  1. Personally, I would really like new animals to fill the gaps in the ecosystems like large herbivores, feline carnivores, more water dwellers and some smaller creatures that can change the layout of the island a bit. But what I would like the most, as sort of a FINAL BIG update, would be a huge island that would take a very long time to explore. It would have every different biome, with savannah, grassland and jungle on the lowlands, and snow on the peaks. Then, a decent amount of ocean tiles. Maybe, every few days, a small whale, like a tiny whale island, could come and stay for a few days in the ocean, allowing you to get on its back for extra resources. Every single creature could spawn on this island, and there could be a few new ones in a new volcano or cave biome at the center of the island. Finally, there could be a true challenge mode implemented. It would not change the game a lot, but it would alter the behavior and abilities of all creatures, and make the game more of a challenge. There have been many cool ideas for a hard mode, like falling islands, invasive species that would try to take over the island, or making it so other animals can change their abilities over time and adapt to your nichelings. An update like this would be great for old players who need something to really freshen the game

  2. YES Or a seasons island would be cool too! And the apes hibernate when the balance bears come out!

  3. New genes, entities, islands... i have this image in my mind of a custom island-it’s an archipelago-Whale Island-summer mountains type combination

  4. I agree with the two above. Either custom islands and or seasons. New genes are cool for a short lifespan but I am looking to play Niche for a long time and custom islands would be so great!

  5. I love this suggestion, I had to draw some ideas I had! Personally I'd like them all in-game, except for the middle one lol

  6. An example I just drew! It's of Queen Relen from the Niche Competition Kingdom. I couldn't find a tan for the rest of her fur, so it just stayed blank.

  7. sooo... yeah. Mah art a Nicheling (unfortunately sideways) a cat (also sideways)(I draw slightly differently now tho) a animal hybrid that someone suggested here on the forums (Zebra + Wildebeest [they said Wildebeeste so that's how I spelled it]) so yeah. Please put pictures of your nichelings so I can draw them because I'm bored ! By the way, Sky isn't my real name but for online purposes I sign it Sky anyways 'cause that's my online name :3

  8. Hey there, I'm currently playing to get all Achievements and there were a few things I noticed if you are having trouble. Important: I'm playing version 1.1.4 EmmaUniverse If you are having problems unlocking this, try swapping the claw and nible fingers slots. I couldnt get the achievement with Claw in the upper slot and nible fingers on the lower. So I switched them and it works. In general Achievements Make sure to have the required genes in both slots. I had the issue with the Racoon Achievement. The Nicheling had to have thick pattern density in BOTH slots, even though its not seen on the Nichelings appearence. Its maybe not necessary to do it this way, but maybe it helps someone to unlock these achievement. my Problem I cant unlock the Globetrotter Achievement. I went to ever island (had a checkboard) then travelled to all islands which could me mistaken ( grass adv&peaceful meadow) via whale island Then I went to sandbox i visited all islands. Still no Achievement. Is this bugged? Or do the whale island travels dont count? It's the only achiement I'm missing, can someone help me out? And my 1300days Tribe starts to bore me (1.14 version) EDIT: I was always connected to the internet and restarted the game multiple times Thanks for the help and sorry for messed up english. I'm trying my best. Everybody have a really nice day 💙

  13. That's hard. Crafting islands by hand would be awesome, but is unlikely to be implemented at this point. So new trees, new entity types. Like a seasons island, cliffs, caves, one of these suggestions. But it's pretty much finished, making big updates seem unlikely outside of add-ons.

