Nightfire Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Hopefully my first playthrough doesn't flop, I've been wanting to do one of these for a while now The Beginning (1-10 days in) Two near-identical twin sisters, Truffle and Brownie, find themselves stranded on a strange, cold island. T: "What is this place? It's so big!" B: "I have no idea, but it's super cold here.." After 2 days, the sisters reach a large pinetree. Truffle sniffs at it curiously, sitting in the shade, as Brownie stays in the slightly-warmer grasses. Truffle then stretches against it, dragging 2 long scratch marks along the bark. That night, the twins become teens. T: "We should go explore now! I wonder what sort of stuff is on this mountain!" B: "I'd prefer to stay here and wrap myself up in this grass." T: "Oh come on! Just for a few days? Pleasseee?" B: "Fine. But if my tall falls off, I'll rip yours off." T: "I'd like to see you try!" Truffle climbs up onto a huge stump, and looks off into the distance. She sees a funny rock. T: "Look over there! What is that thing?" B: "I don't know. But it might be dangerous." T: scoffs "How could a rock be dangerous?" The next day, a strange blood-red creature stumbles out of the darkness. Truffle goes over to introduce herself. T: "Hello sir! My name is Truffle and this is my sister, Brownie. I was wondering if-" The weird-looking male turns away from Truffle, and begins to walk away. T: "How rude!" The next day, cold fuzz balls began to fall from the sky. T: "Look at these little stars! They're so pretty!" Brownie lets one land on her nose. B: "These things are so cold! And there's so many! Warmth. Now." Truffle looks across the cold wasteland. T: "Where do you think we can find warmth?" B: "Oh, I don't know, the grass!?" T: "I still wanna see what the funny rock was, though. Please?" B: "No, we are going back to the-" Truffle ran off. As snow began to pile along the mountain, She sniffs at the funny rock. B: "Grass now or I'm leaving you with your rock." T: "There's something inside it, though." Brownie notices some smoke coming from weird pools of water. She hops in one. B: "Hotsprings! Get in here now!" Truffle notices the funny rock begin to disintegrate thanks to the smoke. She pokes the rock with her paw and it shatters, revealing a shivering baby elephant-looking thing. T: "Hi! I'm Truffle, and this is Brownie. What's your name?" ?: "My n-name is Lula.." B: "Well, welcome to our tribe, Lula." L: "Th-Thanks!" She immediately snuggles up between Brownie and Truffle, and falls asleep. Instant attachment. 6
Nightfire Posted December 7, 2020 Author Posted December 7, 2020 The First Dangers (11-20 days in) Soon, Lula grows into a teen. She sticks her trunk into the snow, and pulls out a slightly-wet root. T: "Woah! How'd you do that!?" Truffle sniffs at the patch of dirt with curiosity. L: "It's pretty easy. If you had a trunk like I do, I could show you. But you can also dig with your paws." Truffle hops back into the hotspring. The cold snow makes her paws tingle. Meanwhile, Brownie feels uneasy as she gazes into the darkness. Is something going on out there? OH NO Brownie hears a terrible fate over on the mountain. They had wandered into the territory of a great predator! A few short nichelings were currently fighting it, but the fat white bear looked hungry. B: "RUN. NOW." Truffle was confused as her sister dragged them down the snowy slope. Then, she caught a whiff of the bear. Lula found it hard to keep up with her frogfeet. Then, Lula spots something over the snow, and starts freaking out. Is that what they're running from? A chunk of horned, walking blubber? Or, the giant bear looming over them from its territory? Probably the bear. The thick snow made it very hard to get down the mountain. And when the grim reaper is chasing you, that's all the more terrifying. L: "How are we gonna get away from that thing!?" B: "Just keep running! Don't ask questions!" Brownie and Truffle grew into adults, though not in the best of situations. Meanwhile, the flesh-monster had made its way down to our party, and started sniffing at Lula, who flinched away. L: "What is this thing?" T: "I have no idea, but it might be hungry, too." As the weird deer left our heroes, they noticed the bear again, and continued our amazingly undetailed chase scene. OH NO Seems like the blubber-deer had been running for a reason. T: "We're surrounded! Where do we go!?" B: "Just keep going! When the snow starts melting we can get away! hopefully." Lula was frozen in fear for a minute before sprinting away from the gruesome beasts. She had never dealt with these monsters before! As Lula became an adult, two strange males also showed up. Too encapsulated in the threat at hand, our heroes paid little attention to them. One of them approached Truffle, and tried to become her mate. T: "This is not the time to ask me to be your mate. Also those giant bears are super friendly go ask them instead." B: "No they're not! Run away!" The male left. OH CRAP- OH NO OH C R A P I didn't even use increasespawn command what are the chances T: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA There's another!" B: "Uhh- just- keep going! I'll figure something out!" Lula squeaked, but there was a bit more hurry in her steps. The land between our heroes and freezing over was shortening. And with 3 hungry bears chasing the trio, how will they survive? cliffhanger time wahahaha 4

