“I didn’t know you had a mate..”

“Hm? Oh, yeah! I have a mate!”

“Okay.. Then who is he?”

“He?”

“You said you had a mate.”

“I do! She’s on the stump.”

“Lisumib?..”

“Yup! She’s great.”

Yayuta gave a bit of a disgusted look, then stared back down at the child.

“Doesn’t he have a father?”

“Nope!”

“That’s.. Disgusting. A child should have a mother and a father, not two mothers. Whatever your tribe taught you is utter idiocy.”

Yayuta brought her own child closer to her, turning to walk away. She looked over her shoulder to say one last thing before leaving.

“Get rid of that.. Thing.”

And off she goes.

Bibimue sat there in confusion, staring at where Yayuta had gone. After she realized she actually left, she looked down at the cub between her paws.

“Don’t worry, I’m never getting rid of you, Bisib.”

how dare she make fun of the lesbians i’m about to grab my diamond axe and go chop chop

“Yokro, meet Trust. He’s a buddy of mine.”

“Who are you?”

“Don’t mind Trust, he likes to joke around a lot. Anyways, Trust, what’ll happen to dear Yokro?”

“Yokro?”

The nicheling stopped to think, looking out at the ocean.

“Yokro will lose himself to temptation.”

“I what?”

“What’s going on over here?”

Everyone turned to see Owanto glaring at them.

“Oh, hello Owanto! I was just having Yokro meet my friend! Would you like to meet him?”

“How do you know my name? I’ve never even seen you before!”

“Oh, I know many things. Things you don’t even know about yourself!”

“Okay, McCreepy. Yokro, let’s just tell the others about the ports.”

“Oh but they’re already coming! You lead them right to us.”

“I did?”

“Of course you did! Oh, by the way, your daughter misses you.”

“Hello?”

“Hi.”

“What are you doing over here?”

“We’re following mom!”

“Where’d your mom go?”

“Over there!”

Yimime pointed over the waters towards some ports. There were nichelings standing around there and a few huddling on.

“Wait… I think I see my mom too!”

“Oh? Well do you want to come with?”

“Yes! I want to go see mom!”

Lolan climbed out of the hotspring and pranced around in joy.

Yimime chuckled before making his way towards the edge of the water with Lolan, Lilimio, and Yeti.

Kokose had been busy sleeping, and so he was left behind to guard the stump.

“Ugh… Yolk. Somebody take her.”

Owanto was about to walk away, but turned to face Yimime and Lolan.

“Mom!”

“Why are you here? Where’s your dad?”

Lolan looked down a bit. She didn’t even get a hello?

“Dad’s back at the stump..”

“And why aren’t you with him?”

“I wanted to see you!”

Owanto scoffed, tapping the end of her tail against the ground in annoyance.

“I don’t have time for you, Owa.”

“It’s Lolan…”

“Whatever. Just go find your dad. I have a new problem to deal with.”

Lolan teared up, staring at the ground in confusion. Why didn’t her mom want her?

“Hey, lady, why’re you so rude?”

“Rude? I’m just truthful.”

“No, the truth is that you were about to hand off a second child so you didn’t have to do any work. Yet, you stand there and say that you don’t have time for Lolan? All you do is sit back and complain, is that so tiring that you can’t pay attention to your children?”

There was silence for a few heartbeats, and then Owanto scoffed.

“You know nothing of being a parent, don’t be scolding me about things you don’t know!”

I don’t know how to parent? No, YOU don’t know how to parent! That’s the whole point! You never even talk to them!”

“Shut up! Just get out my business you nosey little roach!”

Owanto pushed past him with a growl before walking off.

“Mom?”

“Hm?”

“Where’d everyone go?”

“Oh! They’re all at the ports!”

“Why?”

“Well, we’re getting ready to go to a new place! Well, about half of us. Not all of us can go.”

“Will you go?”

“Probably not. I like this place! And I’m older, so I’m less likely to go. You get to go though! And you get to make new friends there!”

“But I don’t want to go if you’re not there..”

“Don’t worry, I’ll always be watching over you! I can watch you from above, like how my papa’s watching me! He protects me from evil, and I can do the same for you!”

“So I won’t lose you if I leave?”

“Yup! Bonus; New friends.”

Bisib giggled a bit before continuing to walk alongside Bibimue.

