  1. Hi there, It was my first time running Niche, and I really enjoyed the game. But the translating stuff is a little bit confusing, I've seen there're several minor translate issues with simplified Chinese version. And I'm a Chinese native speaker, who is willing to help. I mean, is there any possibility that I can contribute to language things? Like what other games do. For example, the first circled word that is shown in the 3rd picture attached should be "进度条" but not "酒吧" And some of the words shown in the 2nd picture are simply broked.

  3. I've done console commands and I suggest you don't give a nicheling the status effect "pregnant" and put them on a nest, because this happens

  4. I did this with the move occupant and changing some genes

  5. I know this isn't really a suggestion, but I think this is the best place to put this. This is basically the ultimate sandbox mode where it has suggestions that I took from others, suggestions I made myself, and suggestions that I thought of first but then someone posted about it. I do not think that all of this will be implemented; I just thought it would be best to just create the ultimate ideal instead of something with less. Also because of where I got the suggestions, anyone is free to separate any of my suggestions into their own post because I don't remember/know which ones are which anymore. For upvoting and comments, I'm thinking if you just like the format or not rather than everything. I also wanted to mention that I have not finished all of the concept art I wanted to make, but I felt bad about teasing this for a really long time and not posting it because I got really busy and haven't had time to work on it, so I will most definitely update this later (how much later, I don't know). Without further ado, here it is: This is the new page that will appear when Sandbox mode is clicked (the buttons on this page are subject to change due to some pages not being fully thought out yet) (also I know that it says arcade mode and that's because I thought that have "challenges" would be arcade mode exclusive, but there is now a suggestion for that so I'll fix that later): I think that these categories are best to fit all of the suggestions I've seen and will go more in-depth with each one when I get to them. You'll notice a difficulty meter in the upper right-hand corner which will shift depending on your options or due to combinations of your options. Also in the bottom right-hand corner, there is a "Save Challenge" button which is meant to give you a code to send to other players. Now I will start with "Starting Island" and go down from there: This is just a standard selection and is pretty self-explanatory. However, you will notice there are two other buttons not usually found on this screen: "Custom Islands" and "Randomize". For the "Custom Islands" button, you will be able to create your own islands, play on previously made islands, or import islands. Selecting a previously made/imported island will look like this: Creating islands can be very versatile. You can make a specific island with specific placements for objects like trees and rocks, or you can make it more general like having three burrows spawn somewhere on the island. I believe the rest is self-explanatory. Next is the "Randomize" button: I think that this one is pretty self-explanatory as well. The next category is the "Mutation Menu" button: Here is a menu of all the genes in the game, not just the ones in the mutation menu. This allows one to add more genes to the mutation menu if they so desire. The green buttons seem pretty self-explanatory besides the "Custom" button. The "Custom" button allows you to edit the unlockablility of the genes meaning if you wanted to change the unlockability requirement for round ears to "discover all islands", you could. The color code may seem complicated, but you only need to focus on the top row. Clicking on any of the colors at the bottom themselves will allow you to either select or deselect all of the genes in that category. Double-clicking the colors on the top row in edit mode will allow you to change the status of those genes. The next category is "Starting Creatures": Here you can select the amount and specific creatures you want for your save file. In the future, I will add a random amount button to the "# of Creatures" button. For the "Specific Creatures" button, you can, well, pick specific creatures. You can create the creatures through a simplified version of my creature creator that only involves the ability to make one-off creatures. It currently isn't there, but in the future I will add a "Random" gene that allows you to have random aspects of your starting creatures. Next is the "Entity Factors" button: Here you can customize your wildlife. Spawn rate involves another screen that has a master spawn rate along with custom spawn rates for specific islands and island levels. Stats involve what you can typically see on entities such as strength, speed, collecting, etc. Extra involves anything from diet to fear to movement type. At the bottom of this page, there would also be a custom button. In the custom button, you can use one of the pre-existing entities as a base for a new creature that could involve simple color palette differences, size differences, and part editing. An example of part editing would be like making a balance bear have slightly longer and larger claws. Unfortunately, this is the last picture I have, but I will continue to explain the rest of the buttons. The next category is "Environmental Factors". This section includes weather, plant life, starting food, and starting nesting material. The weather section would include a button for where, how often it would occur, and effects. The plant life section would include where, how often it would occur, effects, food provided, and respawn rate. The final factor category is "Nicheling Factors". This section is about your creatures themselves and includes everything from lifespan (overall length and life stage length), food expendability, amount of energy, energy regained, dietary restrictions, sickness, population size (which could include island proportionality), and genes (which includes amount of mutations, hiding certain genes, gene dominance, and immunity genes (amount and importance). Next is "In-game Toggles". This section is the most arbitrary as it acts as either an easy way out of mistakes made whilst in this menu or to sustain evidence of completion. What I mean by that is that this section either says you are allowed to change such qualities after the save file is made or not. Subjects that you are able to allow to change include being able to show genotype, gene unlockability, conditions, mutations, sickness, notifications, population size, and gene existence and rarity. The final section is "Challenges". Here you can create custom conditions that can be more harshly reinforced in-game. So the game would give you tasks to complete with genes which could be either continuous or one-offs. ex: have only yellow eyes in your pack You would also have the ability to customize what types of challenges, time limits, predators, disease, pack size, etc. The types of challenges you could have could be “Create a Creature” where you make a specific creature (which could vary in how specific), “Dominant Trait” where you make one or more traits be prevalent in all of your creatures (which could extend into phenotype or genotype), “Natural Selection” where you try to eliminate one or more traits from your pack (which could be paired up with other challenges and be ongoing meaning you can never have that trait in your pack), etc. There would also be an option for lives as in how many times you can fail objectives. You would also have a code to send challenges to send to other Niche players. The code could be set up as just a long number sequence where each number represents a stat. In the code, you might even be able to get really specific like the exact challenges you get. ex. 050003 (followed by more 0s) would represent 5 challenged by the first two digits, an infinite time limit represented by the third and fourth digits, the starting island would be the grass adventure island represented by the last two digits, etc. (If there’s a better and shorter way to do this, then I’m game as well) The game mode will end once all objectives are met, are failed to be met, all creatures are dead, or all lives are lost. If you have lost, there’s also the option to view the island. All creatures would have no energy and you couldn’t pass the day. It’s purely there for you to view your failed tribe and send it to others if you’d like. So, that's that I guess. Please feel free to comment below if anything else needs to be clarified or whatever else. I most likely have an explanation, I just forgot to include it. I'd be happy to explain whatever!

