Mushrooms are edible. Not all, but they're a food type. Bears eat mushrooms. Other creatures eat mushrooms too. I imagine the nichlings might quite enjoy this as a tasty treat.
Of course, if there are Edible Mushrooms there should also be Toxic Mushrooms. We could just call it Fungi and Toxic Fungi. The runner leg and Nimble Fingers would be just fine collecting these from the ground. Maybe they're on a single tile in a fairy ring (just a circle of mushrooms). Once the spot is plucked no more will grow there until after it rains again. They won't grow at all in savannah tiles, but anywhere else is a good bet... mostly grasslands and jungle though.
