During one stormy night, Beach passed.

Grasshopper was curled against her side, their son between his paws. Her breathing was shallow, and she could barely open her eyes.

"I'm here..." Grasshopper whispered to his mate, trying to shelter her from the rain.

"Do you remember Treasure?"

Those words surprised him, and he opened his eyes, looking down at her.

"Yes, why?"

"You know how you found his body in that lake?"

Grasshopper slowly nodded, not knowing where this was going.

"I did it." Beach whispered.

"I killed him."

That was what she said, with her dying breath.

And those words rang in her mate's head for the rest of his life.

The next day, a bearyena attacks the nursery.

Lilypad is the only good fighter around, so she fights it, to protect her children and the other's.

The tribe was living off what few berries were on the small piece of land, and unfortunately, Treebark died of starvation.

Popperknot is on his last day of life.

For his last moments, he decides to rest under the tree, surrounded by the comforting scent of berries and acorns.

They remind him of his mother.

He closed his eyes, laying in the shade as the rest of the tribe relaxed in the sun of gathered food.

He heard pawsteps.

It took all his strength to open his eyes, but once he looked up, shock filled him.

With that, he choked out his last words, before age took him.

"Rust?"

Rust cracked open another nut, trying to ignore his father's grave just a few feet away.

"Why does your snout look weird?"

Rust sighed, trying to ignore Algae aswell.

"Why dont you have claws?"

He groaned, hitting his head against the tree trunk.

"Why-"

"Why do you not have an off switch?!"

He snapped, tossing the acorn he was holding on the ground.

Algae paused, looking at him with a concerned face.

She reached out a paw, sitting down next to him.

"Mom said that everyone thought you were dead?"

Rust chuckled humorlessly.

"I would have. But Torrent saved me."

"Torrent?"

He turned to her, smiling slightly.

"A very nice nicheling. You should ask Shell about her, she was his mother."

She slowly nodded.

"Why did you live, but she didnt?"

Rust paused, staring down at Popperknot's grave for the first time that day.

His mind went back.

"DAD! DAD!"

The little nicheling called desperately, clinging to a rock as the water rose around him. Rain pelted his face, and he was so cold that his body was going numb.

He couldnt hear anything, not even his own voice.

"Hold on!"

He looked up from the water, watching with wide eyes as a grey nicheling swam towards him.

Once she made it to him, she grasped him in her jaws, ignoring his cries of protest.

The water kept rising, and she tried her best to keep him completely above water.

Swimming over to a tree, she dug her claws into the trunk, before hauling herself up as much as she could.

Hanging on tight, she dropped Rust on one of the top branches, catching her breath momentarily as the little nicheling grasped onto the branch tightly.

Just as she prepared to leap up with him, the branch under her hindpaws snapped, and her claws couldn't hold the wet bark.

In a split second, she was in the water, trying to fight her way back up.

The water was stronger though.

She never came back up.

Rust was alone, his only company being the pounding rain and his neverending fear.

"Rust?"

He gasped, looking back down at the younger nicheling. She looked almost scared.

"Are you okay?"

Any suggestions for who should go to the next island? I thin its a savannah

Pine, Shell and Zephyr have already been chosen, because they have recessive lean body, big ears or both

The weight of her emotions finally took its toll on her body. She wasn't willing to fight fate anymore.
