  1. Yeah, I think the best way to add this would be another gene slot for fur, independent from the body one so the fur we had currently would be the normal fur and then we could have thick fur (best paired with big body), long fur etc.

  2. About the lag for longer games, someone suggested that they'd be stored in boxes instead of scrolling so a box for generation 1 and or 2 and then another box for generation 3. That way only one or two boxed will be open (or scroll through) and the other ones wouldn't be loaded. In addition to that we could have the option to export the file to see it whole?

  3. I thought it might be cool to add a horn type unlocked after so many days in the savanna, the opposite of that for the mountain/snowy biome. When I think of horned animals in the Savanna I think of the Kudu, a deer looking creature with tall, twisted horns. I drew some in my art class today and edited them onto a nicheling model. They would have the usual +1 strength of horns and for unlocking would require the same amount of attack and days in the biome as the antlers would

  4. We need to be able to enter in values for magnets and stuff, instead of just a slider. Or, even better, we could have both number inputs and a slider.

  5. How about some way to change the part from the standard gray to something different. Maybe Really Dark Grey instead. It could be a tab up top, next to the Center of Mass toggle. :?

  6. We absolutely agree. This is a problem a lot of "pixel-perfect landscape destroy games" have. Remember playing Worms and then the Bazooka hits that damn small piece in the air? It's kind of like that. We're not sure if and how we will solve it in the end but we are aware of the problem and there are several ways to deal with it. Please bear with us until we have a solid and efficient solution.

  8. I would like a family tree that lists all the generations as well. Including the nichelings that never had children. It would help them from fading away forgotten. Though I do see this as an issue for longer games. Perhaps we could have it be longer, but to prevent lag after a point we could have the full tree as some sort of file we could export. I'm not a game dev, so the difficulty might be more than it's worth.

  9. Cool suggestion! The problem I see with this (which is a problem we have in general), is that the body also changes other body parts, such as the legs. Maybe the best solution here would be to add "Skin/Hair Types". So "Scales" would then the a type of skin. Other types could be long fur, no hair etc.

(I think they're on their 3rd Island since I got Eve) Second Image: My favorite tribe with their magnificent eyebrows and Albinism. :3 Third Image: An old image of one of my first tribes (that no longer exists) where I had 3 sets of twins- 1 identical set and 2 not.( 1 set look almost identical but I just noticed their eye colors are different)

  12. So, I came up with the idea of a new plant called Snake Ivy. Basically, it can be found in Jungles and looks like a dark pink snake attached to the ground. When any creature gets next to it or on top of it, and stays that way throughout the night, they take one notch of damage, for three days they're left near the Snake Ivy. Now, after three days, even if no creature has taken damage from it(the three days start when the island is loaded, and resets back to three days if a creature takes damage from it), it curls up for a day. While it's curled up, you can collect it. When collect it can be carried by a nichling. If a nichling is carrying the Snake Ivy, rouge males, rabbils, wanderers, bearyenas, and seeing apes will stay away. After being collected however, a Snake Ivy will wither completely after three more days. Well that's basically my idea. Enjoy!

  13. A body covered in scales that is unlocked in the mutation menu once you reach the swamp island, same as poison fangs, except instead of giving poison they cause an inability to be knocked out by the bugs since they wouldn't be able to bite through it's scales and add an extra +1 defense because again, scales, (though they wouldn't be as strong as the armored body so only 1 defense) and with the speed of medium body. this would be useful in the swamp area since its so overcrowded with bugs and stinky tale is unlocked in an entirely separate location, making it very hard to keep your nichelings from getting attacked by the bugs. Since it is a swamp and the poison fangs look so snake-like this feature would work really well there, I think this body type would have the colors of the poison body since it's not fur, it's scales. I used a screenshot of a nicheling as a model to kinda show what I mean:

  14. So in the next update we're getting a super neat call in which a nicheling can sit on a tree stump and makes a call to attract other wild nechlings, and your chance of success is raised with lower populations. I was thinking an additional use could be that when your creature makes this call they get a temporary buff that "highlights" nichelings of the opposite sex with compatible immunity genes. The buff would last a few days and, when selected, the nicheling that made the call can see nichelings with completely different immunity genes highlighted on their smell-vision. When that nicheling isn't actively selected, no highlight! Perhaps it could work with friendly bearyenas as well, where you have no way of knowing whether or not they'll pass on similar immunity genes until after you've already mated. I figured this addition could be useful to people with larger populations (and friendly bearyenas), where clicking through tons of nichelings to find a pair that's compatible can be a little tedious and make it just a little more fun to run our tribes. It would also more-easily bring to attention when, whoops, you only have one immunity-compatible couple left, better think of something quick!

  15. There should be another thruster, kind of like a dynamic thruster, but you pick the force in the editor, and it doesnt change when driving.