  7. ok hi im bored and want to play niche ok? ok lets start I would go with the whole adam's story thing but that's boring so adam is now widowstar, who ran away from his original family with dreams of leading a clan. he ventures into the swamp looking for a challenge, but only finding berries and reeds. widowstar, the self proclaimed leader of widowclan, decides the "responsibe adult thing" to do is to migrate in search of wandering nichelings. arriving on this strange new island, he finds an actual adult (thank god, nobody can trust this kid on his own) called thornwhisper. she's actually very serious and knows her way around, which is a contrast to widowstar, who thinks he is like that but is actually a dumb idiot. thornwhisper tries to get widow "star" to actually be serious, but he runs off, killing a mole. although she is impressed, she also goes to kill a rabbil with ease. both of them are jealous of eachother, especially since widowstar is actually an adult now. time to stop being mean to widowstar. after some more "quality" time spent together, they agree this island is too small to hold the both of them and their urge to adventure, so they migrate to a new island. not before widowstar kills a mole because widowstar. he didn't even get to collect the meat the absolute idiot on the new island, thornwhisper is faced with a nest right in her face next to a berry bush- the perfect spot to raise their first child. widowstar tells this to thornwhisper, but she says: "im already pregnant" dun dUN DUUUUUUNNNN (ok that wasn't a shock at all im just trying to make this playthrough somewhat serious) here we are, on the new island. what will widowstar think of the first child of not only himself, but of widowclan? what will they both think when they end up on another boring grassland island with no challenge? what will they think when they find out this is where they will die and they will stay here forever because their life is only a few weeks long and they are only merely here to produce offspring and pass on their genes and that there is an overlord looking over their whole lives and that their existence is an illusion created for the entertainment of a superior species, laughing as they slowly wither away and die? FIND OUT IN LIKE 10 MINUTES OR SOMETHING BECAUSE IM GONNA CARRY ON PLAYING

  8. Decide you’ll have a normal playthrough like usual Give up and cheat in 999999+ food Don’t bother on winter-friendly genes since you can breed faster than rabbits and huddle together for warmth instead See a wanderer? New recruit. Be like me and don’t look at the fertility at all Double-immunity? Either just... Consle the creature and say “DeleteOccupant” or introduce that nice J immunity in 20 islands early Bearyena appears? We can deal with that. Balance bear? DeleteOccupant’s still your friend, so... Get over 50+ creatures and become a mini 14th-century London (haha funny Black Death) Profit!

  10. Nah. We're the slaves. We line up to adopt them. We examine them until one of them bonds to us, and we submit to it's will. We bring it home, we manage their medical care, we feed them and we clean their poop on a daily basis. They are definitely our masters.

  13. When you click on the file in the post, it will automatically be downloaded into your Downloads folder. Open up the folder and find the file. Then either drag or cut and paste the savefile into Niche's saves folder. Make sure there aren't any toher savefiles with the same slot number. (if there are, cut and paste them into a different folder so you can save it for later) Then you can open up Niche, and you can play that savefile! I copy and pasted @Skysplash8's text. Skysplash8, is that okay?

  17. I think Argy, after Argentavis, monster vulture. Or Phorus, after the genus Phorusrhacidae, witch were terror birds. Maybe Haast, for Haast's eagle( those big birds are Moas). Terror birds again. There my favorite magafauna.

  21. PITCHER BODY: Three different designs: Based off of the many water capturing rain forest plants Based off of a closed umbrella Based off of a really cool desert beetle I saw in a documentary once. Affects: This body would fill up with water on 3 stages: Each turn not under cover in rain: +1 Underwater: +3 Night: 10% for +1 Night in Savannah: 25% for +1 Night in the cold: 2-5% for +1. When this nicheling clears snow +1 stage While full at any stage +1 heat resistance and -1 cold resistance When full at any stage a nicheling, other than the one with the gene, can drink the water and completely replenish their energy for -1 stage. Why: My main inspiration was the beetle that traveled to the top of a dune and did a handstand for a hour letting water condense on itself. It had microscopic channels on it to get the water to it's mouth. I chose 3 designs based off of three different designs that can hold water. Possible events: Misty days: 25% each turn for +1 stage (also would cool creatures and create a fog) There could be a version for every gene slot (Tail, snout, paw) , but I though a different body would be better

  23. Whenever I got an animal I didn’t like or a horny male in one particular save, I would replace their name with either a cuss or an insult. (Example: a horny male impregnates a girl; renames the horny male to “a stupid little sh-“)

