  1. so i was thinking what if nichelings with around 4+ digging can dig burrows to protect baby nichelings from the blue bird and maby add a bit of camouflage. the burrrow takes 5 nesting material to build and will collapse after 7 *days and the nicheling inside will have to be dug out. every day the nicheling is inside the collapesed burrow they will take 1 day of damage, after 5 *days the burrow will begin to fall apart and you can fix it by using 2 nesting material. Edit: I changed turns to days ( that's what i originaly ment)

  2. This just came to my mind after I read a steam post where a Nicheling was stunned for ten days until it died because the coconuts kept falling. So here we go: once your Nicheling is stunned if you don't pick up the coconut no new coconut wil fall and the Nichling can be free again while only taking one point of damage.

  3. I wanted to suggest the idea of adding other stray tribes. They will have to meet much less often than ordinary single niches. The number of them from 5 to 10-15.You can unite tribes for 30-50 units food (in dependence from kolichestva tribe). To propose to unite the tribes need the alpha male/female(after the unification of the tribes, alpha of a stray tribe will be Beth).Of course you can offer to leave your tribe and join your tribe a separate niche. Sorry if I accidentally stole someone else's offer)

  4. Electric reel The Electric reel is a combination of an Electric eel and an Electric ray. They spawn in oceans and Jungle rivers. They are quite uncommon. Movement: Electric reels often stay under the sediment during the day, making them hard to see, however they sometimes move, but at night, they rise out of the sediment and hunt for their prey, using their shock ability to kill and eat fish Habitat: Electric reels live in the ocean and in rivers in jungle biomes(but no easy islands or medium islands) Hunting: when you attack or step on it, it unleashes its electric shock(will shock the predator even if not in water), the shock will paralyze anything that doesn't die from it(crabbits, fish, and rabbils die instantly) for 3 turns and deals 1 damage in a 3 tile radius in the water, this shock takes 3 turns to recharge, it will also flee when attacked, they drop 35 food when killed However, a special gene can be unlocked called shocking tail that gives immunity to electricity and an ability to make shocks to paralyze attackers for 3 turns after the stun, which also make the attacks pierce defense Gene: Shocking tail +Electrical resistance +1 swimming with water body -1 cold resistance +Power shock(when attacking, the target gets stunned for 3 turns, this also pierces defense) unlock conditions: kill and eat an electric reel Lifespan: They live for 75 days. Diet: Electric reels eat fish, clams, worms and crabbits Abilities: 4 swimming 1 cracking 1 attack 1 defense 2 eyesight 4 smelling 2 hearing electroreception(ignores all stealth, odor disguise and camo as long as it is in water) Thunderstruck(a powerful shock that requires 3 turns to recharge) Size: slightly larger than a nicheling Cleaner Crab The Cleaner crab is a combination of a cleaner shrimp, ghost crab and swimming crab(there are 4 swimming crab hind legs on its rear), they spawn around coral(in warm oceans, occur in reefs) or on beaches, they are quite uncommon on the beach, but very common near rock reefs or coral Movement: The cleaner crab often moves around if spawned on a beach, they mostly scuttle along, looking for food, or they swim/walk around corals/healing plants if they find them, they move when you move, they also move 3 times at night Habitat: Cleaner crabs live in the ocean and beaches surrounding most biomes except for mountain biomes and easy islands Hunting: when attacked, it will attack for 1 damage and bolt at high speed, often into water or animal burrows to escape, however, this isn't worth it because they remove parasites and only give 3 food when killed, they will also eat healing plants to restore their health Lifespan: they live for 30 days each Diet: these crabs feed on clams, carcasses, nuts, coconuts, water ticks, leeches and sea lice Predators: Smelling and hearing apes(one shot it), however it will flee from them Abilites: 4 speed(often walks at 2, runs at 4 when attacked/threatened) 4 swimming(often swims at 2, sprints at 4 when threatened/attacked) 1 cracking 1 attack 4 