  14. This is a challenge all about social structure. In this challenge, there are two social layers. You should use a very large island to allow this challenge to really take form: On the top are nobles. Nobles are the stronger, higher ranking faction. They are generally very beautiful (to you, at least), and will not bother with things like collecting grass. Nobles, however, do love a good hunt and chasing down rogues. They mostly live off the work from the villagers. They should each have their own space on a seperate part of the island than the villagers. They have the alpha rank. Their gems should be colored a noble gold. At the bottom are villagers. Villagers are normal, everyday nichelings with a whatever appearance. They may hunt, collect grass, pick berries, and all other nicheling related things. Each nicheling family has to have two parents and no more than 4 children. A couple cannot have more children until one of them dies or is married off. Each family should have their own small ‘house’ in the island at with at least one line of darkness between then and any neighboring family. They have the beta rank. Their gems can be colored between families so you can tell who comes from where. Generally, a house consists of some kind of food source (berry bush, river, tree) and a nest or at least enough space to make one. Marriage Daughters are very prized, especially a particularly pretty or talented daughter (Defined as having 3+ in any single skill, or a special skill such as weather prediction, this is up to you). When a daughter is born, all genetically compatible males will fight for the right to the daughter. If you have a lot of genetically compatible males, you can choose to limit the amount or only give each male 1 number so the numbers don’t get unmanageable. Use a die or a random number generator and give two numbers to each male, for example. Male 1 gets 2 and 6 Male 2 gets 1 and 3 Male 3 gets 4 and 5. The male whose number gets called wins the daughter, this is absolute, even if you didn’t want that female and that male to mate. HOWEVER, if the daughter is particularly desirable (in your eyes or by raw stats, whichever you prefer) and a noble family has a genetically compatible son, you must flip a coin to decide if the nobles take the daughter instead, regardless of whether you wanted her to mate with the nobles or not. Of course, this can always result in a lot of forbidden romances, subterfuge, sabotage, and family rivalries. This challenge is great fun if you’re into roleplay. Once a daughter reaches adulthood, she should get her own space with her husband and start having children as soon as possible. Their gems should gain a unique color, which all their children will inherit. Orphans and the matron: Orphans are the children of mothers and rogues, children a family has over their 4 child limit, or children whose parents have died. Somewhere on your island, there should be an orphan matron. Orphan matrons are usually older nichelings, sickly or crippled nichelings, or infertile nichelings. The orphanage should be separate from the normal area where your nichelings live, though not too far. Orphans have the omega rank. Orphan daughters can be married off when they reach adulthood. Usually only families that cannot seem to win a challenge will accept an orphan daughter as a wife. Nobles will never take an orphan wife. If there is no family who wants the orphan wife, she can either become a matron or a slave. Orphan sons may be married off if there are no other genetically compatible males for a given female. Otherwise, they begin work as matrons or become slaves for the nobles. This part of the challenge is mostly optional, but it does become useful if the orphan children have immunities that have become rare in the common population. Matron and orphan gems are orange unless they marry, after which they take their mate’s gem color. Matrons cannot marry or have mates. There can only be 3 matrons at a time! There are a few absolute rules in the clan: Villager females, especially married females, who mate with rogue males become ostracized. They can either be banished or given the omega rank and forced to do slave work like clear grass for the nobles, harvest stinky fruit, or become babysitters or orphan matrons. Their illegitimate children become orphans or can be banished and immediately killed if you choose not to do the orphanage. Villager families cannot become noble, though a family who produces desirable, healthy children is usually considered more highly among the clan members. Noble females who bring shame to the family name (for example, breeding with a rogue or a slave) are demoted to a villager. She cannot return to the noble rank ever again, and any children born from a demoted noble female cannot marry into noble families. If a male cannot produce children after 5 failed mating attempts (6 attempts in total), the daughter can choose return to their birth family and be married off to another male nicheling. A female can choose to give a male more chances, but generally will give up after ten tries or so. That male cannot compete for that daughter in her next challenge. An infertile daughter or son is usually banished, demoted to a slave, or made into an orphan matron as they are considered burdens on their family. Wanderers are always a villager, and cannot marry into noble families. However, their children can given they are talented and/or desirable enough. Nobles decide things like moving islands and serve as arbitrators in disputes. How to start: My settings are: Baby = 2 days Child = 5 days Teen = 12 days Adult = 61 days Pregnancy duration = 3 days Enemy damage = 10 Environment damage = 5 Hunger damage = 5 Healing = 5 Start with nine nichelings. Two noble families, and two villager families, and one orphan matron. Make sure to have their gems colored. You can design them or have the game generate them. You should use a large island. Grass Mingle, Grass adventure, Archipelago, and Peaceful Meadow are all good starting points. If you like a little variety, you can turn off some predators and go to some crazy islands like the deep jungle or home island. Do what makes you happy :3 Good luck!

