Markus
Hi everyone! Here's the 5th GIF competition! We're having an OPEN topic this round again. We were very impressed by your creativity last time, so please surprise us again this round The best two GIFs win a Steam key for the Closed Alpha of Nimbatus. Deadline to enter is Wednesday, 11th of July. (Winners will be announced shortly after). Here are the rules: Post your GIF right here in this thread. Multiple entries per person are allowed. Old non-winning GIFs are allowed as well. Only GIFs recorded with the demo version are allowed in this competition. Please only post GIFs here if you participate in the contest. If not participating, please use this thread instead. @Roger, @Markus, @Micha and @Philo will pick 2 favorites. There will be only awarded one key per person. If you won in a previous contest, we won't award you another key. Please note: You can use [F9] to generate an animated GIF of the last 6 seconds gameplay, but feel free to use other tools.Remember that the best GIF wins! Tell an interesting story with your GIF. For this contest the best looking GIF wins. We'll have contests which award pure logic/cleverness at a later time. We maybe show some of these cool gifs on Twitter, Reddit, etc. Please only post here if that's ok with you. Tipp 1: The GIF capture tool hides bad framerates. If you turn off the Bloom because of performance reasons, turn them on before recording the GIF. The game might have a low frame rate, but the resulting GIF should run smoothly and might result in nicer looking GIF because of the effects. Tipp 2: If you press F9, please wait until the "Generate GIF" message disappears, otherwise your recorded GIFs might get corrupted. Press F9 and wait, and then it should result in a 6 seconds long GIF.
cade
i wish this was a logic contest because i would have had something to blow you away.

cade
Its a sumo drone that uses the avoidance technique. By using rotating distance sensors and impulse givers to time the rotation and sense where the distance sensors are when the detect an enemy it then activates the appropriate engines to avoid them. i think its a cool idea but its a terrible sumo wrestler https://drive.google.com/open?id=1YR_9btltkwLTpAysxlFzokWmzUYB0Mge
Philo
@cade Cool Do you want to post a GIF of it here? That would be required if you want to enter the contest
cade
sorry it took so long! its the fourth of July! i didn't put it up against a real opponent because it would have lost. its more of a proof of concept. one way i could see it being used is on a planet so you can launch the brain into space and only need a few sensors. but then again i heard you guys may be making a proximity sensor witch would probably simplify things a bit. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1YR_9btltkwLTpAysxlFzokWmzUYB0Mge This version is A LOT smarter. only took me a few hours... https://drive.google.com/open?id=1rd-NHYX2_i_nX9LlhSStq_G76jNdgp8N
Baron
Well since i already got 2 keys i won't be needing any any time soon. However that won't stop me from loving the heck outta this game. Here's a few gifs of some magnet-fed thruster dispencer in action inside the sumo arena. (looks cool, but really bad compared to most drones) Maybe i'll upload more later. we'll see :)

xevoryn
So I found a really intresting an cool looking "bug" in the demo version of the game. When you fire Rockets like the GIF's show and you repell them with Magnets they accellerate but the RETURN instead of going further… Attracting mode of the Magnets Keep them much closer so i think that isn't really intendet. So, for the looks 😁
xevoryn
So, some things I had in my gallery are a bunch of "mining"-drones. 1) The first is a Kind of turning-laser-thingy-Thing 2) The second one mines with the most common way: BOMBS! (at first I thought that would sound really cool, but then I realized, that it is really the most common way 😅) 3) The last one is more of a digging-attack-drill-with-exploding-payload-thing which can, correctly fired, hit a target an detroy it.

Grizzy Bear
Hello Nimbatus community! My name is Joe. Here I have all of my interesting GIFs experimenting with the mechanics of Nimbatus. Devs I hope you like at least one! I don't usually post in a forum, but I love this game. I have, I have many more ideas that I would like to make come to life. I have one worry though, I worry that this game might become over-complicated (I have no problem with that myself), and if it did it might end the games career before it starts. Just a concern, but I just thought I'd say it. It would be cool to have community modding though *cough *cough devs. So now I'll start explaining all of these ideas, the first GIF (starting from the bottom) was inspired by watching a video of a bullet in this game being effected by the magnets. My ideas aren't complicated, but I do think they are very interesting. I was trying to think outside the box with my ideas, because I would really love a steam key for the closed alpha. Also to spark some of this knowledge with others so the really good builders in this game can make some really cool designs. I have some concepts that I think would be really cool, but I am not that good with logic gates and wouldn't know how to make it work. I know how to make various missiles, vehicles, bombs, ect. I would really like to learn how to use the logic with much more complicated designs. So if someone could maybe make a video or a pinned thread that would be awesome. That was my only rant about that stuff, but now lets actually talk about my ideas. About half of them are generally the same thing, this was just me testing these mechanics and I thought I should share this if no one else knew this. One of my more interesting ideas was my "railgun", now that I am sitting here thinking about it and how I thought it would work I have a better I idea that I'll post later. While making this "railgun" I was thinking if we had struts like in KSP, then in might solve the glitches that happen with the connections. Another interesting idea that I made was the 4 magnets and attempting to make a vehicle that moves easily without thrusters. Then there was the one with the 4 magnets on the bottom (I need to make names for these contraptions), it moved with very little skill, but it was slow. Hopefully, I don't have to explain all the other experiments, if you do want to know more about any of these, or if you want to a nice person and help me learn the logic gates. Then in my next post I'll write my discord username. Thank you if you read the whole thing, and sorry if I did bad this was my first time doing this so there you go. Let me know what you think, and have a good day! Edited July 9, 2018 by Grizzy Bear I added more than I should of
Roger
@Grizzy Bear Can't tell how the individual gifs will do in the competition, but I found it very interesting to see your studies 😃
paradox23
Heard about the game yesterday and spent the whole day playing. here is a little automated hover mining thingy i made while playing around with the logic, the coder in me loves this stuff :P hope i am not too late for the competition :) ps. the game runs surprisingly smooth on linux for an alpha
cade
@paradox23 i hope you know you don't need to use your engines to thrust upward like you were doing; try removing the engines and add a directional sensor.
paradox23
@cade the outer two thrusters are connected to a directional sensor to keep it pointing straight down, and the inner two thrusters fire when it gets too close to the ground so that it hovers instead of hitting the ground. I think it could work without the middle two thrusters now that I think about it
fullmetalalchemist110
It's the death star! Counterplay: None It took me SO long to make it look nice and circular without falling apart, enjoy. I used lots of hinges. I am become death, destroyer of worlds.
nahbrown
I wanted to see if I could make a little clock, but there weren't enough keys so I did this little counter thing that goes from 0 to 9. I did this because I knew it would be a challenge to create a timing mechanism without any wait command. I don't know if it is being implemented already but some block that gets the input, waits a second or two, then gives the output could be helpful for more technical drones, or maybe like in @Baron's above, a small "missile" launcher that releases one after another. Another use for this could be to better time the magnets pulling and pushing bullets on the railgun idea of @Grizzy Bear. I just wanted to bring this idea to light.
