The baby boar pattern would give +3 camouflage in a biome depending on fur colour until the nichelings reach adulthood. Once a nicheling grows up they only get +1 camouflage, though if I remove it then there would be no need for this gene.

Would it be stripes overlaying the animal's actual pattern that later disappear? Or will the stripes be replaced by the animal's grown pattern when it's an adult?

I understand the concept, I personally just don’t understand the application. If I have a humped nicheling collect 6 pieces of food in a starving tribe, I don’t understand why I would want to store any as I would want everybody to eat and my humped nicheling would take one piece of food anyways regardless if it was stored or in the tribe food stash.

A humped Nicheling can still collect for the tribe with a full hump, but I do see what you mean with them automatically storing it. Perhaps they should choose when to store it.

Andï»ż yea I also don’t totally get the idea of storing food for individual nichelings and ï»żwould rather have it for the entire tribe but it seems other people see the usï»żeï»żï»ż.ï»żï»ż

When they store food for themselves they don't eat, therefore not wasting an item of food and letting its tribemates have more for them. It'd almost be like not having an animal for a few days. Is that what you mean?

  4. Some of ya'll bout to be real mad at me, but it must be said. Camels are so underrated! They have so many unique adaptions and look so cool (especially bacterian camels), to me at least. And they can come in quite a bit of colors, which people don't usually realize. In conclusion, they're great.

But anyway I was thinking of some new genes the other day and I came up with two, one of them being a camel hump/camel body. I call it the Hump Body but there might be a better name for it. What the hump body does is store fat in it's hump by gathering food (like camels) which eventually gets full. A hump body nicheling will get 1 day's worth of fat stores for every 2 days (maybe longer or shorter depending on creature's longevity) the tribe is fully fed. From there they can use these stores as food for however many days their hump allows them, while simultaneously gathering food for the tribe. (Credit to @Pokestardragacraft and @BirdsAreCool for improving on this ability!)

Your nicheling will be able to choose when they start using their stored fat. What I mean is if they have say, 2 days worth of fat, from there they can live off of it for two days and don't have to wait to get a full hump. I believe camels can control how they use up their fat so this would be pretty useful.

    Stats:

    +1 Heat resistance

+1/2 Food Storing/ Fat Storing (this skill could probably be the same skill given to other food "storing" genes: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/3737-cheek-pouches/#comment-17229

Maybe Hump Body can be unlocked by having a certain amount of nichelings starve? Or maybe having to collect an x amount of times and spend an x amount of time in a savanna.

Edited some screenshots to give an idea of how it could look in game:

This is actually an example of abundism, or pseudo-melanism, rather than melanism. It can be seen in tigers and leopards as well as zebras. I don't think you get truly melanistic zebras?

This is the closest we've gotten to a melanistic zebra (this one like you said has pseudo-melanism) He looks like a little okapi!

I think this is a great idea because like with the sticky tongue you make a good reason for this gene. Though I think forelimb hooves should be added to make things more interesting. Though I'm wondering could you fall of these cliffs and if you do does the nicheling receive damage from it?

Thanks! I didn't think of it as a forelimb gene because you'd most likely need two hooves to get enough climbing ability, like how two wings give you flying. I guess they would be useful with digging and cracking, but they wouldn't be able to help the nicheling collect plants off the cliffs.

Also I don't think they would take damage. If hooves aren't implemented then any nicheling with normal/bearyena hind legs can climb them. But if they added hooves too then they must have hooves. Perhaps hooves could be unlocked by attempting to climb cliffs.

  7. Cliff islands will of course have high plateaus here and there in an otherwise normal grassland looking biome (or a perhaps a scrubland biome.) The tiles will be tall, similar to the ones at the edge of savanna islands that sink into the water. On the tiles on the cliff face there will be the usual regular and poisonous berry bushes, and perhaps a new kind of plant/animal that can be found only on cliffs. At the top of these cliffs will be flat spaces that have the same things the ground does; acorn trees, berries, termite mounds, nests, etc. I think these islands will offer something different to see, and won't just be the usual flat or rising slope islands.

I was also thinking that maybe nichelings would need specific genes to climb these cliff faces, so hooved hind legs would be the best gene to do this in my opinion:

Found a similar suggestion from last year :D

We're back again with this challenge, and the cold season seems to be drawing to a close. The nichelings (what should I name this tribe?) focus on collecting food to feed themselves. Love is in the air however, and a few of the nichelings have different ideas on how to spend their day. Anamera and Tango specifically, and finally a new baby will be born soon!