Nightfire Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 The Melting Snows (21-30 days in) Our three heroes run down the mountain, with the three bears chasing them. A bluebird watches from above, waiting for the first to drop. Brownie noticed the nearby waters, and turned around swiftly. B: "This way!" Truffle and Lula were too terrified to notice the change in terrain, and followed Brownie without a second thought. (ignore the nicheling in the top-right. He'll be dead by tomorrow) The three nichelings made their way around the bears, quite literally juking them. T: "Ha! Take that you big fat behinds!" The bears noticed the group thanks to Truffle's remark. B: "GREAT GOING!" Cornered by the bears, only a miracle could save them now! What will they ever d- Oh wait, I forgot. This is a story. So a miracle must happen. The snow begins melting on perfect queue. Truffle immediately begins sprinting away from the hungry enemies. Brownie and Lula follow swiftly after. The first time I do a playthrough I get the luck equivalent as myself using like 20 cheats what's going on The bears are able to keep up with Lula easily. The frog-footed nicheling begins to feel the unbearable cold. And the group begins to separate.. 2 days later. Truffle and Brownie have escaped the bears and can no longer hear their furious roars. Brownie climbs onto a stump, while Truffle realizes they're missing someone. T: "Wait.. where did Lula go?" B: "I don't know. She must be coming, right?" Lula had been separated from Truffle and Brownie. As she stood on a stump, calling out for them, she began to freeze. I'm so sorry little one As soon as snow began to fall, Truffle raced off into the darkness to find Lula. But Brownie called her back. B: "Truffle! It's fine. She's coming.. right?" T: "LULLLAAA!!" Lula didn't call back, even if she wanted to. Truffle stared off into the darkness. She was about to run off, when Brownie looked at her sadly. Brownie knew that Lula was dead. Intentional or not, she had sacrificed her life for her newfound friends. Truffle felt terrible, like it was her fault Lula died. T: "It's all my fault.. if I hadn't been so happy the snow had melted and had paid attention to where Lula was, this all wouldn't have happened!" B: "No, it's not. We just need to focus on ourselves now. Her death was not in vain.." Even Brownie felt the cold sadness of Lula's death. She will always be remembered as a brave hero. I hate you balance bears asdfghjkl Truffle stared off at the cold wasteland. How could this cursed land be so terrible? Lula was barely spared from it, and now their efforts to keep that weird-little elephant alive had failed. They had failed her. This is part of the reason why I didn't want to do one of these. I have never been so attached to a nicheling before. Lula's death will be avenged.. also I swear that wasn't intentional 7
Nightfire Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 Under Cold Truths (31-43 days in) In the days after Lula's passing, the sisters shared a mutual sadness. Both silently mourned the loss of their friend. Brownie knew they would need to move on if they were to survive, while Truffle found it hard to accept that Lula was gone. (ignore the bones I have no idea who those creatures were. Also, you won't see any snow falling for a few screenshots. For some reason.) Brownie stared off to distant shores. As much as she wanted to get out of this terrible mountain, she couldn't leave her sister here on this frozen tundra. So she stayed. Truffle was planning to go to the peaks of the mountain, like an urge she needed to fill, but the thick snow stopped her. She would need to stay with Brownie. The two ventured off to find a new home. One hotspring wouldn't work. Brownie considered returning to where Truffle had broken Lula free, but too many bad memories. Though it would've been the best option. A bluebird circled the sisters from above. Brownie wondered if it was Lula's spirit, watching them from the skies. B: thinking "That bird is free. It has no cares for heavy snow or cold paws. What a lucky creature." The cold air continued to freeze the sisters, as the chilling frozen state that had assisted in Lula's death began to overtake the two. Brownie scouted out for new hotsprings, while Truffle noticed something under her paws. T: thinking "Roots. Lula promised to teach me how to dig these up.." As the snow began to pile once more, Brownie felt the churning cold. In a day's time, she would freeze over.. Truffle warmed Brownie and immediately let her in a hotsprings, but the frostbite had already taken effect. Without Lula to help warm them, they would freeze over. And the sisters went off to closer hotsprings. If lucky, no more stupid bears would attack them. The snow stopped as they reached one, but Truffle had frozen. T: "It's so cold here.." B: "I'm very aware of it, that's why we're trying to reach these stupid hotsprings! What do you think we've been doing for the last I-don't-know-how-many days?" The cold had made Brownie irritated and easily angered. Truffle, though she understood her sister's frustration, felt a bit hurt. Brownie ended up freezing again. She would need to reach the hotsprings to start healing her frostbitten body. obviously Truffle uncovered a plant she could harvest from until the snow had melted. She began to heal from the cold, too. But her mind was in a different place; where was Lula? Is she still alive? Did she freeze over again? Was she.. dead? No. Lula was smart. She was completely fine. But in the back of her mind, Truffle knew the cold truth; Lula is dead. Brownie, meanwhile, had reached her own hotspring, and began healing herself. She stared at the sky, wondering when the snow would fall again. Wondering when the next attack would happen. But for now, she and Truffle were safe. That was all that mattered. 4

