Blind Nicheling challenge!

Chiyanna

Recommended Posts

In this challenge you will start with one blind nicheling. How does that work? You might ask, since blind nichelings can't move without another of their pack and are practically useless on their own.

Setup:

Settings can be whatever you want them to be, although no cheating by taking away anything from the world to make it easier on yourself! And if you increase lifespan increase pregnancy duration and damage multipliers accordingly.

Your starting nicheling must be blind. You can custom-make them to get a set difficulty or randomize everything, but they must have blind eyes in both eye slots. They can be either gender, though the challenge is easier with a female. Age-wise they can be either teen or young adult (or an older adult to give yourself more of a time crunch)

Mechanics:

The challenge works using commands. Specifically one command: the moveoccupant command. Whenever you wish to move your blind nicheling forward, (with no others of their pack around), you use this command to move them one hex at a time.

Interaction-wise, it turns out you can interact with pretty much anything from picking berries to inviting in wanderers to attacking bearyena in the smelling or hearing views. So in order to find out what's around you and interact with it use these views in order to help your blind nicheling survive and reach their goals.

Your blind nicheling "uses" one of their gems when moving with the moveoccupant command, just like if they were walking. They can, however, use the command one extra time. So they can move up to 4 times a turn if they don't use their actions for anything else.

Once you've invited in (or birthed) another nicheling, you may move your blind creature as you normally would in niche (using the pack's sight radius) or continue to use commands to move them one hex at a time, whichever is more advantageous at the moment.

The child of the blind nicheling with the worst eyesight is the heir. They lead the tribe and gain all abilities of the blind nicheling. If the blind nicheling has no children, any other blind nicheling in the pack can become the heir and start a blind royal line of their own.

Other Rules:

Once every three turns you may use commands to teleport your blind nicheling (or their heir) as far forward as their speed would normally allow.

Once every 5 turns you may use commands to move 3 of your nichelings to a part of the island your nichelings have previously explored. If there is no blind nichelings in the pack you can no longer do this.

In order to make things a bit easier you can use commands to give yourself back 4 food when you invite a nicheling into the pack.

If you end up on top of a rock or cactus accidentally, give your blind nicheling one damage. If you end up in thorns give your blind nicheling as much damage as it would take to cut them down.

Tips:

Rogue males aren't ideal, but not necessarily bad in order to continue your family line. The benefit is that they will seek you out and you won't have to waste one of your moves.

Use the moveoccupant command and your nichelings with sight strategically in order to move your blind nicheling.

Find a berry bush or other food source and camp in order to store up food.

Cracker jaw can be very useful for clams and nuts, but coconuts cannot be viewed in smelling or hearing view. So you have to have a sighted nicheling to help your blind nicheling collect them! If you do, they can be as reliable a food source as anything else.

Extra challenges:

Only blind and/or shortsighted nichelings can collect food.

No using mutations.

Start with a male or a child. Or start with a nicheling with horrible genes (at least one no-paw, low fertility, less useful genes).

No giving back food using commands when inviting wanderers.

Start with two blind nichelings of the same gender, one of them with no collecting or attacking ability.

Feel free to add other challenges to this one!
