  1. This is such a cool idea! And I really like the frog-rat design, though to be fair the original poster did say they would be part lizard so... maybe a bearded dragon? A monitor lizard might make more sense for the disease effect though

  2. Oh absolutely want stinger tail! Also like the tricky tail design, though not sure how well that specific mechanic would work. Maybe attracts the hits more, but with a 50% miss chance?

  3. I love this! I have an idea to add to the Flora list!

     

    Zombie/Parasite Fungus! They could infect your nicheling and turn them into a wandering rogue while simultaneously doing damage each day. They can't be healed by healing plants, either. Then when the infected nicheling dies a new fungus plant sprouts from the bones. This way you have to avoid getting infected in the first place to avoid spreading the plants!

     

  4. Quick question, but which beak is currently in game? I don't really count the platypus bill, since it's from a mammal.

     

    Other than that, I do like these ideas, seem like a good way to add that little bit more variety among the niche's.

    Platypus Bill is the only beak.

  5. I just thought of something that could tie in with Rogue Males! Maybe call them Rogue Females or Lonely Ladies? They could be like dodomingos and steal your nests, but only after breeding with your males, or maybe even breeding with Rogue  Males! Then the babies will be part of your tribe as the females go off to breed some more. Think of it as the niche version of a cuckoo; cuckoos lay their eggs in a stranger's nest and leave it there for the strangers to take care of.

     

    I think Rouge Females are a must but as trouble for the tribe. Rouge Females could fight Tribe Females for the nest, steal the nest and produce more rouges / non tribe animals, or even try to steal tribe babies if the baby is unattended, barren Rouge Females might try to steal babies for example.

     

    Even if you don't like my version I think you should add Rouge Females / Lonely Ladies as a new topic. :)

     

    Unfortunately I've already posted three topics, and that's the limit they told us in the rules xD So I can't, but if you haven't and you want to, go right ahead! I like your idea, by the way- especially the part about stealing babies! It shouldn't be like with the bluebird, though; you should be able to take the baby back if you kill her, like with Bearyenas.

  8. With the bearowl eyes, I assume you mean the first tiles in front of them would be dark? Or just unable to see anything in them? Because I don't think that would work with the current way the movement system works.

    The movement system allows blind nichelings to move where there are lit up areas and interact with bushes/acorns when you use the hearing or smelling modes. Thus I figure it's fine if the Farsighted Eyes make it so that the first tiles around your nicheling are dark while the three after that are lit up. They would still be able to smell and hear things right in front of them, so, for example, if you see a bunnel far away and want to pounce on it, you could still jump on top of it, then when it moves one step away into the dark zone, you switch to smelling or hearing mode to attack and gather it. <3

  9. Thank you!  ^^ Yeah, I meant Sharp Eyes; thanks for catching that typo! I'm working on them in the order they're listed, top to bottom, so the first that will be finished will be the Liotah. Question, though: should they all have manes, or should there be sexual dimorphism?

  10. I like the current ideas, but here's a way to tweak them that seems a little more in line:

    (Also I added fur colors since Bearyenas pass on the Moss Brown fur color, as well as behaviors since I think it might be important for the developers to have an idea of how they might behave in-game)

     

    Liotah: Cheetah/lion

    Habitat: Savannah

    Behavior: Same as bearyenas. You have to kill a mom and tame her male cub if you want to breed with one.

    Long Tail, longer and thinner than medium tail, +1 speed, +1 stealth, +1 heat resistance

    Liotah Legs, + 3 speed, +1 heat resistance

    Liotah Snout, short, whiskered, strong voice, and +2 strength

    Sharp Eyes, feline slitted, +3 sight.

    Armangolin: Armadillo/Pangolin

    Habitat: Jungle

    Behavior: Solitary, they wander aimlessly searching for food. They are like bunnels, able to move when you do, and will run away when you approach. There are no baby Armangolins in the wild. You can tame an adult male if you chase it down and feed it. From there it will no longer run away from you, but it will still roam around digging up roots so you'll have to chase it down to breed with it.

    Armangolin Paw, has longest claws of all paws, adds +1 digging, +1 cracking and +1 strength

    Armangolin Body, has that classic armadillo shell with scaly protrusions from the shoulders, +2 defense

    Armangolin Snout, has a long mouth like a pangolin, +1 digging, +1 defense, +3 smelling, *

    Armangolin Ears, +1 hearing, +1 defense

    Armangolin Hind legs, +1 digging

    Armangolin Tail, +1 defense

    Short sighted eyes, fur color red

    *This actually kind of matches one of the heads I suggested! I called it "Sticky Tongue" but if it was part of a hybrid set that's cool, too. My Sticky Tongue idea included the ability to gather from insect swarms, which, btw, would make sense with the Armangolin, since it probably likes eating insects.     Oxoat: Ox/Goat

    Habitat: Winter Biome (The snowy one that doesn't have greenery like the Mountain Biome)

    Behavior: They travel in groups of six, sometimes with a baby boy in the center that you can tame and breed with. They remain neutral until you get close if there is no baby, but if there is a baby they are always aggressive.

