  1. thanks! I'm thinking about creating a fish/shark one too!
  2. when in the niche rules thread people are arguing about wolves
  3. How is this coming? @PurrSnoutMaster
  4. I'm glad you like Niche! We all do too. I do hope it gets some more updates eventually, or something like dlc would work. Somebody even did suggest a niche two.
  5. Ah, I see. Good to know lol. I'm not too well versed on niche islands. Which do you think is harder?
  6. In this challenge your nichelings are frogs, (amphibians). Set-up: Island: Start on any island where there is water. I would suggest one with both shallow and deep water; plus, rivers and ponds as well as ocean. Lifespan: The baby life-stage is considered "eggs", and should be 3 days long. The children are considered tadpoles and this life-stage should be 7 days long. Teenagers are considered froglets and this life-stage should be 10 days long. Adult, (or frog), should be set to 62. Pregnancy duration is 1 turn. Multipliers: The predator damage multiplier should be set to times 20, all other multipliers should be set to times 3, (including healing) Genes: Each frog should have either gills or water body somewhere in their genes. Forbidden genes include: wings (both kinds), prehistoric genes, and bearyena genes. Fertility, immunity genes, hemophilia, eye type, and gender of your frogs should be randomized, (or you can pick these if you want to have an easier time). Diet: Frogs do not eat plant matter, so for this challenge your nichelings cannot eat berries, roots, or nuts. They prefer insects (including worms), but will also eat small fish (the regular fish-fish, not razorana), and rabbils. They will only occasionally hunt stag-moles and clown-koi if starving, and there is a chance the stag-mole or clown-koi will deal damage to them whether or not they're successful (50% chance, roll a die or random number generator, use niche commands to give them 2 damage [damage multipliers automatically apply, do not give them predator damage]). Also, frogs only eat live prey and will not collect heaps of meat lying on the ground. They don't scavenge. Response to predators: Frogs will run away. They will not even attempt to fight a predator in order to protect another frog. If they themselves are being chased and are cornered or cannot get away without being hurt by running/swimming, they will finally attack, but can only use one of their moves to do so if they have a strength of three or more. Eggs: After mating a female must lay eggs (give birth) in the water. It can be in shallow water if they want, but most water-breathing females will go deeper into the water to lay them. After laying the eggs (the baby is born) the female will abandon them there. If you want, for easier difficulty, you can have the father come care for them since in some species of frogs the male cares for the young. You may have some male frogs that do, and others that don't. If the baby nicheling/egg doesn't have gills or water body you may use the changegene command to give them gills. Write down/keep track of their normal genes, however, they will get these back later. Tadpoles: Tadpoles have only one move and are constantly vulnerable to the bird (which simulates the different water creatures that eat frog eggs and young in real life). However, you can add +1 food to your food supply for every two you have as they filter algae and eat tiny critters for themselves. Froglets: If any frogs were given gills to breathe underwater as eggs, they now gain their old genes back. This is because froglets actually develop lungs. Those who had gills or water body can keep those genes, though. Froglets must remain in the water, so those without gills and water body must be in shallow water to not drown. Froglets no longer generate their own food and must pull from the tribe food supply or catch their own, likely in the form of fish. If they are out of the water even for a second you must give them 1 predator damage or 8 non-predator damage, whichever you prefer. Each turn they stay on land gives them 10 damage (multiplied by multipliers=30 damage). Adult frogs: Adult frogs can be on land, but they must come back to the water every 8 days to revitalize their skin. They can be in shallow water just for one move and that will count. If they do not do so, for every day they don't use commands to give them 1 damage (which will be multiplied by 3 automatically and most accurately can be said to be caused by drowning). Other challenges: Since frogs don't live in groups, you could keep track of each nicheling's food seperately. Turn on blind genes Completely randomize your genes I hope this challenge is fun and accurate, also hopefully not too hard. Let me know if there's any improvements I should make! Or if you end up playing it.
  7. "It's a good thing mammoth's can't fly. Can you imagine if one pooped on you?"
  8. I named myself after a nicheling I once had a long time ago, (I made up the name I believe, named the nicheling that, and then a few years later I get back into niche and name myself after them since they were my favorite nicheling). I also had another niche forums account back when the last feature vote was taking place but I forget the name of it.