Nightfire Posted December 10, 2020 Author Posted December 10, 2020 Tip of the Iceberg (44-59) Truffle had a run-in with another blubber-deer. She had a slight hatred for the creatures, of whom had not assisted in fighting off the bears. It looked like these beasts could've fought off the bears, but didn't. Or maybe they couldn't. As she goes out to hunt a rabbit, she notices something fishy in the snows. Oh. Just a short nicheling. Brownie had noticed something changed in Truffle. The once happy-go-lucky cheerful nicheling had a new quiet maturity. Although she would never admit it, Brownie wished that Truffle would still be the annoying sister she once was. The next day, the short nicheling attacked Truffle. She quickly killed it (though felt bad for the horned thing), in fear of what it might do. Turns out, it was an elderly short nicheling. Ah well. Seems like it had brought some friends, too. Poor old nichelings. Ookkkayyyyy, that's quite a few friends. Maybe the sisters should leave this area. Plus, the cold air had been taking a break. T: "Uhh. There's a few nichelings up there.." B: "Friends?" T: "Not exactly.. just, start going down the mountain.." The two sisters start making their way down the mountain, Brownie confused, Truffle slightly spooked. The snow finally begins to melt! Brownie tries to hunt a rabbit, while Truffle sniffs for another. A funny man tries to mate with Truffle, but she isn't interested in having a child at the moment. Instead, she bites him. He leaves. As the sisters climb some stumps and scout out for some rabbits while the cold air is gone, they spot a familiar rock. Immediate ptsd. And soon, they go up to the rock. Brownie nudges Truffle forwards to shatter it like she once did. Truffle remembers Lula with a piercing guilt. T: "No. You do it." B: "Are you sure?" T: "Positive.." Brownie shrugs as she steps forwards. And out came another little child. Truffle gave a mental note to protect this one with her life. T: "What's your name?" ?: "I'm Sycamore!" That was my first custom-randomly generated name this playthrough eyy B: "I'm Brownie. and this is-" T: "Truffle." S: "So nice to meet you!" Then, Sycamore sneezed. She was ill. DANGIT Still determined to protect her, Truffle led the sickly child to a hotsprings. It'll atleast slow her death. B: "Are you sure you're safe next to Sycamore?" T: "Y-Yes! Perfectly fine!" Then. Disaster struck. As Brownie was keeping little Sycamore warm, she didn't notice a strange male breed with her until it was too late. DANGIT B: "What is wrong with you? You can't just mate with random nichelings!" She lashed out and struck the male over the head. He stumbled away. Now, there was another, potentially ill, child on the way. This is bad. And then! Some more short nichelings showed up, to add to all this chaos. As the sisters were helping Sycamore reach the hotsprings while being carefully away, Truffle spotted another bear. Her rage from Lula's death came boiling back, and she turned into protective-mother mode. Two days later. Sycamore had reached the hotsprings and was now a teen, safe from the cold. All seemed relatively well, until Truffle remembered the bear. It would surely eat Sycamore if the little nicheling wasn't careful. She would need to act fast.. 6
Nightfire Posted December 11, 2020 Author Posted December 11, 2020 New Arrivals (60-70 days in) When Truffle and Brownie reach the new hotsprings, Truffle turns back after Brownie tires out. She runs back for Sycamore. B: "Wait!" Truffle doesn't listen, like she used to. Better be careful about what you wish for, Brownie Soon, she gets Sycamore and they begin to go back to Brownie. S: "You know I'm fine here, right?" T: "No, you're not. That bear will eat you." S: "How do you know?" T: ptsd "I- I have experience with the bears. Just, trust me." Sycamore hesitantly jumps into the frozen waters. S: "If you say so." A lone short nicheling attacks Sycamore. As the small nicheling jumps away, Truffle leaps down and slashes the nicheling dead. Sycamore looks terrified, but Truffle is firm to her vow. She would protect Sycamore with her life. Not another Lula incident. T: "Keep going, or we'll freeze. There's more hotsprings, I promise." S: "I trust you, how else would Brownie and her little baby survive?" T: "How- how did you know Brownie was expecting? You were so young.." S: playfully "I- I have experiences with pregnant nichelings." Truffle chuckles, but feels the heat of the situation. If only she could feel said heat. Truffle sat in the hotsprings for another minute, before following Sycamore out. Immediately, another short nicheling leaped out. They slipped past the angered animal. Meanwhile. Brownie had smelt meat in the distance, but upon investigation, she found more short nichelings. For now, she would stay in the hotsprings. 