  1. Dear Drone Engineers,

    We just released the 0.7.2 patch for the new Campaign Update on the preview branch.

    Here is how you can get the preview build on steam:

    – Open your Steam library
    – Right click on Nimbatus in the Steam library
    – Select Properties / Beta
    – Select the Beta tab
    – Enter imadeabackup as password to unlock the preview branch

    – Select Preview_0.7.0 from the drop down
    – Restart steam in case the game does not update automatically or you can't see the preview branch


    Patchnotes

    New Features

    • Drone Skins can now be rotated
    • Added Piston part that can be extended and retracted
    • Added 4 new travel events
    • Added option to transfer all drones from a campaign save to the creative mode on game over
       

    Reworks

    • Reworked mineral persistency, instead of having a display of the percentual mined amount we now store where you already collected it.
    • Reworked Shop UI
    • Improved travel event scenes with proper assets
    • New icons for resources
    • New icon for Heavyweight
    • Added Basic Blaster as starter weapon in creative mode
    • Removed max stack size limit for parts
    • Changed name of “Health” to “Hull”
    • Added tool tips for Hull and Threat display
    • Changed the way physics joints compare the mass between parts. This should lead to a small stability improvement.

    Balancing

    • Slightly decreased average amount of ore gained per mission reward
    • Items in shops are now bought using Unobtainium
    • Shops now offer the ability to buy Tritium for Unobtainium
    • Reduced the burning damage scaling
    • Objects now stop burning after 5 seconds, unless they get heated up again.
    • Increased rate at which fire and cryo ammunition change temperature
    • Plasma and cryo weapons now increase / lower temperature at the same rate
    • Removed fuel tanks from shops for Researcher
    • Lowered health of shipwreck-parts
    • Slightly increased durability of Energy Shield
    • Changed distribution of shops throughout galaxy
    • Grenades are now faster, explode more quickly and lose velocity on initial impact
    • Halved shotgun projectile count and doubled shotgun projectile damage
    • Increased max projectile count per shot
    • Adjusted weapon upgrade prices for researcher in campaign mode

    Fixes

    • Stonemantas don't spawn fireflies anymore when they are frozen
    • Fixed minimap being blank on asteroid field missions
    • Removed possibility to travel to a previous galaxy in sandbox mode, as this is needed for the new mineral persistency 
    • Increased readability of CoalBrick in Relic Mission
    • Fixed placement of resources on lava planet corridor
    • Made lava fireflies more susceptible to cryo weapons
    • Fixed wrong amount of weapon upgrades in shop items
    • Pressing Esc during the intro now skips it instead of returning to the main menu
    • You now go back to the galaxy map when exiting and the mission is already finished.
    • Fixed bug in corp laboratory mission where no laboratory would spawn
    • Fixed bug where double battery recharge rate for Researcher wasn’t working
    • Fixed drone workshop max diameter not being displayed correctly in racing modes
       

    We plan to release the update next week, so please report any critical bugs until monday!

    Patchnotes

    New Features

    • The minimap now has a dynamic planet display
    • Added live weapon previews to tooltips

    Reworks

    • Changed the way health works:
      • Health is now displayed in units instead of as a percentage
      • One unit of health is lost with each corp attack
      • The Nimbatus doesn’t start with full health anymore since it got hit in the intro
    • Changed deploy cost to scale linearly with amount of parts above threshold
    • You now only can mine a finite amount of resources from one planet, even if you launch multiple drones
      • This is to limit some exploits, we plan to add better resource persistency in the future

    Fixes

    • Fixed preconditions in autonomous tutorial
    • Fixed bug that mission did not complete when bringing back the blackbox to the container
    • Fixed bug where shop solar systems would unlock neighboring systems too early
    • Made drone skins less blurry on high zoom levels
    • Added space between 1 and upgrade in  "uncommon weapon with 1upgrade" 
    • Made Edit Planet Settings more visible
    • Fix corp transmitter effect during attack
    • Removed useless threat display on missions
    • Fixed sandbox settings and credits sliders so they change their value on click
    • Fixed a bug where tooltip on parts in captain selection showed 0 health
    • Fixed bug where hammerheads that haven’t targeted the player before were faster

