i remember at the time i was watching a lot of videos from a youtuber named jessimew who used to do a bunch of niche videos but mysteriously disappeared off of social media without any announcement or anything. i was curious about what happened to her so i looked it up and found a thread on the forums talking about her, and then i looked around the rest of the forums and joined later on

I was obsessed with Niche at the time but i never saw the in-game link for some reason. Instead I was looking up ‘Niche memes’ and my young self was incredibly baffled that there were so few of them compared to other games (wow! Niche is an unpopular game! who could’ve guessed?) but the few I DID find were on this forum

lmao my homophobic character arc happened before I was on the internet and I just didn’t understand what it really was (in the sense that I didn’t geniunley hate anyone I was just immature and thought the word gay was funny)… I distinctly remember sitting with my irl friend giggling about how not gay we were (I had a crush on her afterwards)

Mine was really weird. I first learned the word gay from vandalism on a bird watching tower, where someone had engraved "if you read this you're gay" (well the Finnish equivalent) and the way it was formatted made it sound like a bad thing. Eventually my mom explained there was nothing wrong with being gay and after that I was perfectly okay with irl gay couples but for some reason continued to think it was bad for animal characters to be gay for a few years.

By the time I joined the forums I was mostly over that too, but it took plenty of time and exposure to get over the "don't make it your whole personality ugh/why do you need to bring it up??" mindset

After that I had the lingering fear of secretly being homophobic for years because I didn't like shipping and 99% of non-canon ships in the Warriors fandom were gay while 99% of canon ones were straight. Then I joined the Transformers fandom and discovered I dislike straight ships just as much (and also didn't mind the canon gay couples)