  16. We should have a sensor that detects distance from the center of gravity. It would be good for satellites and could even be used for orbiting drones in sumo.Maybe you could even set a block for it to detect distance to?That would be good for having mini drones orbiting a main drone.

  19. We could have water planets, where drones move slower and are affected by the water. Also, we could have boss planets, where theres a giant boss (possibly the planet itself) that you need to defeat.

  21. @Philo understandable, as someone who has no idea how to develop games I'm sure there are some ideas that are cool in concept but very difficult in practice, but maybe someday. Again I have no idea what I'm talking about but to make these 'skin' textures wouldn't they be layered over the base of the body types/face types. which truly sounds like a whole lot of work I have no idea how many artists you guys have but I feel like a whole skin range would take a large team. But by taking the base models of lets say big body and adding going through creating the skin types over it, like scales/no fur/long fur, then going through each body type, leg type, and face type. Writing all this out I feel bad for suggesting now because WOW that sounds like an intense amount of work. Let me know if this makes no sense and this isn't how it works at all but that's just how I've always imagined the fur patterns were implemented.

  22. @Markus, I really like the idea of certain paints being the reward for the sumo. I do think, however that that could be changed upon, maybe you can have all paints from the start, but you earn certain decals from winning the sumo, like a flame decal,or a skull and bones decal. Could be interesting.

  23. I've noticed that in sandbox mode in the snowy biomes that the arctic ram foxes will sometimes if not always have infinite lives. The lifespan bar will fill up but they will never "die" unless you physically attack them. If you click on them and the lifespan bar is full and you pass the day they will just live forever. I haven't actually tested this in story mode yet, but my guess is that its bugged too. Its not to big of a bug, but it might be something to look into.

  24. Would you be content with it if this would be a reward you get from missions or winning in the sumo tournament (or other future challenges)? You would for example get certain colors which then you can apply, not free choice. Or would you think this is something completely optional and has nothing to do with gameplay and you can choose everything from the start?

  25. @NairbHaon Great solution! Can you make a GIF of how your mechanical arm works? Our idea was also that you can use the magnet, but we were hoping that someone would build a mechanical solution. Great work We have to explain certain things better for the early access version and also add more parts and solutions to missions. Thank you for testing and improving the game together with us

  27. This could be very useful if something like logic lines where implemented! you could then have an actual distance value for altitude and have various logic gates to perform various functions at different altitudes! for example, you could make a drone that first digs straight down, then, once it gets to a certain distance from the core, starts digging out around the core and collecting resources, and once it is full, it could dig back up and then return to the resource drop-off point!
    1 point
  28. This would be very useful! and, if something like logic lines get added in maybe they could have the option to output an array containing distance and angle (relative to the center of the planet at the current position) to the target! You could then feed the angle into a turret's angle input and have a simple logic gate that has the turret fire when it gets within a certain distance!
    1 point
  29. On another note having logic lines would also allow things such as analog inputs, vectors, arrays, etc. that would allow for more complex logic systems that would be impossible with simply using keybinds alone.

  30. It would be very nice!

  31. I absolutely love the idea of logic lines/a logic view! I think keybinds could still be there for simple creations or such, but being able to have logic wires makes following the logic going on in a craft probably quite a bit easier! there could be like a blue circle for inputs and a red one for outputs! Also, maybe later on there could even be a large programmable part (or something you can put a good amount of logic gates in) for more complex calculations, but that could always be a mod once the game is done!

  32. I saw something like this with scales suggesting adding a “skin type” gene
    1 point
  33. @Philo Skins would make a lot more sense than to change a body type for a texture, a question I have for that though is would armored body change to a skin type or remain a body type? Also should I edit this post to say skin types- scaly skin or make a new post?

  34. Thanks @Markus ! It is interesting indeed, I guess some hobbies tend to appeal to the same kind tastes overall if it makes sense ? I only read the first manga of HxH, but that's what pushed me to watch the anime ! I'm quite sad it won't have a follow up due to the author health issues but it's still very good, even with around 150 episodes. Series which are too long are boring me fast usually but I would watch this one a 4th time without a doubt haha

