The scent grew stronger the closer you got. You could soon see the faint dark green of a frog, almost camouflaged entirely with it's surroundings. The roll was when your opponent stood on their hind paws, in a motion that they were going to attack you, but before they drop back onto all four, you would roll under them and knock them off balance.
