Once she had gotten ready, she went back outside her room.

She headed for the front door.

Your mother gave you one of her fake smiles as she passed you. It was the only sort of smile you ever saw on the faces of adults. Their eyes never smiled, just their mouth.

She exited the house, and started walking.

The chill of early fall was in the air. The world looked...bland as ever. At least the birds were still singing. Soon they would leave for the winter. You walked down the sidewalk.

She looked down as she walked, not really feeling too confident at the moment.

You followed the familiar route to the bus stop. Other kids were already there. They weren't really familiar to you...you had only ever hung out with your best friend and she was gone now.

She hung out somewhere a little ways away from the other kids, but not too far.

Two girls were talking together. The other 3 kids were nearby eachother and occasionally spoke. Another boy arrived via the sidewalk. His hair was dyed purple and he wore a pollo shirt and cords.

She got on the bus, satisfied.

You were first on the bus for once. You looked around for a good place to sit. The two benches nearest the front were filled up. Behind them a few benches had one spot open. In the middle there was a completely free bench. You couldn't see all the way to the back clearly.

She went to the completely empty seat.

She looked out the window.

You saw buildings flying past. Subdivisions. But there was nobody strolling on the sidewalks or standing in their yards. Occssionally someone was mowing their lawn.