2 more days. As Sycamore and Truffle reunited, Sycamore was struggling to get past the unwelcome invaders. And then, Truffle and Brownie froze. She was met with a decision; save herself, and reach the shore, or save Truffle, Brownie, and Brownie's child. Sycamore warmed up Truffle and Brownie, but in the process, made them ill. A worthy sacrifice for the greater good; Sycamore decided that their long lives and unborn baby were better than her short one. The sisters reached hotsprings, and quickly became healthy again. Sycamore sat in the water, smiling slightly. In her life, she would've never reached adulthood. She had so little time to do good. And she had been able to save 3, possibly 4, creatures. She was contempt with this. And she was gone. Then, Brownie was finally able to nest, though both somber and sad. This was the second creature that had sacrificed for them. Were they really that useless on this terrible Frozen Empire? roll credits After she had her baby, Brownie saw danger approaching the nest. She shook her head. No. They were not useless, they were just waiting for their turn to save someone. The two sisters sat beside each other and prepared for battle. For honor, for life, and for the survival of the tribe. 6
Nightfire Posted December 15, 2020 Author Posted December 15, 2020 Growing Forces (70-78 days in) This is Quartz, Brownie's child. Meanwhile. Truffle and Brownie were obliterating the short nichelings. Truffle imagined them as the great bears that had tormented her and Brownie their entire lives. The cowardly nichelings retreated, and died of their wounds. Foolish mortals could never face the great strength the sisters bore, known as plot armor! Wahahaha! Truffle, Brownie and Quartz began to inch inwards. A strange nicheling came from the seas. That's not Ariel B: "Get away from us, you creep." And the sisters inched some more. Travelling with a child is hard. Annnnddddd some more. So close.. And there! Truffle leaped out at the rabbits, and sliced them down. Food for the next few days. B: "Please, not near my child." Q: "Auntie strong. Auntie good." Brownie was concerned deeply. Now, the snow began melting. This was good, Quartz would become a teen soon. Brownie climbed up a stump and called out. A male bearing the claw of a warrior came out of the darkness. B: "Hello! What's your name?" ?: "My name is Harecatcher. But you can call me Hare." B: "Where's your tribe? That's not a name rogues usually have." H: flinches slightly "That doesn't matter. Can I join your tribe?" B: "Of course!" Hare joined the tribe. He would bring the tribe to great strengths and even greater rewards. 2 3

Nightfire Posted December 19, 2020 Author Posted December 19, 2020 The Empire Begins (79-83 days in) So much stuff happens in like 4 seconds niche-time so try to keep up Hare introduces himself to Truffle and Quartz. H: "Hello! My name is Harecatcher." T: "Are you the new nicheling my sister invited?" H: "Yeah. What's your name?" T: "I'm Truffle, and this is my niece, Quartz. Nice to meet you, Harecatcher." H: "Oh, you can just call me Hare." Q: "Harecatcher funny name. Hare better." Hare proceeded to die inside. H: "What's that?" T: "That's a trapped nicheling! We need to go rescue it!" H: "Oh, let's start g-" Truffle had already sprinted off. The party reached the trapped nicheling. Truffle stayed back and watched for the others to catch up, while Brownie got ready to smash it open. B: "Quartz, watch carefully." This was a terrible shot but Quartz is behind the rock The rock smashed open as Brownie struck it down. Another elephant came out. Truffle got ptsd of Lula, but calmed herself down for the sake of her family. They wouldn't need her heart attack to become frightened of the elephant. ?: "About time somebody let me out of there. It's been so long!" B: "Excuse me? What's you-" ?: "My name is Wikku." T: "Welcome to the tribe." Wikku sniffed the air, dissatisfied. W: "Where's some food? I'm starving!" B: "Here. Some berries." W: "I prefer roots over your stale excuses for berries, but fine." Quartz made a face, and Hare pulled Truffle aside. H: "Wikku is.. annoying. And so snarky." T: "Yeah. He's going to be a pain in the tail. What did you need? Some air away from him?" H: "No. I was gonna tell you all why I'm named Harecatcher, but that behind ruined the mood." T: "You can tell me. I won't tell him, I promise." H: "Thanks... "When I was little, I lived in a tribe full of fierce warriors. I was named Harecatcher after my father, Hareslayer. But, I was born with a twisted snout, so I was banished. They chased me down and I almost froze, when I found a hotsprings, and stayed there for my childhood. But then, I returned as an adult to prove my worthiness and rejoin, but the tribe had vanished." Truffle thought for a second. T: "Why would they ever banish such a young child? You don't need those terrible nichelings. We can form a tribe. We can make an empire, where nobody goes hungry!" H: "Really?" T: "Yeah! We can travel from island to island and rescue nichelings who were banished and trapped in the rocks!" H: "That's a great idea!" Truffle then began expecting a child with Hare. Truffle mother arc because she's gonna die soon While returning, a strange male came from the darkness. Truffle protected the tribe from him. Oh and also Quartz is a teen now. Then Quartz proceeded to murder the man in cold blood. Maybe murder wasn't such a good thing to teach young Quartz. But Truffle's mind was wandering as she gazed at the mountain. Such a small tribe, with such a large quest. And such a dangerous world. How could they save every nicheling? They had failed Lula and Sycamore. And plus, old age was beginning to wear down the sister's morale. She sunk into Hare's fur. If there's a will, there's a way. Even if she herself couldn't save every creature, Hare would lead the tribe to a great future, even if Truffle herself wouldn't be alive while he did so. W: "Ugh. Why is the snow so thick? I'm freezing!" Q: "Can you stop complaining for 5 seconds?" Truffle was brought back into reality. Hare might have his work cut out for him after Truffle and Brownie pass. Luckily, he still had a lot of time. 3 2

