  1. Yes, 5 damage in a 5 tile radious is too much, but maybe there could be shock resistance
  2. this got so much hate, but it reminds me of the stories of people finding living frogs inside rocks, maybe there could be a rock dwelling creature
  3. Before you read: I plan to post here more stories about the non nicheling creatures that inhabit the world of niche, writing from their point of view, so I would love to see what you think, so feel free to comment! Also if you want, you could try to re create part of the story in game! It was a dark day on the mountains, some time ago, a balance bear had separated a pregnant nicheling from her tribe. She managed to gain some distance and hide behind a rock. The bear lost her tracks, but the snowstorm was cold and relentless. She built a nest in desperation, using some of the white flowers she had, and she curled up to endure the cold. The next day, as the sun escalated the mountain, it revealed the frozen remains of the mother, and a snow white baby with grey ram horns sleeping by her side. Suddenly, a three mysterious creatures started rushing to their location. Three ramfoxes.- Well well well, what do we have here- Alpha, said. -Looks like lunch, lets feast!- Kevin exclaimed as he rushed to the baby, but Betty, the beta of the pack, stepped in front of him. -Wait- she whispered -Just look at him, does he not remind you of a baby ramfox?- Betty murmured in a sweet tone. -I do not care!- Kevin yelled as he lunged himself to the baby, sinking his teeth deep in its soft flesh... Or thats what he was thinking would happen. Instead, the baby just stared at him as he struggled to get a good bite in the nicheling's ultra hard body. - Don't you see it has armored body?- Alpha laughed. -Damn it, at least the mother does not have armor- Kevin insisted. -The mother is too cold to eat,- Betty replied. -Besides, if we can't eat the baby, why don't we keep him? We wont gain anything by just leaving him. -Have you gone mad!?- Kevin yelled. - How are we supposed to feed it? -Betty has a point- Alpha continued.- There are plenty of rabbils here, and one gives sufficient food for the four of us. Kevin started screaming. -DONT YOU SEE HE IS A NICHELING!!! Those greedy beasts invade our homes and steal our food! We have to always hide, and when we are so desperate that we are forced to eat their babies, they just kill us!- Betty kept her usual calm expression. -He wont become like the other nichelings if we raise him in the ways of the ramfox. He will grow as a ramfox and hunt with the pack, he would be a valuable hunter with his speed, and maybe he could even help us reason with the nichelings in the future.- Her words managed to really calm down kevin, and suddenly, he felt a warm touch in his tail. The baby hugged him firmly with a wide smile on his face. -Tata!- The baby smiled, forcing a smile on kevin's face too. -Yep, he fell for the baby already.- Betty whispered. As the seasons passed, the baby nicheling, Tata, grew up strong and adventurous, hunting with the ramfoxes, he was a valuable member of the pack, and being widely accepted. Alpha and Betty had two sons, Rascal and Scout. Those two, along with their adoptive brother Tata, became great hunters, but they kept getting in trouble. Rascal was the clown of the group, always joking, while Scout tried to befriend basically every mountain dweller, which worried his parents, but Tata showed a great interest for the nicheling tribe established in the mountainside. One day, the three of them got too close to nicheling territory while chasing rabbils. When they were about to catch their prey, they heard a terrified call. -RAMFOXES! Protect the babies! RUN! Warriors, please save us!- The brothers realized that the nicheling's nest was close, as a proud brown nicheling stumbled down the snowy mountain with a menacing claw. -Guys, I think we should go.- Rascal said as the warrior walked closer. -I may not be able to take you on alone- the warrior said,- but my partners will come. Tata stepped between the nicheling and his brothers. -This is just a misunderstanding.- He said confidently.- We mean no harm. -Hah!- The warrior laughed. - What a joke! You helping these beasts!? Just come help me kill them.- He pushed Tata aside and raised his claw. The foxes stepped back, but he swiped with extreme speed! However Tata managed to shield them with his armored body, causing the claw to bounce off. -YOU BARBARIC IDIOT!- The warrior roared. -If you are with these beasts, then you will perish too! Come here Bertha!- As he called, a great beast surged from the snow. The most terrifying thing a ramfox could ever see. A hybrid, with white fur and blood red eyes, the legs and head of a bearyena, and the speed of a nicheling, clearly old and close to expiring, but still fearsome and agile, it started rushing toward them. -HAH!- Rascal yelled.- That thing cant get past Tata! - Actually...- Tata whispered.- I think we should run. -FUDGE!- Rascal screamed as they started running. The chase was desperate. They were fast, but the hybrid started getting closer and closer. -Follow me!- Scout said. - I know of a place where we will be safe!- They made a sharp turn and started running by the mountainside, but the hybrid climbed up. As they neared a humongous pile of snow, the creature surprised them from above and jumped in front of them, getting between them and the giant snow pile. Dusk was transforming into night, and the old hybrid made her move. Showing her razor sharp teeth, she let out a war cry and pounced to them with meteoric force! BUT THE MONSTROUS SNOW PILE BURSTED TO LIFE! A great paw knocked the hybrid out of the air, and the balance bear revealed itself! With the strength of the mountain the bear roared as it crushed the beast beneath the snow. The king of the mountain let out a victorious snarl, as he turned towards the brothers, Scout being the only one not paralyzed by fear. The bear just smiled. -Let me guess- Tata realized. -Its one of your friends.- Yep- Scout said with a satisfied smile. -Lets go home bros, and thanks Snowflake. -Youre WeLcOmE!- The bear growled.
