Group Challenge

So, I was looking at some old forum posts, and I found this one talking about Nicheling sapience. Then I read this:

• Form large social groups and

A small snippet from a post by @betwixted. I thought, What if I did a challenge revolving around social groups?

So here we are. Here are the rules:

1. For the first island, you pick a social group from animal life (Ex: A wolf pack, a herd of elephants, etc.)
2. Then you must try to breed your Nichelings to look like said social group using whatever genes available along with functioning like the chosen social group (this includes hierarchy, breeding, etc. Be as realistic as possible)
3. Once 2 is completed, you will move onto another island with as many creatures as possible.
4. On the new island, split the two up into the first social group and another of your choosing (or you can do a poll )
5. For the original social group from the first island, you can apply any challenge you want to them to make them more interesting, since you HAVE reached your goal with them. If you have unlocked additional genes that make them look more closely to their real life counterparts, then you can breed those in first.
6. Repeat 1-3, but then you must choose which one to move onto the next island. Once again, either choose yourself or do a poll. 

And so on and so on. Sorry if it's confusing, I tried my best!

Anyway, here's the actual challenge part:

I have chosen horses as my social group. My first gene goal is Eyes, as my female starter has Shortsighed Eyes recessive. Also, here are the starters, Hop and Skip.

And here's the island.

For the horses, a female that is the least strongest out of all females will be the dominant mare. Their mate will be considered the highest-ranking male, but they will have little-to-no power. They will be herbivorous, and usually run away from danger unless young foals are at most 3 tiles close to them, or there is nowhere to run. Foals will be very adventurous, already taking up exploring and collecting ASAP. Horses must take 3 days before they can give birth. Those are the rules for my horses.

Hop is an energetic young mare that loves exploring, while Skip is quite the opposite. He knows life doesn't last too long, and has only the basic goals of passing on your genes for his life. Therefore, he convinces Hop of this, and they begin to have a child while also exploring a bit, digging up a root with their hooves and scenting numerous berry bushes nearby.

After those 3 days of exploring, Hop has settled in and they have found two food sources.

And Jump is born! Since he has completed the gene goal of Eyes, his next gene goal will be No Horns.

Note: I am changing the rules for my horses so that the limit for having a child is removed. From now on, there will be no wait. Here are the updated rules:

Soon after the pair wakes up and finds Jump in their nest, Skip hears rustling in the grass. Instincts and his desire to pass on his genes overtake him, and he approaches the horse. 

After a bit of a chase, he manages to knock over Hocus, a scared-to-death horse looking for a home. Skip looks her over, and determines she would work out well with his new son, so the next day he decides to invite her into the herd.

Hop is very surprised by this, so she carefully picks a few berries with her teeth and stays on the nest to protect Jump.

Then Hocus manages to get away, terrified.

The next day, Skip continues his chase. He manages to force Hocus into the herd, and she slowly begins gathering food and clearing the area.

Skip is now convinced that the world is too dangerous for only one offspring, so he also convinces Hop to have another child with him.

Now young and growing Jump is alone. He spots something white move out of the corner of his eye, and he struggles to chase after it. 

Hocus, still shocked, continues shakily collecting berries. 

Pocus is born. He has also completed the gene goal of Eyes, so his gene goal is also No Horns. 

For now, Skip is satisfied. He clears out the area, and Hop does the same.

Jump is now very energetic...and hungry. He decides to make it his life goal to make sure no one starves and to help and agree with others to make them have a great life. 

Nothing much happens the next day, other than more collecting and exploring. Pocus is also off the nest, and he seems to be very proud of himself. Despite the fact that he won't be allowed to breed with Hocus, Skip takes a liking to him more than Jump. 

What will happen to this herd? Will they starve? What will happen when the founders die? Find out in the next edition of the Group Challenge!

Yup. I'm also gonna use that one to cross because it has 15 spaces, meaning that I can still have a decently large second group.

You're so lucky! If it's a snow port, great, but I can't never find a snow port! The last time I didn't start in a snow biome and actually (With the ports) got there, I almost DIED. Made it out with 3 females. Not a single male. That proves I can't survive in snow biomes. So when you do go, best of luck! Oh and, the snow port lead to long winter, so it wasn't first snow or anything.

Alright, thank you! I doubt my horses will survive, but if I generate wolves for my second group and can get the genes in quick enough, they may survive. But I'm going no matter what.

Food is running low, and Skip and Jump are incredibly concerned. They don't know what to do about it, though. 

Jump is now an adult and can breed with Hocus, but Skip announces that until it rains and the food stores are back up, there will be no breeding unless Hocus is about to die.

That day, the food stores actually rise. 

Days pass, and Pocus is now also an adult.

The food stores are still sitting comfortably between 10 and 20, and Skip deems it safe enough for a foal to be born in the next few days between Hocus and Jump. They reluctantly agree.

Gaviota is born. It rains unlike it has in many days. The tribe rejoices. (Her gene goal is still No Horns.)

They decide to have another one soon before Hocus passes. Skip is proud.

That's a whale island port.  Snow ports are smaller than that. 

Also, I am liking this. Might do a mammoth herd.