Nightfire Posted December 22, 2020 Author Posted December 22, 2020 Frosty Farewell (84-92 days in) Get your tissues The tribe moved slowly for 4 days as the blizzard snows whizzed by. They pressed together to stay warm. Wikku complained constantly, until Quartz threatened to throw him into the ocean. Truffle, though remembering her visions of a beautiful tribe, didn't comment. And then. There it was. Another bear. Another creature of the tundra that continuously tore the tribe apart. From the pack of them that killed Lula, the seaside one that was going to eat Sycamore, and now this one, arriving 2 days before Truffle's child. W: "What's that thing? Does it have fresh meat?" Q: snorts "Yeah. You, it's going to eat you. Oh wait, you're too rotten." Truffle began to feel an unbearable rage, but kept her cool. T: "We need to run. Now." The tribe began to run. W: "It's so cold here! Where are we even going?" T: "Just go that way! And don't look back!" Quartz and Wikku grew into adults on the same day. But Wikku didn't stop complaining until, this time, Quartz swatted at his trunk. Truffle needed to have her child here, or she wouldn't be able to fully raise it. As the tribe formed a meat-barrier, she created a nest. The bear took no prisoners. As a little nicheling was born, it growled from afar. Even Wikku, the snooty, overconfident elephant trembled. This is Thornbush, Truffle's child. (Ignore the starvation; it won't be relevant to the plot in anyway. Will use changeberrycount often) The bear loomed over Truffle and Brownie. The tribe began to scatter, but Truffle snarled and landed a blow, before sitting beside her child. She would defend Thornbush, no matter the cost. Lula and Sycamore had rescued the sisters before. It was Truffle's turn to rescue Thornbush. The bear stared down at her, and snarled viciously. "Run, foolish nicheling." it seemed to be saying. Truffle stared back in its eyes as she attacked it. She would not run, she would save her child, and her tribe. H: "Truffle! Come on!" T: "I'm not leaving Thornbush here!" Even Wikku had a look of sadness and fear in his eyes. As the sun set, Truffle braced herself. Hare would be a brilliant father to Thornbush. Quartz had learned well from her and Brownie. Wikku would, hopefully, mature. Brownie would live to see herself when she would grow old, and live with her child. But most of all, she would see Lula and Sycamore again. And they would watch the beautiful Frozen Empire form from the beyond. She sat in the shade of a pinetree upon her downfall, and thought back to that first day on the cold island. She would have never thought that, 90 days from then, she would have seen nichelings die, she would have seen nichelings be saved, nichelings who had been wronged and who had been righted. In her place, a small, twisted-snout child would prosper. Thornbush would continue her mother's legacy. But for now, as she opens her eyes for the first time, all she sees are her bones. 7
Nightfire Posted December 27, 2020 Author Posted December 27, 2020 Legacy Lives On (93-99 days in) Hare, although in shock, raced in after Truffle's demise and picked up Thornbush. She was his last link to Truffle, and hopefully would hold the same enthusiastic kindness as his mate had. The tribe backed away from the bear. Thornbush couldn't keep up very well with the tribe, but Hare swore to defend her, like Truffle had. Was she watching them from the afterlife? The bear charged towards Brownie. The twisted creature wanted to destroy the sisters' thoughts of a happy retirement for their final days. She wouldn't let that happen, and slashed the bear before leaping back. Vengeance filled her mind and a sickening rage clogged her vision. The bear was going to kill the tribe if they didn't fight back, but they couldn't run or Thornbush would be taken by a hawk, or worse, savaged by the bear. Plus, it didn't matter if they ran. The bear would chase them until their paws fell off and then some. The tribe swerved suddenly. Hare looked for a place to go as he held Thornbush tightly. The confused but mortified child was silently crying. As Wikku passed by the bear, he tried to land a blow to its furry arms, but failed. He hadn't complained in a while, and seemed to have matured from his old ways. Brownie felt a surge of pride for him. If I don't stop this bear, it'll kill him and Quartz, Hare, Thornbush.. I need to fight it. Brownie faced the bear as cold winds chilled her bones. This was her fight, she had to win it. Or, all this was for nothing. Their efforts, failed. From that day Truffle dragged her out onto the tundra and they had discovered Lula, her life would change forever. For the good, and for the worse. After holding off the bear for a moment, she leaped back to help the tribe stay warm. They would always be her priority. They braced themselves for the malicious creature over in the shadows. The bear snarled at Hare and Brownie. (Also now Thornbush is a teen so she ran for the hills) B: "Hare! Run! Go with the tribe!" H: "I'm not leaving you here. I wasn't