Attempt at Version 2.0 of A Honestly Very Hard Challenge (AHVHC) by Sky

You've probably heard of the AHVHC by Sky (a.k.a. Skysplash).

I am attempting this challenge and posting my progress in the playthroughs (https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/13921-a-honestly-very-hard-challenge-ahvhc-attempt/). Sky responded to this post and said that there's a new, unreleased 2.0 version of AHVHC! Naturally I had to give it a go.

Here is Sky's comment:

 

The main differences are in the starting female's genetics and the life spans (shorter).

In this first run through, I wasn't able to stick to the rule where you cannot attack predators. Each day counts more so than before in this faster AHVHC, so I needed to make it count. If I do another playthrough, I'd try and see if not attacking predators would be doable.

? Arrives on an island all by her lonesome. She is a lovely orange colour, and has beautiful yellow eyes. Let’s call her Maple.

How did Maple get there? Even she doesn’t know. Is it amnesia? She doesn’t have much time to consider the possibilities, as it is getting dark, and she doesn’t have much food or nesting material.

She wanders through the tall grass, to the oak tree. Unfortunately, she cannot pick up acorns, and her no paw limits what she can get with just a runner’s leg. Luckily, she finds a berry bush to gather from before she runs low on food.

 

Miraculously, she smells another creature in the thicket, behind her new berry bush. Is it a rogue? A bearyena?

 

She inches towards the creature to find that it is a male of her species. A male named Unskuhskli. He’s an interesting creature with one bird-like wing, and one nimble finger. His spikes and dots, as well as his very big nose are very attractive.

 

Maple becomes pregnant, and they wait for their baby to be born.

But they could never have predicted what happened next.

Ooh, lucky! I always end up either finding a really young male or nothing at all and end up with rogue male babies 😅

Maple and her new partner mate, and after about 3 days, she has her first child. A beautiful yellow boy named Ukkuipo, with the same face as her hubby, but a very warm body. He has his father’s nimble paw, and his mother’s runner’s paw.

They then meet a beautiful short-snouted wanderer named Uckjudhe. Maple invites him into the tribe, and he takes care of their children while the blue bird of prey is above.

Maple has another son, Gujku, who has the same face as her hubby and sharp spines. He is much darker than his brother overall.

Suddenly, a bearyena bursts into the scene from the north. Everyone is startled and instinctually run away. He will surely kill them all, they think. Uckjudhe attacks the bearyena, and flees, hoping to attract his attention.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

The bearyena succeeds. Uckjudhe is dead. But everyone is safe. They flee into the tall dry grass slightly to the east.

Maple has another son. But the bearyena is hot on their trail. They need to run. So they go northeast and then west, leaving the two babies behind.

The second son is killed by the bearyena. A rogue appears. So much is going on at once. Maple finds another nest to have her fourth child, since her hubby is getting old. Their first son comes with them to escape from the bearyena.

The third son is dead and Unskuhskli dies from old age. They wonder if their time will come soon.

But not all hope is lost. Maple has a beautiful baby girl as her fourth child. Surely she’ll carry the hope of the tribe. However, they’re not out of the woods just yet. Maple smells another bearyena to the west. They must head north.

Perhaps they can get out of this situation to live another day if they simply believe.

Ukkuipo is now an adult. As the head of the family, Maple tells him to take his sister and go north. Surely they can live better if they run away from the bearyenas in the south.

Maple smells another familiar scent. It’s a wandering female named Eshyow, who has melanism and a derp snout. She invites her in as a partner for her son, helping the three of them get away from the bearyenas and putting herself in harm’s way.

Sadly, Maple was killed by the bearyena. The tribe of three head north. Fortunately, Ukkuipo finds a nest with a dodomingo in it. Now if only it would just leave the nest!

 

The daughter (one wing) was brutally killed by a bearyena during their escape to the north. Ukkuipo and Eshyow try to have their first child while being pursued by the bearyenas. A rogue male enters their territory and harasses them.

It rains, and they rejoice because their food had been running low! Eshyow shoos the rogue male with her sharp claws, and Ukkuipo gathers as much food as he can carry.

They have a daughter named Feynni, a yellow derp-snouted child with one claw and one runner’s paw.

They suspect they may have to run again because of the faint scent of bearyena fur. A crabbit mockingly occupies her nest.

The bearyena has caught up. Is this a new one, or the same one? Either way, they must flee immediately and leave behind their new home. Eshyow gives the bearyena a good slap and runs away.

Will our small tribe survive? Stay tuned for this slightly scuffed AHVHC 2.0 😂

Part 5.

The bearyena retreats! They also discover a new friend, a male named Rkyedheju (the pale yellow one on the right). But they’re low on food. They’ll certainly die at this rate if they don’t do something.

 

They find a new berry bush, and keep watch as a baby bearyena patrols the southern area. Ukkuipo and Eshyow have a second child, a son named Dhephud. He has a derp snout and a funny little peacock tail!

Now that Eshyow has only a few days left in her, she kills the closest bearyena she sees with her 2 sharp claws, making him neatly fall into a pile of meat. (Oops, not strictly conforming to the AHVHC rules, again.) But we need this food!

