  1. I love birds! I currently have 2 rosy-faced lovebirds, Blu and Muffin (both named after cartoon birds) :D

@sorathegoddessoflight it's always hard to lose pets, I'm sure she was lovely :( I've got to say tho, I've never heard of anyone with a pet guineafowl. What are they like as pets? Are they hard to care for?

@BirdsAreCool, may they rest in peace. They always made good suggestions. I never actually looked at their pfp but just saw it out of the corner of my eye and thought it was an elephant.

they will be missed dearly :(

  4.

Sorry for taking a while to get back to you, I haven't been on here in a while :)

I think it would make sense to compare how a nicheling would use rodent-like teeth to a larger rodent than a rat. It's hard to say exactly what size nichelings are supposed to be, but I think it's safe to assume they're larger than most rodents alive today

Rodent-like teeth could be used for grazing, which I believe is what capybaras (the largest extant rodent) uses their teeth for. However, grazing isn't something that is in the game, so unless this was added then obviously this wouldn't work

Instead, it could be based off of something like Josephoartigasia monesi (it's a bit of a mouthful lol but I don't think it has a common name). This is the largest rodent known to science and it died out a couple million years ago. Scientists have discovered that it's teeth were much stronger than necessary for just eating. They assume it used its teeth for digging stuff up and self defence, sort of like how elephants and that use their tusks

This was the most interesting rodent I could find, other than this rodent teeth mainly seem to be used for chewing things. If you want it to be based off of rats then I don't really know how you could make that more interesting, sorry :| I wouldn't use insect collecting tho, rodent teeth aren't really the best adapted for that

Here's the article I used for info about H. monesi for anyone interested:

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-31111843

Edit: strength could still work for something like a rat or a beaver actually. Beavers have a bite force equal to twice that of human! xD rip i just wrote all of this for nothing

Edit 2: @The elf pup & cat dino they technically can't crack open nuts, but they can chew through them which would have the same end result so cracking would work. Digging would work as well as cracking and strength, so it's really up to @Morso to decide which stats they prefer

But this one doesn’t have stinkiness; and the difference would be that the tip is a bit longer and forms a espiral like form in the end, like the way that squirrel tail’s are pictured in some animations; and i think you misunderstood it a little bit because i wanted to say that i made this tail have this kind of feature because the already present gene “big ears” have as stats: +4 of hearing and -cold resistance; so why not a tail with +4 of cold resistance and -1 for heat resistance.

I still don't think this would be different enough to be a seperate gene. I would rather see something completely new be added than something that appears slightly different and has slightly different stats to something we already have

+4 cold resistance would be pretty overpowered compared to other genes which give cold resistance. The best you can currently get is +2 I'm pretty sure, and a big fluffy tail wouldn't be as affective as other adaptations like the big body at preserving heat. If it had +2 cold resistance then that would be fine, but +4 is definately too much

Edit: the tail you're suggesting would have to be longer than the stinky tail for it to curl around at the end, which would make it less efficient at conserving warmth. It would'nt make a huge difference, but that's also something to think about. The shorter the tail in a cold climate the better

Oh right, I only wanted to also give more tail ideas and help balance a bit more because of the already present gene “big ears”; take a look at the wiki page about genes to see the reason for why I decided that my tail idea will have this kind of feature:  https://niche.fandom.com/wiki/Genes

I'm not entirely sure what your trying to say, so if I've misunderstood anything let me know

New tails would be great and I would love a squirrel type tail, but imo it would be too similar to the stinky tail. The stinky tail looks like a squirrel tail and if it was given some cold resistance like this post suggests it would basically be what you're suggesting but with stinkiness as well as cold resistance. There are plenty of other new tails that could be added, this one for me is just too similar to what we've already got

Yes this is what I meant to say, do you have any idea how the creatures with a limp would be like having a 50% random chance that the creature will either move normally or slowly in the next turn

I'm still a bit confused. How would a nicheling get a limp? Would it be a birth defect or an injury that could be aquired? Would it be caused by a specific gene? If so, what type of gene would it be; paws or hindlegs? What effects would a limp have on a nicheling? Would they be slowed down by their injury/defect or would it have some other effect? Imo we have plenty of problematic genes, but being able to gain an injury that would affect your nichelings lifestyle would be pretty interesting and would add something new to the game. I'm pretty sure there's been a suggestion for this sort of thing before, you could maybe search for it and see if it has anything similar to your idea

  8. I agree, being able to call out from wherever would be great. I'd personally love a frog head with the puffy cheeks! :D

I've made a few suggestions for similar ideas here if you're interested:

  9. What you're suggesting is pretty much a wolf's paw, which has no adaptations for attack at all. Wolves are pursuit predators, and their paws are adapted for chasing prey down over long distances. The claws work sort of like studs on football boots, and are fairly useless when it comes to attack. Wolves have much less flexible paws than, say, a big cat like a lion or tiger, and can't use their claws to really hurt their prey. I made a comment on this post a while back on why a runner's paw with claws would't be all that different from a runner's paw without claws here:
