Burning Savanna Experiments

Chiyanna

Recommended Posts

So I had an idea to just have nichelings that watch the creatures of an island but don't reallly interact with them a while ago. And I especially thought that they could observe bearyenas.

Then somebody said I wonder if you can have balance bears in burning savanna. So I decided to find out. Hence this was born.

My starters:

They begin their exploration of the island. The first animal they discover...a mole!

One of them has double immunities and thus is sick, but it doesn't matter because I have environment damage and hunger damage set to 0. I come to hate this later...because it makes things more boring and because I don't think even the wanderers and bearyenas can bleed, take fire damage, etc. Though I don't know for sure.

This becomes one of the groups as the flying drones go out all over the island.

This is everything we can smell around us by the end of day 1. Mostly plants and a couple moles.

Hey we discovered another mole!

Drone 7 proudly looks at the mole they discovered. She isn't going to hunt it, because it is in the drones' oath to not hurt any creature on the island unless absolutely necessary, even ones that hurt them, like bearyenas!

Also if anyone is interested in doing this for themself, here's the challenge rules:

Choose an island that you are interested in observing/doing experiments on

Create your starter nichelings. They should have double wings (either bat, bird or both) and be adapted to whatever island they are on. You should have at least one water-nicheling with swimming fin and water body to explore aquatic life on the island (unless your island has no water tiles like burning savanna [I made the mistake of still giving myself a water-adapted nciheling]).

Give yourself however much food and nesting material you want (I did 300 each)

Set up your world settings for your experiment, (I kept everything enabled)

I set my lifespan to 1 baby, 1 child, 1 teen, 100 adult, but you can set it to whatever works best for you.

I set my damage multipliers Environment and hunger X0, Damage X1, Healing X1. I have now decided I would rather have Enviroment X2, Hunger X1, Damage X2, Healing X2, but you can do whatever would work best for your current island you're exploring or experiment.

You may use  certain commands. You may use increasespawn for the sake of experiments. You may also use changeberrycount so you don't starve, or you may collect food (or both). You can only use takedamage and deleteobject on your own nichelings. You may use moveobject if you need to for an experiment. You can use setgene only to give wings to wanderers you want to invite into your tribe, or for the sake of an experiment.

The Drone Code of Conduct:

(my starters are called drones so that's why this is named what it is, you can change it if you like. This Code of Conduct is how the nichelings should ideally behave, but it can be broken both for practical and story reasons. However, the leader of the expedition/head scientist/tribe leader may punish individuals who break it)

1. You must harm the creatures you are studying as little as possible. You may not harm things that would not harm you.

2. No killing! Even creatures that are attacking you or likely to attack you. You are here to study them! So fly away if you must, or sit just outside of their range to see if they really would attack you.

3. You must leave food to eat for the creatures of the island and the native nichelings. You may collect berries, nuts, roots, etc. But you must leave some! Leave a few berries on the bush, don't collect every nut on the ground, leave some roots buried as you go along.

4. No inviting wanderers into the tribe.

5. Breeding with wanderers is discouraged. It is allowed, however.

6. You cannot simply run away from anger. You must get close enough to the action to observe it! Be a couple tiles away if you must.

7. There must be a leader or a group of leaders at all times who make decisions and punish those who break the code.

8. The tribe may break up into different groups observing and exploring different things. The members of each group must use their own judgment about how to best follow the code.

(suggest any changes)

(also what command is used to spawn balance bears? I used increasespawn icebearfox a couple times and nothing happened

you're doing the right thing, you just need to type it in 9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 times.

I put double beak in 4's mutation menu cause I really want it in the family.

My nichelings begin sitting in trees and cracking undeveloped nuts

Our tree look-outs and ground scouts of this group!

The other group

Our first bearyena spotted!

This group, which I shall call group #2, has found and broken open an aggressive termite hill! They begin to eat the termites, but note the tiny bugs trying to bite them as they do, and realize that when it sounds this way it is probably bad to try and eat them for most nichelings. The Drones, however, are immune.

They find another different sounding termite hill. It's next to a nest, too! They prepare to crack this one open as well to see what happens.

Drone 6 has struck out on their own! So far they've only found a cactus.

The leader has come over to assist the drone that found the bearyena. They hear a cub rustling in the grass. They have found a mother and her cub!

Uhh that's not exactly how it works, you could put another useful mutation in the mutation menu, having double the same gene in mutations doesn't increase the chance of getting it.

Rais caught the sickness. It still does nothing, however

These two loose track of the bearyena mother and cub for a moment overnight.

OH ANOTHER BEARYENA AND ITS ATTACKING A PREGNANT FEMALE AHHHH....wait calm down...remember...we are here to observe the local wildlife and predator damage is only *1 with 100 adult lifespan... (also yes she is the one the rogue got, there's actually a cool story that develops out of that later)

(oh it's another mother and cub pair, nice) The pregnant female who I now see is named Drone 2 flees while her friend observes the mother and cub from the safety of a tree. She accidentally lands on a nest and I subsequently freak out

HEEEEY the sick one is named Drone 7 and spots a wanderer from her tree perch.

He is named Duknupri and she instantly falls in love with him, dispite being told not to become mates with the local residents.