  4. Actually no bat species is blind, they just dont see well
  5. I think that ancient nichelings were either the apex predators of their time, or they had to deal with extremely deadly predators that caused them to become so strong and defensive. There may have been ancient versions of the balance bears and ramfoxes, like large saber teeth bears and fast dire foxes with heavier ramhorns. Maybe there were apes on these islands, huge snow dwelling apes unlike anything we have seen before, or maybe some extinct creature we have no clue existed. I wish we at least had a clue of what their predators looked like. Maybe in a future update we could find decorative fossils, or a game developer could answer, for now, all we have is speculation.
  6. Thanks! I noticed that you seem to like bugs, especially ants, so you may like symbiotic body type 2 which has something to do with bugs,( But that idea is not ready yet) Also the berries are not heavy.
  7. I think rather than normal mammoths they hunted some sort of pygmy mammoth adapted to smaller islands, but maybe there were giant walrus deer with megaloceros horns. I would like to speculate about the predators of that time. Any ideas?
  8. I suspect that they lived on warmer climates, like the grasslands but a bit colder, the ice age eventually caused them to adapt and develop the genes we can find, but they all ended up freezing at the coldest part of the ice age, where the snowstorms were deadlier and colder than in modern times, thats when their slowness came into effect
  9. Lets discuss and share our theories about how the world was and how the different species looked during the ancient era of niche, the time where armor body and saber teeth nichelings roamed without being frozen. What were their predators, what did they hunt, and why are the prehistoric nichelings the only ancient creatures that ended up frozen? Maybe we will even get answers from the devs!
  10. Well, unless its curled up I dont think a pythadillo would have a good chance against an ape killer
  11. Well, they have camouflage in the snow.
  12. Yes, but at least in the harder islands it snows more, so its easier to make it hibernate
  13. You can also sacrifice one of your nichelings to trap it in the snow and force it to "hibernate" until the snow melts to buy you time
  14. They dont freeze, so just imagine they have more cold resistance. But I noticed that it prefers fish and berries over your nichelings, and also they seem to hibernate if they are buried just a bit in the snow, staying mostly inactive until the snow melts. I recommend that you try to get armor body to coexist peacefully with those cute bears, but otherwise you are safe by staying one tile away, they are veeeeeery slow.
  15. A new body gene that would implement symbiotic relationships with other organisms.( Inspired by the relationship between sloths and algae) There are two variations: (I will talk about the second one in another post) The first one is a really hairy body with pointy hairs. These nichelings have a relationship with small creeping algae like plants that grow on their back. They have no plants on them when they are babies, but it starts growing on them once they have 2 gems and start fruiting once they have 3 gems. These nichelings essentially become walking berry bushes, and other creatures can gather the berries from them. They also attract berry eating creatures. Their symbiotic plant works like a berry bush and it can be replenished by standing in water, but the berries dont grow if the water is too deep and they grow slower if their host is unhealthy. Nichelings with this body can hold up to 5 berries. Edit: This could be perfect for savannah and mountain islands, but it does not give any climate resistance.
