Maybe a tip can be to collect a lot of food and material on the first islands, so that on the harder islands like the snow your Nichelings won’t starve.

Also don’t put teens to protect babies, sometimes it’s glitchy and the bird will eat the baby.

Watch for Home Island Immunity, it is very important on story mode.

On the jungle, move with the smelling sense on. To avoid being eaten by the plants.

A thing I do is that when I’m passing the day put it on hearing mode, so that you can see if any nearby predator is moving.

Also, when you see an ape the best thing to do is run!

A way of reducing the chance of one spawning is to avoid stepping on those tiles that have like leaves and sticks to not make noice. Also, lick the juice from the stinky plants to avoid Nichelings that have smell. It is useful to have stinky tail and black fur to camouflage.
