Survival of the Fittest

TheCrazyDragonLady

Post

This would be a new game mode called Survival of the fittest.

In this game mode, you would have to survive a series of natural and unnatural human-caused events while trying to find a Specific Island that is immune to these disasters. This game mode would reflect how in real life animals need to adapt quickly to new conditions caused by humans for survival.

There would be a group of disasters that would happen on most of the islands in the game, whereas there will be some exclusive to each island.

When you start the game, you can adjust how many times one of these events happen.

Easy = Every 200 days

Normal = Every 100 days

Hard = Every 50 days.

Each event will have a different duration.

Now onto these events: (FYI: These are meant to be difficult, as this would be a very difficult gamemode to survive through and win, but if they seem impossible to survive then I will adjust them) Also please suggest any other events that come to mind that would work.

Non-exclusive events

Pesticide/Bio-magnification

(Snow islands are immune)

Farmers or inhabitants have started spraying the plants with pesticide!

In this event, your creatures will be vulnerable to poisoning from pesticides.

They have a high chance of being poisoned if they eat berries from berry bushes. Trees would be safe to eat from (I'm a bit unsure if people spray pesticides on their trees) and there would be a low chance of being poisoned from eating rabbils or stag moles. When consuming large carnivorous animals like bearynas, (or feeding from man-eating plant fruit)  there would be a medium chance of being poisoned. Poisonous nichlings are still vulnerable to the pesticide.

This event would end halfway through the days you have until the next event. Eg: If you are on normal mode, it would end after 50 days.

Volcanic/Bomb explosion

(Kind of speaks for itself… Most islands are vulnerable to this event)

There have been a large volcanic/bomb explosion!

In this event, ash covers the whole island. The water is an oily black, and it is difficult to see, hear, or smell anything.

Any nicheling out in the open have a chance of being buried under the ash, and if are not saved quickly will suffocate in the ash. Nichelings under trees or in deep water are safe from the ash. Any water breathing nichelings in shallow water also have the chance of being buried or suffocating from the ash in the water.

-1 hearing, -1 smelling, -1 sight

-3 heat to the environment

This event would have a similar duration to the pesticide event, lasting for half the time between events. Most of the plants on the island have died, as have the larger organisms (Rabbils and stag moles would probably survive as they would just hide in their burrows). Over these days, the area will get very cold, and then will slowly get warmer as it nears the end of its duration. Ash will slowly deteriorate and break down over this time as well. The bright side to this event is afterwards, the ash has supplied nutrients to the soil. Plant growth and regeneration (Ie. Regeneration of berries, nuts, ect) is boosted until the next event

Acid rain

(Caused from pollution. Snow islands and savanna are somewhat immune)

A rainstorm passing overhead has large amounts of sulphur and carbon-monoxide (I think that's right) in it! In this event, it will rain for 2-3 days and will seem find for a few days afterwards. However, the trees and berry bushes will slowly start to produce less and less berries. Any kind of fish are very rare, the eggs being killed from the acidic water. Most insects such as snails or ant hills are rare as well, however the amount of bad flies (the sleeping-sickness ones) increase’s hugely. Water is dangerous to be in, and any water-breathing nichelings have a chance of being poisoned from swimming in it. These effects last until half the time between events has gone by.

Nuclear factory malfunction

(All islands are vulnerable)

A nearby nuclear power factory malfunctioned and exploded. Large amounts of radiation is in the surrounding area, as well as is affecting nearby islands (Yours!)

In this event, there is large amounts of radiation affecting the islands you are on, as well as other islands to the west and east ports.

Any already sick, old or unhealthy nichelings have a high chance of being killed or being made sick by the radiation over the island. There is an increased chance of mutating no-paw, blindness, low or no fertility, Albinism/melanism  or haemophilia. However, there is a low chance babies will mutate a random beneficial gene, such as round ears, big body, poison fangs, ect. The only beneficial genes that would not be mutated would be the prehistoric genes.

The duration of this event would last extremely long, perhaps even lasting past 2 more events on this island. The only way to escape it early would be to go to the north port.

Exclusive events

(Need more ideas for these)

Deadwater

Exclusive to archipelago.

Polluted water is causing dead zones. (These are patches of water that have little to no oxygen in it) Grey oily patches will appear over the water around the floating islands. The largest a patch would be is 3x3 tiles. If a water-breathing nicheling swims into it, they will start to suffocate and take drowning damage. These patches will change every 5-10 days. This events duration would last until the next event.

Fair enough.  I just saw an article about how after an explosion, ash covered a portion of land. A type of white moth that lived there suddenly went missing, and then people realised that the same type of moth had mutated black colouring over time through natural selection, and I though that something like this would be interesting to implement.