  37. Hello there ! My name's Adrien, I'm a student in IT in France, and also a Closed Alpha player of Nimbatus. I'd like to be working in the video games industry later and I got a personal project going on to teach myself how to create games using Unity. I discovered Nimbatus a while ago (I would say early november of 2017 ?) and I immediately like the idea, tried the demo, posted a bit on the Discord/Forum at the time and sadly I had to be less active for a while (family time, classes, etc.), but now I'm back and I'll try to be as helpful as I can. It's my first time taking part in an Alpha Launch so I have to say I'm pretty excited ! I saw you guys like anime/manga and it's my case aswell ! Full Metal Alchemist is probably the one I like the most (only read the manga, I have to start the anime), I watched 3 times Hunter X Hunter (the 2011 version), I read Death Note multiples times too (never watched it though, I heard bad things about the adaptations haha) and I'm currently watching the season 2 of Seven Deadly Sins (Nanatsu no Taizai in Japanese). I'd like to learn it (maybe you could help me :p), Japan's one of my favorite country and I plan to go there this summer for about 10 days ! I would say cinema is quite a hobby too, I watch a lot of fantasy heroic kind of movies, super heroes, science fiction and all that stuff. I would say the animation movies from Studios Ghibli are my favorites by far, and LOTR Saga, as well as Harry Potter and Star Wars Prequels hold a good position if I had to make a list. That's pretty much what I would say about me, but if you want to know more don't hesitate to ask me, I'm always glad to talk !

  38. I have one big tribe, and sometimes I'll split them up, like I send two or three Nichelings (They're compatable for breeding, as that is crucial to the way I play) to explore new land. And once they clear some grass and find a good place for a nest, i breed them, and once they have their child, i give them all different gem colors from the rest of the tribe. And when i play like this, i call the smaller groups 'Factions' and sometimes these factions get so big, they're like a tribe onto themselves. Sometimes I'll mix factions if two Nichelings have recessive genes i want in my tribe [Ex: I had a water faction female and a meadow faction male (Blue and green gems, respectively) and they both had poison fangs recessive, the male had them active AND recessive, so i had them use a permanent nest near a toxic berry bush to have children. And when they were born i gave them either two blue gems and a green one in the middle or two green gems and a blue one in the middle, to show the merging of factions]

  39. 1st picture: This is Iskoko, my Goddess of the Grasses. In all of my tribes she is responsible for the grass that gives them all coverage. When she was young a bearyena killed some of her family, and she escaped because she fled into the tall grass to hide herself. She has been thankful for the grass ever since.(She is also the drawing on my profile Picture) 2nd picture: Kirroku, My god of Hope. When his faction (So i have one big tribe, but then i split that tribe into factions, He was of the Savannah faction, Hence the yellow gems) was still small they took in a wandering female, that female was his mother, and when he was born, his Faction was given the Hope that they will survive. 3rd picture: Rela, My Goddess of Balance. She was the last child born to her parents (Can't remember their names, Sorry) She is the Goddess of balance because since her parents just died, they had no Alpha. And when she gained her second gem, she approched her faction with a firm voice to tell them to stop fighting amongst themselves, or else their beloved faction would cease to exist. She restored balance to her faction and was elected as Alpha in her parents place.

  40. I always have my nichelings constantly gathering food, unless they're heading towards a new island. It results in there usually being over 1000 food. In some of my tribes I am extremely strict and have them be territorial, killing all wanderers who enter their territory. But some will just accept the wanderers even if they won't be breeding. For each generation, I choose some of my favourite creatures to be breeders. Often it'll be a bunch of females just with one male. I'll breed them until I get what I want from them, and compatible pairs in the next generation. The ones who I do not decide to breed immediately will go out and do exploring and collecting, same with retired breeders. Problem is some I get attached to and want to breed. I enjoy adding story to the creatures, so I had one who was hunting bunnies to impress a female, unfortunately I then realized they shared an immunity gene. But then his older brother who had been risking his life fighting the ape (I wasunlucky enough to get an ape tree on a grass mingle island), he had arrived and had a few babies with the female so the younger brother kept angrily hunting bunnies. So I do include a lot of story into the tribe, but i'll still make sure they can survive.

  42. Batteries should be explosive, and fuel should be flammable (burning damaging enemies and the drone). This serves a dual purpose, Makes the game more dynamic and increases creativity in building. You need to decide if you want to build in a more volatile way, or a more safe way. Just adds more variability between drones.

  44. I like the long or short hair option and think feathers will be added with flying niches unless they are bats. Also maybe scales could be added but only works with certain genes so the devs don't have to rewrite a bunch of code but not sure. What about mange for a sick niche or wild animal that is sick?

  45. This is a really great idea! Particularly the different types of coverings such as fur, feathers, and scales. I feel like they would work well as just different body types though since they a “Toxic body + Feathers” creature doesn’t make a mess out of traits and such. That doesn’t mean there can’t be something like a “Big feathered body” or a “Lean feathered body” that can be more modified to the traits that it has without being a big mess. As for fur lengths, I feel like that’s already pretty well covered by the different bodies from the big body to the lean body.

  46. Hi everyone. Today I was working on a new Shader which lets the drone parts burn. This look is very much work in progress and will most likely look totally different when it's in the final game - but hopefully you find the progress of such things interesting I hope you like it and as always, feel free to comment on everything posted here
