  1. "That's great! But..." Iris looked over at Lockwood. "I don't know if he'd be willing to go down there again."
  2. Iris coughed and spit out his bread. "Why didn't you say so? Is there enough for everyone?"
  3. Iris shrugged. "It's either charred food or no food at all. Almost all of the town's farms were destroyed in the attack, this is all Lynx could find."
  4. Iris ripped the loaf in half. "We'll split it." He put the less-charred bit in Lockwood's hands and sat down, nibbling on the loaf.
  5. Iris grabbed the least-charred piece of bread he could find and offered it to Lockwood. "It's the least charred part I could find."
  6. Iris turned back to look at Moeruhime. "Ok! I think there's some half-charred bread and some meat rations. Take whatever you want." Iris looked back at Lockwood nervously. "You too."
  7. Iris turned to look at Lockwood. “I’m so sorry, I thought you knew. Sorry, it’s my fault I shouldn’t have assumed you knew I should have told you. Sorry.”
  8. Iris broke the silence. “Uh, Lynx found some food while he was exploring earlier. You must be hungry, right?”
  9. Iris smiled. “Still trying to intimidate me, eh?”
  10. “Oh, hi Vivus! Hi Moeruhime! I’m so happy you’re alive!” Iris smiled.
  11. Before Lockwood could start reading, Iris noticed Moeruhime standing in the corner by a bushel of trees. “Moeruhime!” he cried, dropping his book and running over to where she was standing.
  12. Iris shrugged. “She gave one to me too. It looks like some kind of story, but I haven’t read it yet. Just thought I’d give it to you before I forgot or lost it.”
  13. Iris grabbed the notebook Vivus had given to him earlier. “Vivus wanted me to give this to you. I don’t know why, but here.” Iris handed the book to Lockwood.
  14. Iris sat down next to Lockwood. “Where did you go? I have something for you.” Iris began digging through his satchel.
  15. Iris sighed and stood up, wiping the tears from his eyes. “Welp, sulking about my losses isn’t going to change anything.” He began to walk back to camp when he saw Lockwood sitting on the edge of the base. Iris walked over. “Hi.”
  16. Iris smiled at Lynx and walked down to the ocean. It was dark out and he could barely see anything, but he didn't really care. He just needed a moment to think about the day's events. He didn't want to accept it, but part of him deep down knew that everyone else from the village had died... they had all died in order to protect them. Iris wiped the tears that were starting to fall down his cheek on his coat sleeve and sighed. "Why... why did this have to happen to them? They were all innocent..." Iris couldn't stop the tears.
  17. Iris snapped out of his daze and stood up. "I'm going to... go for a walk..."
  18. Iris turned to look at the fire again, his mind getting lost in his thoughts.