  9. I agree! This would've been really helpful for my expirement world
  10. Episode 35: In this video, Nokirvan finally stands up to Elko after the death of their brother due to her bad leadership choices. He doesn't lead a coup, rather he tries to persuade her to see the detriment of her actions. She decides not to punish him, but not to fully admit she was wrong either. She simply agrees that the siblings they were chasing managing to escape was not victory, and she should have broached some settlement. This being said, she tells them they must try and make it back to Nuvan's Island another way than they way they came since it would kill them going back across Dukduk's Death. They agree, and she agrees she will stay on Dukduk's Island and not return to Nuvan's Island, giving up her leadership role for what days remain in her life. On Rekoanna's-Bearyena Island, the question of whether breeding with a bearyena should result in punishment and/or the death of the bearyena is answered by the majority saying it should not be punished. Loelana has won her bet and she and the bearyena will hopefully not be harrassed any longer. But while this may be right, another very wrong thing has happened on the island. Kirroduk and his daughter Tareme have mated due to a brain fart on my part. I roll to see if it was intentional, and it was. So here is another family on this island falling apart. A great crossing onto Rekoanna's-Bearyena Island is also happening, hopefully bringing new life into an island with quickly degenerating morality.
  11. (I know that nobody was actually cold to the point of loosing action points lol, I meant story-wise they're all a bit colder than normal and the water is coldest since I'm imagining it more like the atlantic ocean when they're used to an ocean like the pacific. Thanks for telling me that about the island though! I thought it was Summer Mountains but glad to know it's an easier island (I think?))
  12. I totally get that and do the same thing myself
  13. "Moons? Can you tell me what it means?" questioned Constellationkit with enthusiasm.
  14. Dove's gaze softened, "I'm sorry Willow, I didn't mean to say it like that." She turned to Dog, "and yes, we should look around for her."
  15. It's alright! These are like writing chapters in a full-on book and probably take alot of time and effort. Sometimes you have to deal with things in real life. Just try and set a schedule you think you can handle
  16. Anarako (that's what her name is!), finally finds a male. She had been looking for a mate for ages. Excitedly, she invites him into the tribe and breeds with him. A new and terrifying danger emerges. A bluebird now circles the sky, and I have quite a few babies sitting in the water with no adult supervision. Quickly I bring Mere back into the water to guard the babies, and Lenrare guards little Kore. Operi has taken quite a bit of damage from the water, but I had hoped she could eat a healing plant and recover. However, Lurvandon had eaten it before joining us, and it doesn't regrow in time. She spends her last says digging up worms from the sediment in the shallow waters. Her sacrifice to the experiment will not be forgotten. Operi died having had more children than Fish, but Fish will live longer and eventually catch up. Analako makes a nest in the water, (not going in so deep she will start to drown). Rekoel is watched by her older sister. Analako has twins, but unfortunately they are both sick. I forgot to check her and Lurvandon's immunity genes in my excitement. It appears they should probably not breed again, but they might anyways. (Do frogs know the cause of sickness? I don't think they do....) Also neither of them have gills so I will be using the changegene command to give it to them. I guess Anarako does not want to risk having another child with Lurvandon after all, as she breaks the nest. Or maybe she breaks it because now it is infected with whatever sickness the twins have. AH FIsh's First NAme is Anarami! nice. Continuing, Fish breeds again with Whale (who also has a first name btw but I forget it and I didn't have him selected in any screenshots apparently...wait...family tree... It appears to be something like Takirnu). Anarami de Fish sits at the bottom of the sea once more, ready to have her third child. And then I stopped playing for the day. So yeah, this is a savefile I may or may not continue. I don't have the settings perfect for the frog challenge I have in mind, but I do like the story so we shall have to see. This niche world was instrumental in designing my frog challenge which I will eventually post on these forums, and I will keep this save whether or not I end up using it for playing the frog challenge myself. (Also btw since I decided to make this not just an experiment world about half-way through, I took away alot of my extra food, so that's why some of it mysteriously disapears.)
  17. Kore is blind, and also has no gills. But she still has use to the tribe as the perfect baby to test this on! She is now le fish baby! She, as a tadpole, will retain her gills until she's an adult (or maybe a teen). Though the drowning status effect is still there, next turn I see it doesn't effect her. Lenrare crawls up onto the beach, freed from drowning at last. I skipped to the next turn. In this screenshot I meant to capture who all was taking drowning damage, but I didn't really succeed. It's kinda pretty, though. As you can see, our experimental tadpole Kore has not taken any water damage. She's making her way toward the shore for some reason. Meme, who has taken it upon herself to babysit all the tadpoles deep in the water, has a leech. A razorana lies in wait nearby, knowing it's time to feast may soon come. Mere starts bleeding from the leach but hastily swims away. Lenrare pulls it off and licks her wounds. The razorana followed as fast as it could, but now it swims away, no more able to attack. The babies head towards their care-giver, their mother-figure, towards the shore. They're confused at being utterly alone.