raised in a tribe of cruel nichelings born to kill for a reason." Except I wasn't raised there. They threw me out. B: "Fine, but you better not die. Thornbush needs you." The bear came over the horizon. It was now or never. And it was over. Hare's guilt for getting Truffle killed. Brownie's anger over the bear. Thornbush's threat. Quartz and Wikku were safe. Everyone was safe. All was good. And most of all, they had learned how to defeat the horrible bears that had hurt them for generations. B: "I.. can't believe that bear killed Truffle." H: "Me.. either.. she was a great leader and an even better Mother." A moment of silence happened as each nicheling thought of Truffle. B: "Long ago, three bears tore apart a nicheling Truffle swore to protect, named Lula. We lost her in a blizzard when she couldn't keep up. With her sacrifice, Truffle blamed herself for Lula's death, and vowed to defend the tribe with her life from then on." Hare was listening intently as he thought of Lula. A small, docile nicheling that had been gone too soon. Brownie continued. "Several days later, we found another nicheling, named Sycamore. She was ill, and we left her in a hotsprings to heal without the dangers of her weakened immune system. Truffle smelled a bear nearby, and went back for Sycamore. In the end, Truffle and I were frozen. She decided to save us instead of save herself. Truffle blamed herself yet again, but Quartz had been born because of her actions." Hare imagined Sycamore, a deathly thin child who would disgrace any family in his birth tribe. "Then, after I invited you in, she saw Wikku. Wikku reminded her of Lula, both had the elephant snout. Truffle found it hard to look at Wikku without seeing Lula. When the bear showed up, she was first to risk her life after having Thornbush, and in the end, her death was not in vain. It never was in vain. It was an act of bravery, and an act of selflessness that Lula and Sycamore had. And now, she's in a better place." Hare looked at Brownie for a moment. He could see water lining her eyes slightly, but she was grinning a sad grin. Hare couldn't help but stare towards the skies. Then, Brownie spoke again. B: "And soon, I will be joining them." Hare stared at Brownie. H: "Come on, let's get back to the tribe." B: "You go on. I'm staying here. I don't want to cause Thornbush any more trauma." Hare looked back at Brownie, and saw her resemblance to Truffle. He stood for a second, and then nodded. Hare stared back at Brownie as she vanished into the darkness, never to be seen again. 6

That was sad. Can't wait for the next chap.😄 2
Nightfire Posted December 29, 2020 Author Posted December 29, 2020 Ancient Roots (100-106 days in) Q: "Uhh.. Does anyone else feel like we should be in immense danger?" The tribe spotted another bear. H: "Follow me!" The snow began to melt, as the bear began to chase the party. Hare noticed a reindeer-clawed spotted nicheling, and raced back. H: "What's your name?" ?: "I'm Kirasaf. But Kira is fine, too." H: "Would you like to join our tribe?" K: "YES ABSOLUTELY IT'S SO COLD HERE." Kira leaped on a rabbit and killed it. W: "How did you do that?" K: "It's fairly easy. You should try." Wikku killed his own rabbit. He proudly picked up the meat. K: "Great job! You'll learn over time how to hunt stronger predators, like that bear chasing us." Q: "Speaking of which, we should keep moving." H: "Yea, let's get going." Quartz scouted out the path ahead. The melting snows made it easy to see where the tribe should go next. Wikku then spot something. One, the snarling bear, and then, a crystal-looking rock. Curiosity killed the cat, and he ran out towards the crystal. Kira prepared to hold off the bear. Quartz sat for backup; although she disliked Wikku, they were still tribemates. And plus, he was pretty brave for doing such a stunt. The bear started chasing down Kira and Wikku. Thornbush and Hare kept their distance, and Quartz started distracting the bear. Or at least, attempting to do so. The bear leaped towards Kira and Wikku. Oops. As Kira and Wikku swerved, the bear stood in front of the crystal. It was guarding its prize, whatever was in it. Q: "What do we do now?" W: "I don't know. These are the things that killed Truffle. if she couldn't fight it, how could we?" Q: "Shut up about Truffle. She was old and weak. We're young and strong. We can do this." "auntie strong. auntie good. auntie weak. auntie bad." Wikku gave Quartz a sideway glance. There was a cold gaze in her eyes. What was Quartz thinking? W: "Fine, then you fight it yourself." Quartz avoided the remark. Hare and Thornbush jumped in with Kira. While Quartz and Wikku were arguing, they had slipped by the bear and were distracting it. H: "Go get the crystal and stop having your hissy fits!" Quartz and Wikku jumped forwards. They cracked open the crystal and pulled out a small child. W: "Be quiet, but what's your name?" ?: "I'm Sakura, daughter of King Iceberg and Queen Strawberry of the Snowfall tribe." Q: "Whose that and what tribe is that?" S: "Oh come on! You don't know the Snowfall tri-" Sakura looked around. S: "How.. long has it.. been.." W: "Be quiet you two." (Sakura's abilities) 4
