Directional Sensor, how do they work please?

Directional sensors point either to your cursor or to gravity at all times.  If that pointer (the small black circle) is within either of the red sections, the corresponding key is pressed.  This can be used to make self-stabilizing drones, by wiring the drone to turn itself when it's tilted too much.

Alternately, you can use it to make mouse-piloted drones, by moving the drone in a direction when the cursor is that direction, or always turning the drone to face the mouse cursor, to target weapons and to direct thrust as you maneuver.

To make a gravity-based sensor that stabilizes your drone, just plop one down in your design.  One output should be the key you use to tilt the drone right and the other left.  Dump it into the test area, and the drone should always face up.  Or down, if you have them backward.
