Targeted magnets

Post

A sort of effect like the proximity sensor with ranges from a 360 degree area to a line, You could pply a repulsion or attraction effect to these, but only one at a time, meaning that they would be less versatile than the magnets push/pull wise. They could also have a slider that varies power consumption and the actual power of the effect in them, allowing you to create more powerful effects. Maybe more power used depending on area covered by the effect?

In the meantime, we have lasers to play baseball with. And yes, lasers are actually used to push things around, even if said things are atoms or very particular contraptions.

Though this solution only works for alien creatures or objects, and lost parts of one's craft.

Yes, one of my favorite weapons is the "keep away beam", a 4-split bio laser with pushing effect and super long range.  Nothing can swarm you.  Just three of them make large hives a cinch.

For carrying things, sucker beams are rather less careful than magnets;  Rogium boxes chatter all the way back to the carrier.  Sucker beams are great for scrap, since magnets transfer force both ways while beams do not.