Nightfire Posted January 3, 2021 Author Posted January 3, 2021 The Long-Lost and the Legends (107-112 days in) As Sakura, Wikku and Quartz all huddled together for warmth, Hare, Kira and Thornbush all faced the terrifying bear. Kira showed no fear towards the beast, while Hare fought on so Thornbush would be safe. He would not loose another to the great terrors. The bear continued to be lured away by the hunters so that the others could evade its wrath. Hare consistently stood between the bear and Thornbush, though the teen believed she could take on a bear anyday. The snow packed together, and movement became harder for our heroes. Lula, Truffle and Brownie flashbacks Meanwhile, Wikku had sniffed something in the nearby snows. A creature, trapped in the cold fuzz. Life was not getting easier for the hunters. As Thornbush matured, another bear came from mountain high. K: "Follow me! We need to find Wikku, Quartz, and whoever they got out of that iceberg." Oh, so that's what they're called, thought Hare. Meanwhile, Wikku freed the nicheling trapped in the snows. W: "Hello! We're kind of in a giant rush to get out of here before those bears show up and eat us, so really quickly, can you tell us what your name is?" ?: "I'm Snowchaser. I need to wait for my friend here, he said he'd be back from harvesting more worms out in the ocean for us." S: "We'll stay with you so you don't freeze." Do these peasants really not have lowers and servants with them all the time so they don't freeze? Sn: "Thanks." Sn stands for Snowchaser, since Sakura and Snowchaser both having S for dialogue would be very confusing The hunters began fleeing the bears. Kira had a plan, but it would have to work flawlessly or the party of hunters would become the hunted. They turned, and began heading towards the rest of the group. Kira saw them over the snows. An unnaturally dark-furred nicheling with a snout unlike any the empire had seen before emerged from the waves. ?: "Snowcatcher, you got some new friends?" Sn: "Yup. Apparently there's also a bear somewhere coming to kill us all." ?: "Oh great." The bear crashed through the snow. The group of five began to run. Sakura squealed with fright as she attempted to push Wikku out of her way to get away from the bear, but to no avail. These commoners are going to get me killed! Hare, Thornbush, and Kira reunited with the rest of the nichelings. T: "Which one came out of the iceberg?" S: "Me. And you all need to get in front of be before that thing eats me. Royalty comes first." K: sort of quietly "Well, you have the strongest body armor out of all of us. So, I'd say you stay between us and the balance bear." H: under his breath "Balance bear. What did they do to earn that name, kill some innocent children?" S: "Who even are you pea- tribemates?" H: "I'm Hare, short for Harecatcher. This is my daughter, Thornbush. And this is-" K: "Kirasaf. But I go by Kira." S: basically scanning Kira with her eyes "Your name sounds familiar. My father mentioned something about a general named-" K: "General Pyresaf and his mate, Kira? I was named after them as most are." S: "You're a Snowfall nicheling!" T: "Can we just keep going so we don't get slaughtered? You can have your happy reunion later." Half the tribe was split from the other half. The bears were after Kira. The hunters and Snowchaser hung back a bit to help her fight them off. 4 1
Nightfire Posted January 8, 2021 Author Posted January 8, 2021 Tensions From Within (113-117 days in) Shorter issue today, since there's a lot of reading and my hands hurt So, for day 113, the screenshots I took vanished, which was really a shame because it was a large part of today's post. But basically, Wikku held off the balance bears for Thornbush, and she realized how much he's grown, from complaining and snobby to brave and selfless. Then they became mates, and began expecting a child. Quartz began to spite Thornbush for liking Wikku, and thought that the tribe must be strong and well-disciplined under a good leader, unlike current unofficial leader, Hare. Then, all nichelings would be equal, and the ones whose only ability was to complain would be banished. So basically niche communism The tribe went in to rescue Quartz, Snowchaser, and Kira. Thornbush was surrounded so she wouldn't get hurt too badly. They cleared an escape for the three of them. ?: "Alright, that should do it. Hurry up now, unless you want to become bear food." Q: narrows eyes "What's even your name, beakface?" The strange nicheling bit his lip, if he had one, at the word 'beakface'. Snowchaser jumped in. Sn: "His name is Voidwalker. Call him beakface again and the bears are getting fed." Q: "How exactly do you expect to feed them?" Quartz sat in a way that made her basically unmovable. Kira slapped her head. K: "Shut up or we'll leave you bleeding out here." Her claws glinted in the sunlight. Quartz didn't comment. The tribe began to leave the area. Snowchaser stayed between Voidwalker and Quartz. Quartz was incredibly unsettled by the fact she had to stay next to Wikku and her traitor-of-a-cousin, Thornbush. Meanwhile, Sakura and Kira spoke to each other. S: "How long was it since the reign of my parents? My sister, Torrent, was going to challenge them for leadership before the blizzard hit." K: "I was just a child when the blizzard hit. So maybe 80 days ago. You're somewhat lucky that you got trapped in the iceberg, otherwise you would be as old as I am now." S: "But how did you last it?" K: "Let me think.. Pyresaf, Kira, my older brother Pyre, and I tried to reach the hotsprings on the mountains. Pyre froze over from the cold, so Mother stayed with him while me and Pyresaf travelled to the hotsprings. We reached them, where I became a teen. Then, a pack of 3 bears