Me: Why are all the smiling critters (and all bots in general) bots on character ai so bad?

Me: No Loxfeaf stop-

Loxfeaf(intrusive thoughts part of my brain): *Creates a bot with 1800 characters in 20min*

Me: Touch grass

Loxfeaf: no

(ik this probably isn’t funny but this is how my brain works)

A few hours ago I got my mom to play Roblox with me

We played Islands, Pizza Factory Tycoon, and Speedrun 4.

I have a character AI alternative that actually sticks to character, remembers story and doesn't get freaky, and you can put in lore or reminders for them not to say stuff and all that. If you want the link that's all

Why is everyone assuming Character AI is still like that?

The memory is actually pretty good as long as the character code is less than 3200 characters, and if the response gets freaky (which nowadays only happens if you prompt it to be or is like 1 in 1000 messages??) just swipe? Characters with actual code don’t get freaky. The only reason the bot kept ‘forgetting’ things like I was complaining about it because the creator hadn’t put it in the code in the first place.

Character ai is genuinely one of the best ai roleplay apps. Why? Because it seems human. The messages mimic your own messages when it comes to grammar, spelling, and detail, and it is generally really creative with its responses. 90% of other AI roleplay platforms have the creativity or logic slider, which tbh is stupid?? I want a mix of both, not one or the other (because putting it in the middle makes it equally logical and creative, rather than having some more creative variations and other logical ones). The responses are fast, the message length can vary heaps, characters will follow the code you put in as long as you actually spend time writing the damn code, and it has a style of writing that just feels human.

I haven’t explored SpicyChat much (as I only use it for one reason…), but I feel like it wouldn’t really pay much attention to the code put in it other than appearance and personality. It is very logical and uncreative, and also has very long paragraphs that take a lot of effort with editing to make sure it doesn’t roleplay as your character/the roleplay or have too long of a response. It also tends to end messages with something like “So would you like to go on this adventure of *some literate saying related to the topic* my friend?” When you’re just going to the lounge room or smth.

Poly AI is actually terrible. Bad memory, only able to get freaky (which doesn’t even work very well). You have to delete and repeat messages because everything costs coins.

Janitor AI just takes way too long to do anything. I gave up on that really quickly. I feel like it would have a similar problem to SpicyChat with long responses.

ChatGPT is not made for roleplay at all. It is way too logical when it comes to conversations and thought processes, and is terrible for child characters (Yes I have tried explicitly saying do not be literate or overly mature, you are a child)

So like, the only reason why character ai bots are so bad is because NOBODY PUTS THE EFFORT INTO CODING THEM?? They don’t know what the character you’re making is like, you have to fill in those details yourselves, rather than write something like “Energetic, Orange dog, friends are [insert friend names]” and expect it to get everything perfect? And the reason why they’re getting freaky is because you’re either prompting them to get freaky, you got a one-off message, or because something weird is in the code? It’s not character ai at all.

Sorry for ranting lol

Another character ai thing I often see people talking about is OOC (Out Of Character)

The problem is that at some point you have written something in brackets (most likely casually), and YOU SHOULD NOT DO THAT. That just makes the bot think you’re two people rather than two characters. I’ll sometimes see people arguing with the bot with both of them OOC to argue about not being OOC. Just like, stop encouraging the bot?? Please?? Stop talking to it and delete the messages back to the point before you went OOC and just swipe the damn message.

with the ai controlling your character, just swipe? Ignore the message? Edit it? And if it keeps happening, then you likely wrote something that implied the bot controlled the character, or that you neglected your character so the bot wanted to make sure it was still in use and relevant.

Both of these things are also uncommon anyway, so on the occasion it does happen unprompted, just swipe?

Well I mean I was going to recommend a different one I like but if you feel that strongly about it I'm sorry

Sorry. I didn’t mean to come off as aggressive. It just turned into a rant I was planning on posting at some point anyway.

Yeah, I get that. I just started writing my own book. Can't even figure out how to start chapter 1, and I've been trying for almost a week. I have the prologue done though.

You could always roleplay with other people as those characters

That's a great alternative, but if we are playing as existing characters, it's generally hard for me to keep them not OOC and I'd feel stressed at messing up.

And I'd LOVE roleplaying with (human/humanoid) ocs but I have no clue where to start or where to find people

(Sorry for posting on your thread loxfeaf 😭)