  18. Strange, but some things don't change Realising that she would be pregnant for some time before being able to have her first child, a nervous Kappa turned toward a familiar comfort: the water. Kappa heads to the water nearby her nest. She doesn't like the water's temperature, but figures she'll get used to it eventually. At least contributing to the tribe's food supply gives her something to do. Swan digs up more worms from the sediment, gladly swimming around in the icey water. Why the cold doesn't seem to bother her I honestly don't know, since water-body isn't particulairly helpful in the cold, but don't question it it's story. On land she would probably get cold easily, especially if snowing, however. Anyways, Rufus finally gets in the ice-cold water himself, dispite not liking water or the cold. It is quite the romantic scene as the two munch on worms and talk about their future. Then they mate. Continuing on, Eli, Raella, Garnet, and Roaraara have created a sort of exploring group. They're exploring the edge of the grass where it meets the stone, hoping to find something useful. They find some clover which Raella tries to munch on, only to find it is completely gross and not at all nutritious, much like grass. Thus it appears useless. Eli wants to explore further into the stone because it fascinates her, but Moaraara and her mate Garnet convince her to come help them explore the grasses since it seems apparent they will be of more use. Plus they should all stick together in case of a bearyena attack (pretty sure there are none of those here, but the group doesn't know that). Then they smell something...dangerous? Garnet remembers hearing a story about these things once before his parents died. He remembers they're dangerous if you crack them open. But Moaraara smells a scent like the familiar food of insects inside, and though he knows those are dangerous too, he knows how to make a meal out of them without too much trouble. He makes a mental note to call Rufus up there as soon as possible. Kuku convinces Quinn Jr. to come out into the stone to search for roots. He himself smells a rabbil, and then it is off to the races! Away he goes, hunting that rabbil. Chie goes to help him, remembering her family's prowess as hunters. Perhaps his grey coat and demeaner also remind her of Yukiko. But chasing down the rabbil they find something else, it is perculiair and new, and the heat coming from it seems attractive given the temperature is much lower than they're used to. But they're on a mission to hunt down the rabbil, they'll be back to check this out more later. Moaraara and Garnet prepare to crack open the strange insect-burrow. And that is the end of my turn! I don't remember whether I used Eli's last move or not, may have had her go get Rufus to eat the termites. So keep that in mind if she is moved further to the south than she is in the last screenshots. I hope all of this will help @Mothpool (or whoever goes next) on their turn in some way, shape or form.
  19. Arrival at the new island We have arrived at our new home. Everyone made it, (these ports were easy to make sure everyone was on them with their grey coloring). At first, only the cold temperature seems unfamiliar as the nichelings gaze at the shore. Just a beach and green grass. Eli takes the first step onto the island. She finds a berry bush, essential, but not that exciting. She has a drive to explore more. Kuku is second off. He notes the berry bush as important. Unsure what will come next, him and Kappa breed and prepare for a child. Kappa is overly-eager and builds a nest right away. Eli continues to explore, but smells nothing other than the berry bush, and doesn't hear anything exciting either. Swan dives into the icy water, digging up worms from the bottom. She digs up two patches of them, quite proud of herself. Moaraara sets off to explore this place. He knows it is essential for the tribe to know what food sources and danger lie inland. What he sees, however, is shocking. Plain stone with no grass on it lies just beyond the tribe's current domain. He notes this with unease. Could berries even grow in stone? How do you hide from predators and gather nesting material with no grass? As Moaraara continues to explore, Rufus turns to the responsible and dilligent task of berry-picking. Raella follows her adoptive dad into the bleak stone area. Chie is unnerved by the stone, but also curious as to what lies beyond it. So she ventures out.
  20. huh this is odd. Glad you found an old character, @Sky. Wish I could find Chiyanna but don't think I ever posted her on the forums...or did I?
  21. Fox would be better suited, or dog. Cats are interested in chickens, but then they just get pecked a whole ton on the head and decide to never go after them again, usually anyways! We found a cat in a chicken coop once, they were fine but terrified of chickens the rest of their life, didn't dare try to eat them (though they do try and get chicks sometime, it would be easier to do that when they're out to roam). Still, an interesting new expression and good story as always!
  22. Also btw, Fish female is highly jealous of Operi and angry at Whale for breeding with her too. Story-wise Whale and the land-dweller (Anarame?) lived on the same island and were friends. Then Whale found Fish at the bottom of the ocean and they fell in love. They had the expectation of being mates in their new land, but then they met Operi. Whale doesn't think of Anarame that way, but with no other males and Operi wanting kids of her own he decided to mate with both females. Fish thus feels betrayed, and her and Operi had a power competition of who could have the most children in the shortest amount of time. More screenshots coming soon.