    Oxoat Horns, straight horns that angle up at the ends, +1 strength

    Oxoat Body, thick furry coat, +2 strength, +2 cold resistance, -1 Heat resistance

    Oxoat Legs, hooved feet, +1 strength, +1 speed, +1 cold resistance

    Oxoat tail, has a puffball at the end, +1 distasteful scent

    Oxoat Hind Legs, +1 strength, +1 speed, +1 cold resistance

    Oxoat Ears, floppy and fluffy, +2 hearing, +1 cold resistance

    Habitat: Mountain Biome (the one that has grass and trees and bushes but also has snow)(I chose this instead of swamp because it makes more sense given the two creatures the Manticoon is made of)

    Behavior: Same as Bearyenas. You have to kill a mom and tame her male baby if you want to breed with one.

    Antennae (Horn Slot), +2 smelling

    Compond eyes, +2 sight

    Silky Body, +2 Cold Resistance, -1 Heat Resistance, +1 Swimming

    Scythe Claw, +2 Strength, +1 speed

    Bearowl: Bear/Owl

    Habitat: Grass Mingle (That one island that has Grassland, Jungle, Swamp, and Savannah tiles)

    Behavior: They choose a favorite tree and stay near it. This includes acorn trees and smelly fruit trees. Otherwise they're similar to Bearyenas; males are found alone and females with their babies, the babies being tamable for breeding and always male.

    Bearowl Face, round with an owl beak, +1 strength, +2 smelling

    Farsighted Eyes, huge and round; can't see things right in front of them, but can see +3 after that.

    Inner Ears, looks like there are no ears, +2 hearing

    Bearowl Body, only a little smaller than Balance Bear bodies, +3 strength, +1 stealth

    Bearowl Claws, same position as the Balance Bear's downward-facing arm with similar appearance, +2 strength

    Bearowl Hind Legs, talons, +1 strength, +1 speed

    Bearowl Tail, owl feathers, just for looks. Maybe when the wing update comes out it could assist flying?

    Like Bearyenahs, Bearowls pass on moss brown fur

    Tigle: Tiger/Turtle

    Habitat: Anywhere, but especially on the Home Island

    Behavior: Solitary hunters, they go after bigger prey like Bearyenas, Bearowls, and Walrusdeer, but will attack nichelings if they get the chance. There are no baby Tigles in the wild. Males can't be tamed, but adult females can. You then have the difficult task of corralling one onto a nest after she's been mated with, the resulting offspring being yours to control. The female will follow her baby around until it is an adult, then she will start wandering again.

    Sharp Eyes, feline slitted, +3 sight

    Tigle Head, tiger face, +1 strength, +1 cracking, loud voice

    Tigle Body, turtle shell with fluffy tiger under body, +2 defense

    Tigle Claw, looks like bearyena claw but without claws, +2 stealth, +1 strength

    Tigle Hind Legs, looks like bearyena hind legs but without claws, +2 stealth, +1 strength

    Long Tail, longer and thinner than medium tail, +1 speed, +1 stealth, +1 heat resistance

    Round ears, instead of a coat color it passes on the stripes pattern.

    Crark: Crocodile/Shark

    Habitat: The water and the beach tiles, as well as swamps

    Behavior: They stay underwater close to the shore, waiting for nichelings, bunnels, and fish to get too close so they can eat them. Females are the only ones found on the beach, and they will have a male baby on the beach next to them you can tame once the mother is dead. The tamed male will wander into the water and proceed to have the same behavior as all males, but won't attack your nichelings. This does however mean that in order to breed with one you'll have to do a little swimming.

    Crark Jaws, crocky mouth with sharky head shape, +2 strength, +1 smelling, +1 underwater breathing

    Inner Ears, looks like there are no ears, +2 hearing

    Crark Body, sharky and crocky at the same time, +2 defense, +1 swimming, +1 underwater breathing

    Crark Tail, sharky, +1 defense, +1 swimming

    Crark Legs, crocky, +1 strength, +1 defense

    Crark Hind Legs, crocky, +1 strength, +1 defense

    Normal eyes, beige fur

    If you read everything, thanks a bunch, I appreciate it! I'll be drawing sketches of all of the above-mentioned ideas, so once I finish all of that I'll update this post with pictures!

