Okay, okay... this one is hard, but you could share an 'id' code to an island and have your own personal tribe on that isle. There would be no island hopping. (possibly if it was co-op)
Your first couples spawn on separate sides island. while the other player isn't there the nichelings are impervious, but when both players are there the day change would happen when both players lock-in their movements and actions, also while they are both there the 2 tribes can interact. (Mating, fighting, etc.)
Though I do not know how the Mating would work. Whose tribe? Is it 50-50, or do players play RPS (Online just incase they are both there) is it a game of reaction? Is it the mum's tribe? or is it the dad's tribe? Do they both control the tiny one? Idk the devs decide if the do implement this
Players would be able to chat (as this isn't a server, they can use any language) maybe through a little chat bar, or only when there Nichelings are close together.

This is all very reliant on the devs, of course.
