  1. Same, then the yellow looks more like a soft blonde. Two red genes looks too much like a fire engine red for me. But I do think it's cute when red and white fur genes r mixed. Pink. ahaha
  2. I'm boring and favor more functional genes. Things like nimble finger and ram horn (it's hard to get mega horn when u r starting new files all the time). Usually all my nichelings have the same useful traits and I leave the cosmetic traits alone. I like having variety. Tho I usually try to get rid of yellow fur because it's just plain ugly. Two yellow genes r way too bright of a yellow, but at the same time it doesn't look good mixed with other colors like brown or black. It's just horrible all around. I like mask and spots. Stripes are sometimes hard to see in my opinion, i like how they looked in older versions better. And I usually try to breed out black eyes. I like when my niches have all sorts of different colors, purple, yellow, green, blue... But when there's a lot of black eye genes they just dominate everything.
  3. They still have panda You have to have Mask and Pattern D https://sites.google.com/view/nichepatterns/comparing-the-patterns-mask
  4. Right now I'm doing a no mutation menu challenge. Before I got bored whenever I got all the traits that I wanted spread throughout my tribe. This way, it takes longer for me to get the traits that I want and it's also more realistic.
  5. I never played with the old graphics. But seeing screenshots of it is very nice. The different colored eyes r beady looking, but like in a good way. And I especially like how the stripes look. Sometimes I can't even tell if my nicheling has stripes in this version, but in the old version it is very prominent.
  6. It would be tedious. But doing it this way is against the rules. It p much guarantees that none of these genes will be considered because the developers will see that they didn't follow the format they requested be followed.
  7. Aren't you supposed to make a separate thread for each proposed new gene?
  8. I made a file where the whole tribe had albinism, water body, swimming tail, claws, and cracker jaw. All my other tribes before had been on land, so it was fun breeding them. But then I quickly got bored because there's nothing that exciting in water environments compared to land. I had a file where i was just searching for wings the whole time. I stopped playing after i got my whole tribe with 2 wings and bird beak. I find that I kind of get bored after I have already bred for the traits that I want.
  9. I had been wanting to play a game with breeding mechanics for a long time. I just googled games with breeding mechanics. A lot of results were stuff I already played, and like.... it had breeding but that wasn't the main focus of gameplay. Things like pokemon, the chao gardens in sonic adventure 2, final fantasy 7 chocobo breeding, fire emblem awakening It was kind of surprising how few games i could find with breeding at its core. This game was like the only game i could find that came even close to what i wanted, and i am totally satisfied. Also, if the team who made Super Meat Boy ever do finish that cat breeding game called "Mew-genics" you kno i'm totally going to buy it.
  10. Water biomes just need more food in general imo Can't really support large tribes like living on land can.
  11. My family trees would be way too crowded if the old generations didn't get deleted
  12. See, this is why I wish the game was more specific about genes and what they do I never have velvet paw in my tribes because I don't understand how stealth works.
  13. I'm lame n don't really care much about how a gene looks. I just go for useful stuff megalocerous horns, runner leg, nimble finger, bird beak, good eyes
  14. It has already been suggested. Thread here
  15. Never really had a problem with them. I like playing zoomed in, so when they spawn they don't really obscure my vision. I just leave the mom on the nest anyway out of habit, even when the blue birds aren't around. I do understand how that would be annoying for other players tho. I think that making them less visible when zooming in would be a good idea. The game already gives you audio cues to let you know that the birds are around. Leaving the baby alone on a hard island after you hear the bird caw.... that just seems like carelessness to me.
  16. Niche wiki does explain it. Oxygen Not Included wiki explains things too. The point is that new players don't have to exit the game and search everything online because there's an in-game explanation. Just generally it's annoying if you have to look up online to learn how to play a game. It should be obvious from playing the game. As it is now, one of the more common complaints on steam reviews is that it's hard for new players to learn things. I thought this might ease the learning curve a bit. Not everybody is willing to exit the game to google stuff.
  17. When I first played Niche, there were some really confusing things. For instance, when you look at the genes in the mutation menu. Some descriptions just really are not helpful. For peacock tail, its purpose is to increase your chances of attracting outsiders. To attract outsiders, you have to stand on top of a stump or tree and then call out. But the mutation menu doesn't explain this. It just says "+2 attractiveness" For purr snout, it says "adds ability to purr" But it doesn't explain what benefit the purring ability gives. I had no idea it let you heal Nichelings. Recently I thought there was a bug because I was spending time on a cold island, but the counter wasn't going up for genes like antlers or big body. Turns out that the island has particularly cold days, and you have to wait for these times. I didn't know! That's why I thought it would be nice to have a guidebook! It could explain the benefits in detail of each gene. It could also provide detail about islands, what kind of weather to expect. Or even other animals like razarenas, meat eating plants, rabbils, bearyenas, etc. WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE I got the idea from playing Oxygen Not Included. There are a lot of things in this game that you have to pay attention to, so they have a database explaining things in detail. The database button is in the top right corner. When you click on it, you can choose what kind of information you want to look up. If it were implemented in Niche, I imagine it would say something like... >genes >islands >plants >animals Just click on what you want for more detailed information! That way it's way less confusing for new players!
  18. I met 3 wanderers and none of them had wings. then i got impatient for them to reappear and just left the island. so mad cuz i was trying to unlock all genes, and you need wings to fly and unlock bird beak. >=/
  19. I would think that heterochromia would be like albinism and melanism. There would be a gene to have it or not have it. You need to have both genes in order to make heterochromia appear. After you have both genes, instead of turning your niche white or black it changes the eye colors. The eye colors depend on what 2 eye color genes you already have.
  20. Oh I see. So it's not just time spent in the cold biome, there are some days that are particularly cold. i'm guessing these cold days are kind of like how on normal islands it rains every once and a while. Thanks for explaining it to me. I wish that was made more clear in the game.
  21. Hi. I'm not sure if this is a bug or if I am doing this wrong since this is my first time playing on a cold island. The "time spent in cold climate" counter is not going up. I wasn't sure if "time spent" referred to the nicheling turns/gemstones or just days spent. I have already spent several days on this island. (top of screenshot, days spent on island) But the genes in the mutation menu seem unaffected. It's still at 0/50 even though I've spent some time here. Is this a bug or am I just doing it wrong? Do I need to go to a different island? Thanks.
  22. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it involves a random number generator. You can only have a certain number of nichelings in your tribe. Anywhere between 2-20 maybe?
  23. The notification menu is nice, but could use some improvement in my opinion -tell the name of the nicheling that died -tell which gene you've unlocked -tell the name of which nicheling is sick -tell the name of which nicheling got infected (and by who) -tell the name of which nicheling got impregnated by a rogue male -tell the name of which nicheling got leeched -tell the name of which nicheling is bleeding I know that a lot of these you can just click "show" and go to the niche that is affected. But with the dead nicheling, it just shows a dead body and I have to figure out which one that is. Also, it's annoying when I click to see which nicheling is affected and it's just some omega that I don't care about anyway. Edit: Oh and please have a notification when my nicheling is getting eaten alive by a razorhana.