 

Yet another bearyena appears. They really can’t seem to catch a break. They decide to flee south, despite yet another bearyena there. Eshyow hits him twice, but he doesn’t fall. They wait until the next day.

Eshyow dies from old age, and Rkeyheju is targeted and killed afterwards. (We survived thanks his sacrifice!) Now it’s just Ukkuipo and his two children.

They must escape safely.

 

For some reason, the bearyena goes right past the three of them, they run to the west immediately as to not be detected.

 

There, they meet Ukkuipo’s second partner, Aeplnie, a lovely red derp snout with one no paw (just like his mother).

The bearyena is in hot pursuit and they must find a new source of food. They settle for the night in a jungle-like area, nervously waiting for the next day...

Feynni catches a rabbit, and they all feast on berry and meat. In this seemingly safe new home. A rogue male decides to pester them a bit.

 

Somehow, Aeplnie gives birth to a beautiful big-nosed baby girl, Eplaeslepl. It is raining this day, so her nickname will be “Rain”.

 

Feynni finds a permanent nest and more berries. So does Rain. Dhephud shoos away a rogue male from his sister. Just a normal day in hell.

 

Another rainy day, another beautiful orange baby girl with big nose. This one has nimble paw and no paw, so her nickname will be Beryl. Her full name is Fayfeyapl. Rain almost gets taken by a bird of prey. Close call. Dhephud leaves his sister to babysit his new half-sisters.

Dhephud finds a wandering female, Hieshslyo, who was tempted by the smell of berries in their territory. This beauty is now his partner.

 

Aeplnie has her third daughter with Ukkuipo, who looks exactly like her older sister. Her nickname is “Gemini”. Feynni attacks her rogue male suitor, and the family seems to be doing well, for now.

The dreaded day arrived. Ukkuipo has died from old age. But Aeplnie is pregnant with yet another child, and Hieshslyo is pregnant with her first.

Hieshslyo had a dream. She had a beautiful cream-coloured baby girl with horns, but she suddenly disappeared. In another dream, he had a blind baby. This filled her with a lot of unease for her first baby. Everything must be perfect.

 

They have their first child, a beautiful baby girl with grey ram horns and brown dots. Her name is Aeslaplnni, and her nickname is “Hope”.

 

Now Aeplnie had strange dreams. He dreamed she had another orange baby girl. In a few other dreams it was a derp-snouted baby boy with a no paw. In another, the baby disappeared. This had never happened to her with her other daughters. Was this a sign?

The days passed. Aeplnie had her first son. A boy named Lidhe. Perhaps her worries were unfounded after all.

A bearyena came from the east. Luckily, Aepline, Feynni, and Dhephud were equipped for the task of bringing him down, and they collected the spoils from their fallen foe.

 

Another rainy day, another baby. Dhephud’s first son’s name is Wyuyed, and he looks a lot like Lidhe, who is technically his half-uncle, except he has strong brown ram horns.

 

The next morning, Rain feels very tired and sluggish. Did she eat too much the previous night? Or perhaps it was from spending the night in the swampy area, where all the Snoozeflies swarmed. Either way, she would not be able to do very much today.

Besides Rain, as well as Wyuyed and Lidhe, who are still just babies, everyone else was able to pick up some berries for the next day.

The subsequent day, Hieshyslyo and Dhephud had their second son, Unskuesh. He had cream fur like the rest of his family, but had his mother's snout. They wanted their second son to have a different name than the rest of the tribe. They used the names of wanderers who had joined the tribe, Unskuhskli and Eshyow, and combined them into a name to honour their legacy.

 

Lidhe and his mother Aeplnie stumble across a beautiful wanderer named Eileithyia! They quickly ask her to join their tribe and she agrees.

Naturally, Lidhe takes a fancy to Eileithyia. Perhaps they would be a good couple?

 

A bearyena sneaks up and ambushes Hieshslyo. She calls out for help, and her mate, Dhephud, as well as Feynni and Aeplnie come to her rescue. Wyuyed and Unskuesh move back to safety, only separated from the bearyena by the adults.

 

Hieshslyo and Dhephud are both killed by the bearyena, leaving poor Unskuesh by his lonesome. His sister, Hope, rushes to his side while Aeplnie and Feynni fight off the bearyena.

 

Meanwhile, a rogue male inches himself towards Beryl. Her brother swats him away as a sign that he should leave immediately.

 

Aeplnie and Feynni, having just lost the leader of the tribe, Dhephud, were now in charge of the tribe. As mothers themselves, they felt pity for the baby bearyena that was left behind. They were also not lacking in food, so they invited the baby to stay with them. Perhaps he will be an assist to them in the future, or maybe their downfall?

 

The rogue male approaches Beryl again. He's very persistent, but Lidhe take another swat at him, and the rogue bolts.

This island is absolutely crawling with bearyenas. This time, it targeted the youngest! Unfortunately for her, she chose the centre of the tribe, so the adults quickly defeated her.

 

Unskuesh grows up, and Feynni and Aeplnie, who are now co-leaders of the tribe, can be seen pampering their new "pet".

However this peace was not to last...