    Balancing

    • Removed fuel tanks from rewards for Researcher
    • Corp Lab missions now only appear on Jungle planets
    • Reduced the maximum recoil from 3 to 2.5 as shotguns exploded with 3
    • Changed when corp attacks are encountered.
    • Threat level now lowers when suffering a corp attack.
    • Flamethrowers now display the damage that 10 particle impacts cause instead of one, to be better comparable.
    • Players start off with a small amount of Unobtainium
    • Reduced amount of Tritium at start
    • Increased spawnrate of Unobtainium rewards slightly
    • Adjusted prices in shops
    • Buffed Spike min and max damage
    • Made “freeze lava fountain” and “hammer head in the core” 2 star missions to offer more alternatives to the “hammerhead shoal” mission
    • Reduced cost of travelling to dead end galaxies
    • Added 2 heater parts to Engineer starter set
    • Removed 2 regular thrusters from Engineer starter set
    • Increased minimum amount of shops per galaxy
    • Lowered probability of receiving bio weapons as rewards
    • Balanced amount of snake eggs for the egg mission

    We just uploaded a new version (1.2.0) of the "Sandbox settings" update on the tester branch!
    This is the last update for the tester branch, we plan to release it to the main branch next week, so please report any critical bug you find until next Monday.


    What has changed in this new version?

    • Fixed invisible wanderer bug and other related bugs
    • Fixed saving of weather periods, they are no longer reset when loading a game
    • Fixed gem count on generated animals
    • Added webbed paw, bat wings to the default forbidden gene list
    • Eve can no longer spawn with wings
    • Fixed spawn of meat eating plants


    Here is how you can join the Tester Branch:
    Right click on Niche in your steam library, select properties, open the Betas tab, enter the password.
    The password is: NicheTesterBranch
    Select tester_branch from the drop down. The game should now be updating. If now, restart Steam.

    You should have flames on every particle thrower at the moment.
    It just shows the type of particle. For example we had an electric spark thrower in an earlier version (which will come back).

    We just released the new Campaign Update on the preview branch and we need your help to test the game, report bugs and give us feedback about the new campaign mode, so we can improve it and fix all critical bugs before the patch goes live for everyone. Keep in mind that this preview build is still a work in progress.

    This update is not compatible with your older save files and might break your drones.
    We implemented a mechanism that extracts all drones from your previous saves and adds them to the new global drone list used in the creative and competitive mode. So you should find your drones there if everything works out!

    • Split the game into 3 different modes: Competitive, Campaign and Creative
    • New Campaign Mode with new progression system, different captains, travel events, new locations and rewards
    • New Creative Mode with different settings to change the gameplay
    • First version of drone skins, which can be applied to basic parts (more to come in the future)
    • New shared drone list for creative and competitive mode
    • Added in-place replace functionality for drone parts (hold alt when dragging item over another)
    • Added multiple gravity and air resistance modes to the test drive
    • Added Kickstarter backers to the credits
    • Added planet names from Kickstarter backers to the game

    Drone Part Changes:

    • Spikes now cause damage on impact rather than continuous damage on contact
    • There is now only one resource tank which can hold all resources
    • We increased the rate plasma and cryo ammunition change the temperature of enemies
    • Drills now only cause damage while they are activated
    • Particle weapons now heat up or cool down enemies faster than other weapon types

    Reworks:

    • You can now access the drone hangar directly from the map without having to travel to a location
    • Most missions now have different difficulty levels 
    • We balanced the health of the enemies to match the difficulty level of the new campaign mode
    • Enemies now target you if you attack them, even if you are out of range
    • Snake damage changed from 100 to 180. Aggro speed increased by 20%
    • Balanced all weapon-stats
    • A lot of small UI changes, especially for the campaign mode
    • A lot of sound effect changes and new sound effects
    • Changed the drone import file dialog to use native dialogues

    Bugfixes:

    • Race finish line is no longer detected as obstacle
    • Fixed afterburner collider
    • Proximity and distance sensor overlays no longer stretch the drone image
    • Fixed that some objects did not heat up neighboring objects
    • Fixed small spawning bugs in different missions

    Engine:

    • Upgraded our engine to Unity 2018.4.3f1

  6. @Edward We upgraded the engine with the last update, so this might explain why the older versions work.
    According to the logs it looks like unity has trouble with your graphic card drivers. There are alot of instances of this error: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED
    I have to research what the causes of this error are. In the mean time I would try the following things:

    • Make sure the laptop is not in power saving mode
    • Disable all screen space effects (bloom and AA) and check if the game still crashes
    • Reinstall graphic card drivers
    • Check if it makes a difference whether the game runs in full screen or windowed mode

    We plan to release a preview version of the next update later this week, it uses again an upgraded version of unity, so it would be good to see if the crashes still happen there.

  7. I think you mean Niche, I move it to the correct forum.

    @Ilikecats192 The first thing I would try is setting the Animal pattern resolution in the graphic settings to the lowest setting. This will reduce the amount of memory Niche uses and can help with some crashes.

    If this does not help I'd need the lopgfile to see whats the problem. Here is explained how to get the logfile:
