture of #013, #017 and their cub.

20201117174557_1.thumb.jpg.c222b2264939d06b2121f162409143ca.jpg

More footage recorded by our drones leads us to belive that #018 is pregnant. During the day she appeared to have started nesting.

Day 39, Sunny

#013 has left her nest, together with her cub (now identified as male and nicknamed "Rahs"). However, both she and her mate #017 have continued to stay close to the nest, leading us to believe she might've had a second cub.

#018 hasn't left her nest at all, with #011 bringing her food.

#020 and #012 are showing worrying behaviours, as they have started to search food separately. We are hesistant to judge, but there is a possibility that their pair-bonding was unsuccesful.

Recent footage shows us that #019, "Peach" is pregnant. As of now, she has started to nest, with #014 never leaving her side.