  15. I want to hear what you would like to see in the next update Of Niche. Remember: if you have something specific that you would like to see in the next update, put it in the features suggestion forum! I think that I personally would like to see an update more focused on new genes 🧬. Of course I love the new sandbox update, and all the new gameplay changes that have happened, but my favorite part of looking through the suggestions forum is the new genes people come up with. Although I do think that any future sandbox options would be great too.

  16. Note: This is not a fanfic, but the start of stories zooming through my head I wanted to know if there's anything that pulls one out of the story and/or if its too difficult of a read (most stories with animals as the main characters are often aimed at a younger audience somewhere falling into Middle Grade and Young Adult... not sure why, but that seems to be the case other than maybe Ratha's Creature.) I do have an Alliegence if anyone wants to look at that... but thought I'd go with the Prologue. While I use Grammarly there is only so much that can help with. Written in the Stars: Dawn of Hope. It used to be called Heartland Guardians until I found a book series called Journey to the Heartland. Prologue Into the night a yelp of agony came on the heels of a loud resounding boom; like lightning felling a tree. Without a storm cloud to be seen the woodland inhabitants felt more than a small inkling that something far greater a danger approached. They scented fresh blood on the breeze and their hearts seemed to freeze. All grew still and silent for not a mouse stirred nor a bird take wing. Not when they were among the woods. The furless creatures that walked on two legs and carried long sticks with odd shape. Sticks which made a horrid noise and heralded naught but death. Thunderstick. Hidden deep in the forest twin amber eyes peered out from an old fox den. Filled with pain. The pain of a life giver. Close by no more than a jump and a leap away from the makeshift den stood a wolf larger than most. A male with grey-green eyes and sleek fur made up of black, white and russet. He could sense his Onavlk. She, he could not lose, his co-leader, for even in that very moment she whelped to life one of their litter. "Man stalks the forest this eve, but will not destroy us, for we are strong. We are pack. Come brother and let us trick man and lead them far from the den of Sakari the Onavlk." From the shadows, another figure emerged. Pelt black as night and eyes gray as storms. "Yes, brother. Let us be rid of the unnatural who target the strong instead of culling the weak, the frail, the injured, the old." Grey-green eyes looked into storm-gray. The larger of the two wolves turned with a flick of his tail and ran due east, the other male due west. Once they were several yards away from the den, both of them howled. Fearing not for their lives if it would protect the lives of the Onavlk giving birth and the new lives she brought into the world itself. The legacy of the pack; of the Onavlk and her mate the Onvlk. He felt the dampness of the melting snow beneath his paws as he ran. Ran for his mate, for their pups; the future. A growl deep in his belly rumbled and rose, exhaled on his next breath as he leaped over a fallen log. There; the scent of fox strong and fresh. He dare not stop, not with the sound of man following after. He prayed as he ran. "May the spirits of the ancestors guide us, keep us safe and bring us home." Behind him, one of Man grew close and lifted his great booming stick. Above the running wolf, a feathered black bird called out a warning. And though the canine and the avian did not speak the same language they knew a bit of each other's, for their kind had co-existed with each other for generations. "Rok! Rok!" The bird squawked and the wolf turned round to slip behind a tree. Behind him a bang. The bark of the tree splintered in all directions. He continued to run. Man still pursued him. Knowing this, his heart filled with dread. The pursuit an endless one. "Sakari, I fear I may not last. I hope my brother fares better so he can protect you and our young." Overhead another booming sound rang throughout the land on the heels of a streak of light. Down poured the tears of the sky. So quick did they land upon the leaves, the ground, the creatures of the forest who'd not yet taken shelter. Man too soon found themselves soaked through. Earning the woodland inhabitants a momentary respite. The large male made his way back to the den where his mate had finished whelping a litter. "Sakari, are you well?" From the den, a pair of eyes peered out. One gold and one brown. "I am well, Waltz, and so too are our little ones. Four healthy pups." Waltz's tail lifted into a wag, for but a moment he relaxed. Yet, Man, he knew remained. "I only wish it were safer here to raise them." "Fret not my beloved Onvlk. We will manage somehow to raise our pups." Waltz turned around with a jolt and a low growl as the bushes not far from the den rustled. Out stepped a cautious black paw and a voice well known to the new parents, the Onvlk and his Onavlk. "Brother, I see the great mother has brought us luck this eve." The fur on his back settled down upon realizing this was not Man, nor a threat to his offspring's life. "Peabody! You escaped Man too." "That I did. Now, please, do tell me what gifts you and Sakari have been given this day." "Four fine pups." He turned back around to gaze at the den where his mate kept the newborns warm with her body as they suckled greedily at her teats. "How many males and females were born?" Sakari's jowls parted to emit a yawn before she answered. "Three fine males and one female. Each of them with a voracious appetite." Peabody let out an incredulous yip, "A female? Impossible." Sakari growled, "Waltz and I have a daughter." Waltz's tail rose and arched up over his back with a slight wave. "I understand my dear brothers' confusion. There has not been a female born to the Spirit Song Pack in the past thirteen generations." Peabody lowered his head, "Forgive me, Onavlk." Sakari grunted and lowered her own head. To her paws. Her eyes drooped closed. "There is naught to forgive." Waltz turned from his mate and their pups to stare out at the raging storm. "The ancestors have been angered this day. But I do not know that they will be able to keep us safe long enough for the pups to get strong and leave this place of danger." "Do not fret so, brother, they will always watch over us. We will find a way." He gazed to the skies above. "I pray you are right, Peabody. For all wolfkind." Waltz kept vigil at the entrance of the den as his brother turned to leave. He watched him slip into the night betwixt a couple of tall bilberry bushes. Next Chapter

