Thrust to weight ratio and possibly other stats in editor

VoidBeast

Post

Well, I just started playing with this just a little bit ago, but it definitely seems like a lot of fun. But I definitely felt a little lost after coming from KSP with all its stats, and I found that not knowing my TWR at least made it into a big guessing game as to how many thrusters to put on a drone. Of course, I'm sure with experience one would have a better idea of how much thrust to have, but having this information available from the start, or at least unlockable at some point, would make the design flow much smoother, I think. But apart from that, I think it seems quite fun! I'll keep playin with it and see what I can come up with. =D

Thank you very much for this suggestion. I would also like to see more stats :) KSP of course is much more physically accurate and has a whole simulation which makes sense, whereas we just tweak the values as we think it's the most fun :)

But I also think that it would be useful to see a total usage/production/capacity statistics for fuel and energy somewhere in the editor to eliminate guesswork and make drones more efficient :)

Yes, that would also be useful! I mean, you basically can get that information now anyway, but you have to keep going into test flight to see if you have enough fuel/battery/thrust, and then if (when) you don't, go back and edit it again, then rinse and repeat. Since it doesn't really change the balance of the game, it would just be a nice little convenience to help get into the actual action quicker by eliminating a lot of the repetition involved. So instead of build, test, build, test, build, test etc. it would be just build, test and (conditional) build if you don't like it after the test.  😃 And yes, I know it doesn't really have the whole physics simulation, but since you aren't actually trying to reach orbit here, it would actually carry a lot more information in a very simple package, since most of the values for these kinds of stats wouldn't change like they do in KSP, since we aren't dealing with atmospheric pressure, drag, lift, etc.

I would display it in the editor by lists of thruster groupings.  Each key that controls thrusters is a grouping, and you can list each key, with a sum of the thrust it generates.

Some won't be useful - for instance, tank-style controls, which use the same thrusters for turning and moving forward, will probably list eight groupings for four actual controls - unless it can follow the logic all the way from the inputs to the thrusters, in which case twelve groupings for four control keys. (Forward, back, turn left and right.)  But the operator should be able to make sense of his own groupings, too.

This would be fantastic.

Even just being able to view the total mass for your drone would be a great help as you could roughly calculate thrust requirement for the size of the drone you're making.

Also, maybe show what % of thrust you lose when on a planet with the -thrust transmitter? I hate that one btw...