defense Distasteful appearance 3 eyesight 3 smelling 2 hearing Size: crabbit sized Sea lice Sea lice are a combination of sea lice and a normal sucking louse, they rarely(5% everyday) randomly spawn in the deeper parts of the ocean or rarely in rivers(1% everyday) Habitat: Rivers and Ocean, however, they are quite rare and never spawn on easy islands or medium islands Movement: Sea lice hardly move at all on their own, they often wait for a host to come by in a 6 tile radius, then they bolt to it with their 5 swimming, they act like more annoying leeches, they also can terrifyingly enough, walk around on land(2 speed) and latch onto hosts and begin to feed Hunting and prevention: Sea lice are ravenous and occur in swarms of 5-10(all fit in the same tile), making them hard to catch without being eaten alive, armored body creatures are immune to their effect, but they will wait until a more suitable host comes along such as a fish, however having poison or venom will kill the lice when they attack, and distasteful scent will make them ignore the entity, then they can be taken if the creature can catch fish/insects cleaner crabs can and will eliminate entire swarms in one turn, even if attached to another creature Notable Characteristics: When they attack, they may give the host heavy bleeding the next day and inflict the Sea lice status effect(until it is cured by the ways to hunt them above), which functions like poison Diet: anything and everything with no defense, poison or distasteful scent, also carcasses, however, they prefer carcasses and will only attack living hosts after 3 days of not finding any food Lifespan: one swarm lasts 20 days, but every time one of their hosts dies, a new swarm is created unless it was cured by cleaner crabs Size: one individual is slightly smaller than a leech Water tick Water ticks are a combination of a water spider and a tick, they can live in waters anywhere, but are most common hiding in algae clumps in cooler seas and occur in swarms of 2-3 Movement: Water ticks rarely stray from the grass or algae clump they stay in, but hop onto any suitable host(no defense, poison or distasteful scent) Habitat: grass and plants around rivers, algae anywhere except easy islands Hunting and prevention: Creatures with collecting can remove the ticks, flying creatures can also eat these ticks without getting hijacked, the ticks will also die from high heat like that in the Savannah biome, or extreme cold, like that in mountain biomes(not around rivers) and will be readily eaten by cleaner crabs Diet: Mammal blood(aka things like walrus deer, nichelings and rabbils) Notable Characteristics: 2.5% of the time, Green Water ticks will spawn in a swarm, these transmit lyme disease, making a creature have one less action point and die after 10 days of infection, which can be cured by eating any sort of healing plant or by not moving 2 days in a row, also Lyme disease can never be caught by a creature twice once it is cured, they also give the debuff called tick infestation, which will lower the creatures speed, swimming and flight by 1, which can be removed by grooming, and cleaner crabs Lifespan: one swarm lasts 30 days before natural causes catches up, but they come off within 5 days of sucking, die and make 2 new swarms Size: one individual is about as large as a leech One thing though, all these creatures don't spawn in easy islands

  5. Before you read: I plan to post here more stories about the non nicheling creatures that inhabit the world of niche, writing from their point of view, so I would love to see what you think, so feel free to comment! Also if you want, you could try to re create part of the story in game! It was a dark day on the mountains, some time ago, a balance bear had separated a pregnant nicheling from her tribe. She managed to gain some distance and hide behind a rock. The bear lost her tracks, but the snowstorm was cold and relentless. She built a nest in desperation, using some of the white flowers she had, and she curled up to endure the cold. The next day, as the sun escalated the mountain, it revealed the frozen remains of the mother, and a snow white baby with grey ram horns sleeping by her side. Suddenly, a three mysterious creatures started rushing to their location. Three ramfoxes.- Well well well, what do we have here- Alpha, said. -Looks like lunch, lets feast!