  16. Echolocation is a sound based ability, like purring and calling. by using it, it gives you a really clear view of the user's surroundings, and it gives even better range than smelling or hearing, and the more hearing ability you have, the larger the range of this ability, which could be extremely useful. This can detect all things aside from roots. You may think this is just enhanced hearing, but actually it increases your speed by 1 point and letting you move in the darkness as long as its active, which can really help you get away from danger or hunt. The gene for this would be the bat head, which looks like the head of an insectivorous bat. It gives echolocation, 1 smelling and insect eating. Predator: The gorobat is an apex predator of the jungle. It could be your saving grace or doom in the killer jungle. It looks like a giant bat with a short snout an big fangs, but it has a hunched back and it walks on its knuckles, like a gorilla or a winged nicheling. You could consider it as a species that competes with the apes for the apex predator status, but this one is a little stronger. It hunts down any prey, but it prioritizes apes over others. It lives on jungle trees, but the jungle trees it lives in are adorned with the skull of a baby ape. It lives for 100 days and it stays inactive for 2 nights before it goes hunting, the first thing it does is use its incredible echolocation to get a picture of its surroundings, than it will move 4 times before returning to its tree, attacking and stunning every ape in the area. It will ignore nichelings unless they are too close to its tree or if they have 2 gems. It will also steal fruit.
  17. The balance bear is meant to be the ape level creature of the mountains, but its too weak! It has little attack and defence, meaning in won't really cause much harm, also et only moves once every night, so you are safe as long as you are one tile away. The poor thing definitely needs a buff.
  18. Well, it will always prefer the biggest food, like a walrus deer carcass or A berry bush forest, It would probably like insects and honey too.
  19. Its size can range from a bit larger than a dodomingo from nicheling size. Also it would probably choke if it tried to swallow a curled up pythadillo, so thats a great defense!
  20. Good point. The growl is meant to symbolize intimidation, so its not just a growl, but I think the pythadillo and the glutton would be great rivals! The pythadillo could sometimes constrict the glutton, and sometimes the glutton could scare it away with its claws! It would be a preetyeven fight.
  21. Thanks for the art! About the collecting thing, im not sure, its cool but my original concept is that the honey is easy to gather for anyone. But It makes sense for the claws to have a chance of breaking the hive.
  22. Honey is an amazing food source! Bee hives can be found in trees of any kind, or more rarely on the ground. Any nicheling can gather honey, no matter its genes, and you can gather as much as you want without emptying the hive. You can get 2 food points every time you gather, it does not seem like much, but you dont need specialized genes and it never runs out. Gathering honey causes nichelings to be covered in it, giving them a sweet smell, and other pack mates can lick the honey to get one extra food. However, gathering too much honey can anger the bees, causing them to sting you. At first each sting will only remove one turn from the nichelings, but many consecutive stings can cause damage, creatures with stinky tail have a lower chance of being stung, and those with armored body are completely immune to stings. You can attack the hive to break a piece which gives 5 food, and you can attack it 4 times before destroying it, giving a total of 20 food, however, this will stop honey production and enrage the bees, which will ignore stinky tail and armor body in this case. It takes a few days for the hive to recover a broken piece, and hives are rare, so you dont want to destroy one. If its on a tree, only flying creatures can gather from it, but you can shake the tree to bring down a honey comb, but shaking it often can break a piece or bring the whole hive down, so hives on the ground are better. They can be found from medium to killer islands. Genes: narrow snout: lets you eat the bees( unlocked by getting stung 50 times) honey paw: lets you gather one extra food point from honey if genes identical, also gives 1 gathering and 1 strength. ( Unlocked by inviting a nicheling with that gene and having all other honey genes.) Long tongue( It says tongue but its a snout gene): Can get 1 extra food point from licking honey. ( Unlocked by licking honey 100 times) Honey eating creatures: Honey glutton: A mix between a wolverine and a honey badger, this guy does not give a dam about anything, the fiercest creature in niche, it rarely hurts nichelings, but it will eat anything, from nuts to fish to bunnies and berries( It will sometimes destroy a berry bush because it does not care) but its favorite food is honey, it will fiercely guard a give, eating the bees, honey and sometimes breaking a piece, but sometimes it will go away, letting you gather. It cant reach honey on trees. It moves one tile every time a nicheling moves, and it has little defense, but If any creature gets near it, I will make and intimidating growl which will even scare away an ape! Nichelings affected by the growl cant interact with the glutton, essentially making it invincible, and letting it go on its merry way. They are rare, but will be more likely to spawn if there is honey. They can be found in any island with honey and live 50 days. Rarely, it can do a special attack that ignores defence and spikyness. honey parrot: A yellow parrot like bird which will fly around hives in trees. It will perch on the tree and gather honey, and if a nicheling tries to steal its honey, it will make a call which will instantly enrage the bees and it can cause a predator to come near. You can hunt it or lick the honey it gathers. It can be found in any island with honey.