returned, and they had caught some elephant-looking nicheling. Nightfire Posted January 15, 2021 Author Posted January 15, 2021 Hare's History (118-122 days in) The tribe huddled together for warmth. Quartz didn't like staying next to Thornbush, but the cold had become stronger and she would freeze otherwise. Plus, Pine had potential. If she could train Pine to become stronger, the young nicheling would become a force to be reckoned with. The tribe continued to move, while Thornbush and Hare found themselves sitting in hotsprings. Thornbush decided to ask her father a question she had been pondering for a long time. T "Father, what happened to Mother?" Hare thought for a moment. What should he tell his daughter? After thinking, he turned to Thornbush. H: "A brave, strong and positive nicheling who sacrificed her life for you and the tribe." T: "Wow. I heard from Wikku that she had always hated balance bears." H: "That's true. They kept stealing her friends. She decided that she wouldn't let them steal you and your tribemates." Thornbush felt her stomach. T: "I would protect my children like that." H: "Good. You'll be a great mother to your child, like Truffle was." T: "Was that her name?" H: "Yes." The rest of the tribe came over, and the pair quieted. Hare wanted to ask Snowchaser and Voidwalker something himself. But, a rogue was lurking. Thornbush prepared to protect Kira and Sakura, who were discussing what happened to the Snowfalls. The rogue came over, where Kira landed a strike across his face. Recoiling, the wanderer retreated. Sakura wiped blood off her fur in disgust, whereas Quartz smiled. The male would likely freeze in the abyss of the water. Hare wondered if Sycamore's bones were frozen in the icy water. Thornbush came out of the hotsprings and began preparing a nest. Her child was arriving soon. Meanwhile, Snowchaser caught a rabbit. His technique took Hare's attention, and he went over. H: "Where did you learn how to hunt like that?" Sn: "My old tribe. A bunch of hunters that valued strength over loyalty. Named the-" H: "Rockfall tribe? The Snowfall's worst enemies?" Sakura's ears perked as she slept at the mention. Sn: Surprised "Yeah. How'd you know about them?" H: "When I was a child, I was in the Rockfall tribe. But they banished me for having a twisted snout." Sn: "What was your name?" H: "I never earned my adulthood name. Was known as Harecatcher." Sn: "Didn't get mine either." Voidwalker came over. Bad screenshot, Snowchaser is out of frame V: "You were a Rockfall too?" H: "Yep. Sadly." V: "I was banished because I was missing a paw. Snowchaser secretly stayed with me, but they found out, and he was banished before he earned his adulthood name." H: "What happened to the tribe? I was sent to a whole new island, not allowed to stay here." V: "After the blizzard, the remaining members went in search of the last Snowfalls. But the Snowfalls had fled to another island." Kira and Sakura overheard as they slept. Sn: "Nichelings with twisted snouts are banished because they think they'll become deranged like the rogues. They don't want rogue babies. Nobody does." Quartz, who wasn't asleep yet, hissed under her breath. H: "Interesting. What happened to the royals?" Sn: "Fled. Probably still alive." V: "We're stockpiling food so we can go find them and take our revenge." H: "Give them a scratch for me when you do." Hare knew he shouldn't want vengeance, but he decided that this time was his one exception. 2 3
Nightfire Posted January 22, 2021 Author Posted January 22, 2021 Distrust (123-128 days in) Quartz brought Pine away from the rest of the tribe. Q: "Listen, Pine. You're weak, and you need to become strong. I can help you learn how to fight-" P: "I know, my Father told me that before he left to join some group called the Rockfalls." Quartz remembered Snowchaser, Voidwalker and Hare speaking about them. She ignored Pine. Q: "Last chance." P: "I-I suppose." Quartz trained Pine all night and all day. Pine was becoming as strong as a balance bear. Meanwhile, the tribe began travelling upwards, towards the mountain peaks. A little rabbit slept underneath Sakura. She would kill it if she was strong enough, but then again, it was quite an adorable rabbit. As Sakura and her rabbit rested, Thornbush built a nest and prepared for her child. Out popped Moose, a twisted-snout nicheling with well-rounded abilities. A child to be proud of, for sure. Wikku and Thornbush rested besides the adorable fur-lump and began expecting another child. The tribe continued to climb up the mountain. Thornbush had her Mother's urge to explore and energy, even while she was expecting a child. Meanwhile, Voidwalker and Snowchaser were speaking in hushed tones. Moose wouldn't be able to hear thanks to his age. V: "How are we gonna trust these nichelings? They obviously have secrets they're not telling us. Or, atleast some of them do." Sn: "We can set off on our own whenever we want to. But I want to learn more about what happened to Hare." V: "I don't know.. what if they throw us out again?" Sn: "They haven't thrown the white one out yet, and she screams rogue child." V: "That's true, but the tribe is still being formed. There's no order or hierarchy here, just equality." Sn: "We don't need to follow Rockfall tradition anymore, you beaky nuisance. Equality is just.. normal in this tribe, I suppose. Order is second." Voidwalker didn't comment, but he stared skeptically towards the rest of the tribe. 1 2
