spiky body adds defense

Just a small thing, but wouldn't it make more sense for the spiky body to add defense instead of strength? Animals that have quills or otherwise spiky bodies use their spikiness as a form of defense, not as a weapon

Pictured below, from top to bottom, is a hedgehog, a porcupine, a thorny devil, a puffer fish and some sea urchins, all animals that use spikiness as a defense mechanism

one thing though Birds are cool, the porcupine can back up into predators to prick them, basically making that offense, though I agree the spiky body is a bit nonsensical because you don't get your damage reduced by presumable hard quills, but by only with thick hide(big body), bony dermal armor(armored body) or even big arms(mammut foot)

But they don't actively seek out a fight. They may utilize their quills in an offensive manner when being attacked, but they are doing so to protect themselves, which therefore makes it a defense mechanism
