  • world's largest nocturnal primate
  • long-fingered lemur
  • has teeth like a beaver
  • native to Madagascar
  • endangered
  • barely ever come down to ground, usually in trees
  • omnivore
  • they tap on trunks with their special tapping-finger and listen to the echo to find chambers, then they use their special bug-grabbing finger to grab their grub.
  • uses echolocation, as shown above
  • females are superior to males
  • polygamous
  • thought to be extinct in 1933, rediscovered in 1957
  • often viewed as harbringer of evil and killed on sight
  • believed that if Aye-Aye points to someone with their special tapping-middle-finger, the person is marked for death
  • others say that presence of Aye-Aye in village = death of a villager, only prevention is to kill the aye-aye
  • even worse, one culture beleives they sneak into houses through thatched roofs and murder the sleeping occupants by... no, I won't go into details.
  • more here

Wasps and the like have a really bad memory (and hence fly into surfaces repeatedly). Truth, or myth?

Do spiders actually seek heat, or just avoid the cold? (Alternative title: would they really just crawl into your mouth?)

this was all i could find on the wasps thing

Wasps can remember each other after a busy week apart, according to new research. It’s a level of social memory never seen before in insects, which were long thought to be too small-brained for such a feat.

then for spiders, here's an article about them going into mouths. basically, spiders think we're scary especially when we're sleeping, so they wouldn't want to even go on our bed in the first place. And as for spiders who don't think we're scary, there's a lot of factors that would have to be just right for you to actually swallow the spider.

and for seeking heat/avoiding cold:

Spiders are "cold-blooded" and not attracted to warmth. They don't shiver or get uncomfortable when it's cold, they just become less active and eventually, dormant. (the article)
