~ We Are Made of Porcelain ~

Though the slightest swipe of a bearyena's claw

Will render us bleeding and dead upon the ground,

We are strong in other ways.

The Gods may send their storms, their rogues,

Their cold-hearted birds--

But we will not give up. Every time we fall,

Every time we fail, we will get back up.

We are made of glass, of china--

Of every breakable, fragile thing.

Throw us on the ground and we will surely be forgotten.

But a fragile thing that is loved can last forever.

We are made of porcelain. What is wrong with that?

(Ok I can’t post pics now but I will tomorrow I guess)

(also I apologize in advance for sucky storytelling)

Two lost souls. The last of their kind. They didn’t know where their tribe-mates had gone. Their used to be six of them, all together. The angry sea had taken them from the shoreline home one night, but four had been lost to sea, probably broken in the crashing waves. It was a mystery how these two even survived. They couldn’t remember any of it.

Glass and China. They hadn’t thought much of each other before, and though not enemies, and not too different in personality, they had one difference. Glass was a Present. He was calm and contemplative, always seeming so at peace with himself, level-headed, and never much caring for what was going on around him. China on the other hand was a Future. She was brilliant, forward thinking, and quietly dreamy. Her biggest issue though was her deep fear of everything to come. She could sense the future, but she desperately wished that she couldn’t. Every hint she received through her brain made her shiver and panic.

But what both of them longed for was just a peek of the past they had forgotten. Where did they come from? Who were their tribe mates, their family, and where were they? Why were they here, on this tiny island? Creatures so young and naive cannot answer these questions just yet.

“Do you know where we are?” China glanced worriedly from side to side, tearing away at the tall grass that was shrouding her vision.

“We were...in the sea...” Glass fought to recall everything he had experienced. “And now we are here on an unfamiliar island.”

“Well I know that,” China sighed. “You are no help.”

”I’m not One of The Past.”

"Look over here! A berry bush!" Glass calls out. China glances his way and her stomach rumbles. She hasn't eaten anything all day. But then she senses something in the water.

"Look out for the--" China begins before she hears a squelch. But the leech slowly slid off his slippery skin by itself and fell dead into the water.

"That's strange," China mumbles.

"Come and eat," Glass repeats. China scurries over and eats every last one of the berries. Then the pair fall fast asleep.

For many months following, it was a struggle to find food to stay alive. But one day, China murmured. "I sense a good food source. What can you sense?"

"Well I don't have antennae. I'm just a Present, after all." Glass chirped. But then he stiffened and sniffed the air. "Acorns!"

The two decide to settle down by the tree and make a den.1395887386_Screenshot(1085).thumb.png.1b7e8a74dc7368f698d6205bf30c11d1.png

The next day early in the morning, China jolts awake. "Something's coming!" She cries out. Glass opens his eyes groggily. "I'll panic when it starts attacking me."

Suddenly they hear a big SPLASH as the pair of nichelings are sprayed with the cool saltwater!

"AAAAAUUGH!" Glass shrieks. "PANIC!"

But China is laughing. "Look who's a scaredy now! It's just a bear jumping in for a swim!"

"Let's go talk to him." China marches up to the strange bear who is grunting (or singing perhaps?) happily in the shallow water. He turns to look at them.

"Hello, uh, Mister Bear," China stammers, suddenly tongue-tied.

"Why hallo there," replies the bear. "My name's Seaweed. A pleasure to meet you. And who might you be?"

"We're Glass and China, and we've come to ask you a favor," Glass responds.

"A favor?" China hisses in Glass' ear. "I just wanted to say hello!"

"Yeah, a favor." Glass says. "You see, well...um...I, I mean we--," He stutters worse than China did. "Well--me and China--we were hoping to have someone around to, uh..."

"Come on, spit it out!" China barks. She tries hard to foresee what he has to say, but it is all muddled up in her mind. The bear isn't agitated, but listens calmly and nods.

"Well, babysit."

"I'm not a baby!" China cries out. "What are you thinking, rabbil-brain!?"

"Oh no, not you," Glass can't help but break out into a wide grin. "Our child."

"Our...child?" China's jaw falls open.

"Of course! We're so busy with acorn picking, we might as well have someone look after it, keep it safe..."

"You're sounding like a Future!" China laughs.

"China...are you...okay with that?"

"Of course I am." China licks Glass on his cheek.

"And I'd be glad to help you folks out. You seem right nice. And you're lucky to have such a pretty little lady, too." Seaweed nods at Glass, who blushes.

"Here's some grass for your kindness. But I bet you'd prefer kelp. Sorry about that." China smiles as she hands him a tuft of grass with small flowers woven in.

After fond farewells and thank yous to Seaweed, China and Glass go back to their den and make out and stuff.

The next few days seem to last forever. China wades in the shallow water, thinking about her unborn baby. What kinds of things could await them in life? How long would they last? China could not see that far ahead. It was although she was losing her ability.

Meanwhile, Glass continues cracking nuts to provide for his family. Seaweed dives deeper into the ocean, blowing bubbles and singing happily, albeit very low and a bit off-key.

One day, not too long after, China goes into labor. "Help! Help! Glass! Seaweed! Somebody!!!" She gasps. But both are too far away to hear her.

(AAAAH I love that book but I already named him beforehand. You can name the next babu though)

Glass finally hears her calls and comes running to find her K.O.'d. Childbirth was hard on her.

"China, wake up." Glass shakes her gently. The slightest twinge of worry for his mate grips him.

"Oh Glass...you came..." China wakes up and lifts her head to look up at him weakly. "Look at our son." She brushes away her feathered tail to reveal the beautiful green-and-white kit. Atop his head are his mother's antennae; the gift of a Future.

"He's so beautiful, just like you," Glass smiles at his mate. China smiles back. "What should we name him?" China murmurs, gently licking her child's soft white mane.

"Ceramic," Glass replies.

"Perfect," China breathes a sigh of happiness. The two curl up together and sleep after a long day of acorn picking and giving birth.

Seaweed stops by for a visit. "Hey folks, beautiful cub you have there!"

"Thank you," China blushes slightly. "We were hoping you could watch him for us."

"'Course I will! Every living creature here's scared of me for miles around. I won't let no bearyena near the little guy! But a bear's gotta swim....how 'bout ya just call for me if ya need anything."

"Thank you so much," Glass smiles warmly. He then picks up a few acorns. China stays near the nest, watching Glass silently.