  11. I also think that a creature similar to this could be a Newtsnake! A mixture of a fire belly newt and a diamondback rattlesnake, the Newtsnake wouldn't travel in packs like I imagine the swamp rats to do, instead being found alone in the swamp. If you get within hearing range of the Newtsnake, it will make a rattling sound, and if you are within one tile of it, it will bite you. This is meant to have the same effect as a toxic berry bush to nichelings that aren't immune; the snake can't attack you and do damage, but it can poison you, which lasts until you die. Think of it as a rattling, moving toxic berry bush that will attack if you get too close. They won't actively seek out your nichelings, though; they'll only bite if you get close.

     

    Also I think they would make a neat predator to the swamp rats! Of course, the swamp rats could fight back. I imagine the Newtsnake has a health that's a little higher than a Rabbil but not as high as a Crabbit, so it'll take more than one hit to kill.

  12. I feel torn on this idea; on the one hand, it's very unique and I really like it. On the other hand, I feel that it might be a little overpowered. The idea that they have a chance to get your nicheling sick is really neat, but I feel like the rabies part is a bit too far. Also, the niche team seems to be a fan of making mash-up creatures; for example, the rabbils are rabbits + gerbils, and the arctic ramfoxes are rams + foxes. So maybe instead of just a rat, it could be a rat mixed with something else that lives in a swamp? I suggest either frogs or bobcats. If you mean them to be a simple prey animal, then frogs would be the better option, but if you mean them to be like bearyenas and have the chance to mate with a friendly one, then bobcats would be the better option. I also think that these creatures could move in packs like the ramfoxes!

  13. So, I'm new here and I was just thinking maybe adding calico patterns to the game would be a good idea?

    I know it sounds odd and pretty basic, but it's meant to be.

    It could be made so that almost every time there is a Nicheling with any calico trait, it would be female (X chromosomes cause calico patterns I think??)

    A male with calico would be infertile.

    I'm not a fan of the infertility and female-centeredness, but I do like the idea of the calico gene. Instead of the two pattern colors combining into one, they could be separate. For example, a nicheling with orange fur has the black pattern color and white pattern color; normally this would result in an orange nicheling with grey markings, but with the calico trait it would result in an orange nicheling with black and white markings.

  15. I've got three ideas for you, with pictures!

     

    #1: Glamour Maw! This is my idea for an angler fish inspired head! It doesn't give any smelling ability, but it does allow underwater breathing, +1 fishing, and attracts fish. The bulb is the same color as the eyes, which are solid with no whites or pupils.

    #2: Sticky Tongue! This is my idea to combat the insect swarms; it gives the normal +2 smelling and allows you to use the gather option on insect swarms. I took inspiration from frogs and anteaters <3

    #3: Strong Beak! This is my idea based on the Gila Woodpecker! It gives the ability to collect from cacti without getting hurt, and adds +1 strength! No smelling, though.

    #5: Clever Jaw This is my idea for a new head based on ants! Thanks to the AntsCanada channel on YouTube, I've discovered the wonderful world of ants, and I've fallen in love with these tiny geniuses! Thus, I thought it would be awesome to make a nicheling head based off of their jaw-centered skills! The Clever Jaw adds +1 gathering, +1 cracking, +1 digging, +1 strength, and has no smelling ability, since ants smell with their antennae, which I think would make for a great horn slot option. Instead of a horn adding strength, the antennae could add +2 smelling like a normal snout's nose would!

    #6: Grabber Gob This is my idea for a head that's actually based on another suggestion of mine: Crarks! They're crocodile sharks xD But anyway, the Grabber Gob adds +2 smelling, +1 strength, underwater breathing, and the Grab/Grapple ability, which allows the nicheling to hold its prey still to keep it from running away while it's being attacked, but at the expense of becoming the prey's sole target for attacks. Example: Six nichelings surround a walrusdeer with one of them having Grabber Gob. The walrus deer, held in place by the Grabber Gob nicheling, is attacked by all six, but it focuses all its attacks on the nicheling holding it.

  16. It was suggested to me by vivsi78 that the Parravens could have different colors based on the biome, so I recolored the line art! Also vivsi78 said: "the one on the left should steal berries from berry bushes if you arent next to it and the one on the right should attack predators ( i would comment in the suggestion forum but i am very confused how it works )" and I thought that was a neat idea!

    Orange = Savannah

    Blue = Swamp (I'm trying to use only real parrot colors and I couldn't find a better color. I know blue kinda clashes with the current predatory bluebird color, but oh well. If you have a better real-life parrot color that would fit better with the swamp that isn't green, let me know!)

    Pink = Jungle

    White = Snow