  21. "Oh, um.. I'm just checking around, this is my very first day on the job. I'm trying to get to know the island!" She explained quickly, examining the dark-furred fanged nicheling. She curled her fluffy tail, Wren peeked over examining Zorthok's coat. "Red stripes.. How curious and mysterious.." she thought.

  22. Wren let out a big sigh, she glanced back over to the Elder Bear and Anepa. She shot them a quick smile and then flapped her chestnut wings. Wren picked up wind and started her way to the northeast portion of the island. A soft call from a little behind her sent her dead in her tracks. She whipped her head around towards the sound. Her blue eyes widened as she laid eyes on the equally blue bird of prey. She shuddered and beat her wings rapidly to escape the bird. Of course it paid no attention to her, she still didn't want to encounter it. She feared it would challenge her.. She hummed a little tune trying to calm herself down. A rustle bellow her caught her attention. "Predator!" Her mind screeched. She hovered over the patch of rustling grass. "No, no, no... Far too small for a humongous beast.." She sighed in relief. "Imagine how impressed Anepa and the Elder Bear would be if I caught a predator on the first day of the job.." She wondered to herself. She flew to the ground, revealing what was hiding in the patch of long grass with one outstretched wing. A little bunny with it's whiskers quivering squeaked in fear. "Aha!" She yelled out loud, "You're going in my newest collection!". She swooped her wings around the rodent, it squealed and struggled. The bunny eventually scrambled out of her wings. "Whatever... I bet someone will find and eat you." she scoffed to herself as she flew into the sky again. She sighed in boredom, but then a little spark of excitement thrilled her as she noticed how close she was to the Aquamarine Marsh. She gradually approached the mushy ground below her. "Hello everyone!".

  27. Wren nodded quickly, her eyes wide with new gained information. "She sure does know all about snails.." She murmured to herself. She stalked over to the base of the mangrove tree and chose a purple shell with light green stripes. "How intriguing." She hopped from on paw to another. She flew off towards main camp. A little away from the camp she set aside a place to store her valuables. She placed the shell in a patch of green grass, she lifted back into the sky and started flying towards the south east coast of the island. She landed on the sand beside Algae cove. Her tail curled excitedly and she approached the turquoise water. She peered into the water, searching for a webbed nicheling.

I have a couple other chapters typed up if anyone is interested in reading more.