  27. flamethorn suddenly leaps away from bloodmoon (whilst he is talking to her, how rude!) to catch a mole, and she succeeds with ease. the tribe is starting to realise how skilled of a hunter she really is. and well done me I just tried to move the camera and skipped the day, so a lot of things just happened. just as they nearly got to the nest nightheart was born in, she passed away suddenly before raincloud could do anything. she runs to her sister's side in tears and tells her the news, and she is in so much shock she doesn't know what to do. she asks to see her, and they go to her remains. maplestar follows, comforting the sisters as he did when cloudmeadow hurt her paw. the news spreads to the tribe, but they all know deep down nightheart will be happy to see her mother and father again, and the day continues on without a lot of mourning. maplestar offers to dig up a grave for her, and the two happily accept, as they place their mother in the grave. bloodstripe is quite distressed because she knows she will pass soon if her sister passed, and goes to her mate to tell her the news. he is happy to know, since he will also pass soon, and he wouldn't want his mate to be left behind without him for too long. they tell their children the news too, and they are quite sad, but know life will continue the next day, sprucespike passes peacefully in the night, leaving bloodstripe quite sad, but she continues with the day. raincloud made her way to her mother's nest in the night, and she settles down peacefully, studying the decorations left by her ancestors. she decides to stay a while longer, and maplestar decides to finally confess to cloudmeadow. she happily accepts to becoming mates, especially since he is the one who confronted her mother so many days ago, and they decide to use the nest raincloud has decorated. however, they cannot make it to the nest in time, and raincloud takes this as an opportunity to decorate the nest even more. redwood digs a grave for her father, and they bury him quietly near the nest. the next day passes quickly for bloodstripe and her children, who are lonely without the other three- who are busy settling down for cloudmeadow's baby. the nests are deteriorating without raincloud, and the tree has been nearly abandoned altogether. the day passes, and a baby boy is born! they call him hazelbreeze after his mane, which reminds all of them of the baby's grandmother, hazelmist. maplestar immediately senses the home island immunity inside of him, and says he could become hazelstar one day in the future. the rest of the day is food gathering, and things seem peaceful on the island. however, when all seemed peaceful, a wandering nicheling called oakblaze announced his presence to the rest of the tribe "weak ones!" he bellows, his claw glinting in the sun shining through the clouds. "I have come to seek the fierce beauty of the fair maiden, lady flamethorn! where art thou, my precious rose?" everyone immediately looked to flamethorn, who was shocked by the sudden appearance of this nicheling and his strange way of speaking, but somewhat intrigued. he was very confident like her, and had a fiery red mane, which she saw as quite handsome. to be continued tomorrow (or maybe today)!! hopefully you like oakblaze, I got pretty creative with him ^v^

  28. What I do if a nicheling gets stunned, I crack all the other coconuts except the one that hit my nicheling. Usually my nicheling wakes up the next day or the following day rarely. I noticed that when I crack the coconut that hit the nicheling, it seems the chance of being hit again is higher as nichelings would be stunned for many days...is this true?

  29. This will be added, but the maximum tribe start size is 10 for now. Each Nicheling can be random, fully customized or a mix ^^

  30. I was searching through commands on Niche when I saw this, I don't know if everyone knows about it. If you want to reset your achievements (for some reason) then press f1 and alt, type ResetAllAchievements_BEWARE and then press esc. I haven't tried it, but it probably works? I'm not testing it out. I hope this helps? (It likely won't because most people like keeping their achievements, but someone might want to do some over again)

  31. I've had plenty of dreams involving Niche, but the one that takes the cake was one where the main plot took place on these forums and had absolutely nothing to do with the game. So, I was playing Niche, transferring from an ice island to a jungle (or was it the other way around?), and periodically checking on drama that was happening in one of the threads. Get ready: Specifically, some random guy was angry that Jojo, who was a fanfiction writer in the dream, wasn't updating his anime shipping fanfic fast enough for that person's tastes, and he was demanding that Jojo update his fanfic RIGHT NOW. He was spamming a normal thread with angry demands and fanart of his favorite ship, which I admit were actually pretty good. Jojo and Philo kept telling the guy to back off because this is a thread about Niche, not about his favorite ship, and that you can't rush a story. The guy refused to back off. It ended with him getting banned. I was laughing the entire time because I thought it was hilarious that someone would use this forum to yell at a mod for not updating their fanfic.

  36. This will be added in the next update. How it works: You can choose how long each age level is (baby, child, teen, adult). And you also get a damage multiplier if you want your Nichelings to live longer, but still take significant damage from attacks, hunger etc.

  37. We added is as a sandbox mode setting when starting a new game and also as a console command ^^

  38. The basic idea is that a tribe such as Adam's inhabits the same islands you do. They want to steal your food, nests, or attack your pack under certain conditions. This was already suggested before the wings update multiple times. Is there still interest in the community concerning rival tribes? They would make the game significantly harder.