"Hey, how's your draw?"

“What happened to you?”

“Rogue..”

“Ew. Is that why you’re so revolting?”

“I’m naturally ugly, but thanks.”

“Hey.”

“Shush Muddle, the adults are talking.”

“I don’t mind her talking.”

“Well I do.”

“Mom.”

Shut.”

“Here, you can talk to me about it.”

Lisumib lowered herself to Muddle’s level with a smile.

Muddle stared at her blankly for a few heartbeats before pointing over to the river beside them.

“Why is there a second mom?”

Lisumib gave a confused look, then gazed over at the river.

“Hun, there’s..nothing there.”

“Mom’s there. Why’s she running away from me?”

“Muddle, I’m right here.”

Muddle jumped, then spun around to look at Yayuta. She hissed, letting her ears they back against her head.

“Muddle! Cease this behaviour at once!”

“You’re not my mom!”

Muddle raised her tail defensively, lowering herself closer to the ground to prepare an attack.

“Yes I am! You listen to me now young lady or I’ll get your father!”

“STAY AWAY FROM FATHER!”

Muddle sprung at Yayuta, knocking her over with the amount of force. Muddle then tried to take a bite at her neck, but Lisumib quickly pulled her off.

“Muddle, Muddle! Hey! Calm down, it’s okay!”

Lisumib pulled the child in close and comforted her as Yayuta got back up.

“Let go of that rabid bunnil right now!”

“No, she’s just scared!”

Muddle buried her head into Lisumib’s fur so she didn’t have to listen to the rest of the argument.

She’s gone… Mom’s gone… Where’d mom go?..

After everybody said their goodbyes, the nichelings on the ports began to hop the stones. Lisumib took one last look back at Bibimue and smiled.

“I love you, Bibi.”

She then turned and headed after the rest.

The group arrived at a new island, the smell of a jungle in the distance.

Everyone flooded off of the ports, finding spots to settle down for the night and having some conversations amongst themselves to pass the time.

Everyone seemed to avoid Hickory and Trust, mostly because they didn’t trust the two.

“Hey Trust, want a berry?”

“No. You know my fate.”

“Okay. Want a leaf?”

“Sure.”

Hickory plucked a leaf off of the bush beside him, handing it to Trust and watching as he violently devoured the poor specimen.

“What if I squirt a berry into your mouth so you don’t have to choke?”

“No.”

“I’m gonna do it.”

“Don’t.”

Hickory plucked a berry with a smirk. “Doin’ it.”

Hickory.”

Hickory forced Trust’s mouth open and then squirted the berry into his mouth.

Trust swallowed and then gave a disgusted look. “That tasted terrible.”

“Well now you know!” Hickory smiled and planted a small peck on the tip of Trust’s nose.

“You are a nuisance.”

“Glad to be!”

"We should spice things up somehow... But what would add flavour?"

“Hey, that one has a bunch of spots!”

“And this one has horns!”

“Yes, Amber has horns… And Lime has spots. What about it?”

“They’re pretty! Can I touch one of the horns?”

Please don’t touch my baby.”

Lisumib cleared her throat and looked at the children surrounding the nests.

“We’re trying to take care of our new children at the moment, do you think you could find something else to occupy yourselves?”

“Yup!”

“Okay mom!”

“Of course.”

Bisib, Muddle, and Yolk all turned and walked away, off to find something to entertain them.

“What are you three doing?”

Muddle and Yolk turned to see Yeti glaring at them.

“We’re using berries to draw on Bisib’s face!”

“That’s our food supply you little fly! Stop using it for stupid reasons!”

“You have berries on your face too!”

“No he doesn’t?”

“Yes he does!”

“Doesn’t!”

“Does!”

Yeti brought a paw up and clawed at one of Muddle’s eyes.

“SHUT UP! If you keep squabbling then you’ll lose an eye.”

He flicked his tail in annoyance before turning back to his berry bush.

Muddle tried to ignore the pain in her eye as she did her best to try and pick berries. Yolk helped her, though neither of them said a word.

“Hickory, you’re going to get sick..”

“I don’t care. I’m not leaving Ensure to the birds, that’s just squiddlydaush!”

“That’s not even a word.”

“I don’t care! I can handle being sick, but not leaving a child!”

“Hickory..”