But only a little later things get more interesting. The same rogue male comes back, a little too close to Ladybug. Strawberry fends him off, but as usual, not for long. A peaceful bear also makes an appearance, peering through the grasses at Vankirkir. Unfortunately Ladybug and Vankirkir, best friends when they were young, have drifted apart. Because of this he chooses to follow the peaceful bear, who he deems as his pet. The baby bearyena grows bigger by the day, and soon may pose a threat to the tribe.

The cold season ends, luckily with no snow. The original three are growing old, but Anamera isn't done with baby-making yet. She has a handsome little boy (a boy again -_-) named Zekuta who's genes are healthy/useful at least. Thank the gods he has a beak, so he can peck at the termites like his grandfather Zerolur. Zerolur and Zatala spend most of their days gathering food, crazy in love. The old couple begins to prepare for their death and never stray far from each other.

Twizzler, Ladybug, and Strawberry (I love him) form a tight group, staying together to gather food, explore, and scare off the pesky rogue who they refer to as Mosca (fly in spanish, and he is a pest, like a fly, get it?)  Vankirkir gets distracted from his peaceful bear pet as he stumbles upon a new nicheling, Sunny. Vankirkir eagerly invites him into the tribe- he seems to love inviting nichelings into the tribe- and looses track of his pet for a moment. He quickly learns that Sunny is of no value to the tribe. He has a deformed paw, bad fertility, hemophilia, and no genes that will help his tribe in the cold climate. Zatala asks Vankirkir to kick Sunny out of the tribe, quietly so she doesn't make Sunny feel bad of course.

The bearyena, who had dissappeared among the grasses a while ago, suddenly reappears. He charges at Ladybug, but Strawberry jumps into the way and claws him across the nose. The bearyena backs away, but as you guessed, not for long. Ladybug already harbors a crush for Strawberry, but after he valiantly defends her, she is sold. Meanwhile Vankirkir hesitantly banishes Sunny, who runs away with flattened ears and a dejected whimper.

Zerolur is excited about his first grandson and eagerly starts teaching him the art of termite eating. Zekuta is interested at first, but soon grows bored and runs away. He already seems to take after his grandfather, not only in appearnce but his impatience as well. Unfortunately he runs right into the bearyena, but luckily Strawberry is nearby. He hears Zekuta cry for help and leaps in and slays the bearyena. Later, Ladybug and Strawberry mate.

Anamera, feeling a little lonely after Zekuta's early departure, decides to pay her first child a visit. Tano is a diligent provider and hardly moves from his collecting spot. Mother and son reconnect, having not seen each other for many days. Ladybug meanwhile gives birth to a boy (are you serious) named Moosh. You can't see it here, but Moosh has inherited big body in his recessive slot. YES! He is the tribe's first sign of hope. He also sports poison fangs, guaranteeing the fact that he will be able to collect from poisonous berry bushes in the future.

The next day is mostly uneventful, but the tribe gets to interact. Tango pays a visit to his parents Zatala and Zerolur, and Zekuta meets his nephew/cousin Moosh. Everything is going well. Mosco hasn't appeared in a while and there are no signs of predators or snow.

Jinxed. Mosco appears again, intent on getting to Zatala. Zekuta jumps to defend his grandma, and Zerolur scratches the rogue. He's wounded in the process, but the feisty bird won't let Mosco get to his beloved again. Not too far away, Tano and Tango prepare to say goodbye to Anamera (noooo) who doesn't have much longer to live. The others focus on food and breeding, and Vankirkir insists he use more nesting material to keep his pet (what should he name it?) happy.

Ladybug and Strawberry have a beautiful daughter (FINALLY) named Islala. She too has big body recessive and poison fangs, but unfortuantely she does carry hemophilia. Nevertheless, she is a welcome member to the tribe as the first daughter born and they celebrate! We end on a good note :D

That's all for today! I might do a time jump because this is going along a little slowly. Or at least space out the scenes/story bits more. Anyways I'm so glad we're making progress.

  9. Drawing of one of my favorite Nichelings in my longest save file. Her name is Anamere and you can see her on my profile in the background picture, next to her now-grown son Tavankir, who I'm also very fond of. I love Bearyena genes because they make my Nichelings look like hyenas, which I love. :D