“You can leave, I don’t care, but I’m staying.”

Trust sighed and set his head down at the edge of the nest.

“I’m not leaving… But if you die from this then I’ll be sadder than before I met you.”

“You were actually happier then.”

Hickory curled around Ensure, putting his head down and drifting off to sleep.

"Hey, want to add a special little treat for the watchers?"

“Berries… They smell odd.” Amber held a berry above his own head, sniffing and staring at it.

“Please just eat.”

“Not yet mother, I am studying.”

“Well stop studying so you can eat!”

“I cannot eat until I have finished studying.”

“Well how long does it take to study it?”

“Long enough to make you ask questions.”

“Can you shtop zhat?..”

“Yeah, stop arguing! It’s annoying!”

“Milo!”

Please stop arguing?”

“Better.”

Amber finally ate the berry, which caused a few breaths of relief from the others.

“Tangy.”

He looked over at Lime, who had been chewing on one of his paws.

“How does your meal taste?”

“Good.”

“Alright.”

He then turned to look at Milo, who was staring at the others with a confused look.

Milo popped a berry into her mouth and quickly swallowed it.

Amber shrugged and looked around before walking away.

“Hey, Yam, how’re you doing?”

“Mom.. Where’s mom?.. I want mom..”

“Okay then… How about a berry?”

“Berry.. Does mother like berries?”

“Sure!”

Yam quickly swooped up a berry and bit into it. She didn’t seem to like it, but she ate the rest of it.

“Did I make mother happy?”

“Uhm… Yes!”

Yam smiled and ate another berry. Poor girl.

“Why do you keep following us?”

“You think I’m staying behind with all those cubs? Nope.”

“You’re a cub.”

“No I’m not. Stop accusing me of stuff that never happened.”

“You act like a cub.”

“Do you want to lose your other eye?”

“That’s what I thought.”

Lolan awoke and looked down at a limp Lisumib.

“Hey, wake up.”

“Lisu, wake up!”

Lolan shook Lisumib, but there was no response.

“Lisu?”

Lolan stopped to look her over, and she found teeth marks around her neck.

“Oh.. Oh no…”

"I know an old friend. Jaybrid, they call him? There's a few traditions that we may be able to.. Adapt to?"

“He’s so small!”

“Yeah, some cubs are like that.”

“He’s cute. He’ll be known as Amulet.”

“Alright. And Hickory… Be careful around him.”

“He’s a cub, there’s no need to worry! I’ll be okay, don’t worry your pretty little head.”

Hickory smiled and laid down, curling around Amulet. He soon went to rest, and Trust glared at the child.

No you won’t.

“What’s wrong?” Ensure was worried. Was something wrong with his fathers?

“Don’t worry, Ensure, dad’s fine…”

Ensure stared at Amulet for a few moments before cracking open an acorn. He carefully fed a piece of the insides to Amulet before taking the rest for himself.

“Oh hey, there’s some ports!”

“Move over, I’m not staying in this horrid jungle area.”

“Stop being so rude, the cubs are here!”

“Hi.” Lime was chewing on his paw again, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t introduce himself!

Milo stayed silent, staring up at Bisib in confusion.

“Are they okay?”

“Probably not, but we are never to underestimate a cub!”

Yeti had gone to the back of the ports to try and stay away from the incoming nichelings, but a huge tongue curled up around him and pulled him in.

“Yeti!”

“He deserves it.”

“That doesn’t mean we get to not do anything! C’mon!”

“Okay, okay!”

Bisib nudged Lime, who then jumped forward and clawed at the plant. Bisib followed him and did his best to attack it, though he didn’t have the best effect on it.

Muddle looked over at the plant, but then turned to the berry bush and continued trying to pick the berries. Yam also joined in with picking berries.

Lolan had sprung forward out of seemingly nowhere and pried the plant open with pue force. Yeti tumbled out, scratches littering his sides. He looked up to see Bisib, and he growled.

“This is your fault. The cubs just HAD to be on the ports, didn’t they?”

“It’s your fault for being so bratty!”

“You’re the bratty one! Everything’s all about you, isn’t it?!”

“I’m not your reflection.”

Everyone went silent after that one. Yeah, Yeti was most definitely pissed off.

Amber smiled at the tension between the nichelings. It was a nice breakfast to him.