- Kevin exclaimed as he rushed to the baby, but Betty, the beta of the pack, stepped in front of him. -Wait- she whispered -Just look at him, does he not remind you of a baby ramfox?- Betty murmured in a sweet tone. -I do not care!- Kevin yelled as he lunged himself to the baby, sinking his teeth deep in its soft flesh... Or thats what he was thinking would happen. Instead, the baby just stared at him as he struggled to get a good bite in the nicheling's ultra hard body. - Don't you see it has armored body?- Alpha laughed. -Damn it, at least the mother does not have armor- Kevin insisted. -The mother is too cold to eat,- Betty replied. -Besides, if we can't eat the baby, why don't we keep him? We wont gain anything by just leaving him. -Have you gone mad!?- Kevin yelled. - How are we supposed to feed it? -Betty has a point- Alpha continued.- There are plenty of rabbils here, and one gives sufficient food for the four of us. Kevin started screaming. -DONT YOU SEE HE IS A NICHELING!!! Those greedy beasts invade our homes and steal our food! We have to always hide, and when we are so desperate that we are forced to eat their babies, they just kill us!- Betty kept her usual calm expression. -He wont become like the other nichelings if we raise him in the ways of the ramfox. He will grow as a ramfox and hunt with the pack, he would be a valuable hunter with his speed, and maybe he could even help us reason with the nichelings in the future.- Her words managed to really calm down kevin, and suddenly, he felt a warm touch in his tail. The baby hugged him firmly with a wide smile on his face. -Tata!- The baby smiled, forcing a smile on kevin's face too. -Yep, he fell for the baby already.- Betty whispered. As the seasons passed, the baby nicheling, Tata, grew up strong and adventurous, hunting with the ramfoxes, he was a valuable member of the pack, and being widely accepted. Alpha and Betty had two sons, Rascal and Scout. Those two, along with their adoptive brother Tata, became great hunters, but they kept getting in trouble. Rascal was the clown of the group, always joking, while Scout tried to befriend basically every mountain dweller, which worried his parents, but Tata showed a great interest for the nicheling tribe established in the mountainside. One day, the three of them got too close to nicheling territory while chasing rabbils. When they were about to catch their prey, they heard a terrified call. -RAMFOXES! Protect the babies! RUN! Warriors, please save us!- The brothers realized that the nicheling's nest was close, as a proud brown nicheling stumbled down the snowy mountain with a menacing claw. -Guys, I think we should go.- Rascal said as the warrior walked closer. -I may not be able to take you on alone- the warrior said,- but my partners will come. Tata stepped between the nicheling and his brothers. -This is just a misunderstanding.- He said confidently.- We mean no harm. -Hah!- The warrior laughed. - What a joke! You helping these beasts!? Just come help me kill them.- He pushed Tata aside and raised his claw. The foxes stepped back, but he swiped with extreme speed! However Tata managed to shield them with his armored body, causing the claw to bounce off. -YOU BARBARIC IDIOT!- The warrior roared. -If you are with these beasts, then you will perish too! Come here Bertha!- As he called, a great beast surged from the snow. The most terrifying thing a ramfox could ever see. A hybrid, with white fur and blood red eyes, the legs and head of a bearyena, and the speed of a nicheling, clearly old and close to expiring, but still fearsome and agile, it started rushing toward them. -HAH!- Rascal yelled.- That thing cant get past Tata! - Actually...- Tata whispered.- I think we should run. -FUDGE!- Rascal screamed as they started running. The chase was desperate. They were fast, but the hybrid started getting closer and closer. -Follow me!- Scout said. - I know of a place where we will be safe!- They made a sharp turn and started running by the mountainside, but the hybrid climbed up. As they neared a humongous pile of snow, the creature surprised them from above and jumped in front of them, getting between them and the giant snow pile. Dusk was transforming into night, and the old hybrid made her move. Showing her razor sharp teeth, she let out a war cry and pounced to them with meteoric force! BUT THE MONSTROUS SNOW PILE BURSTED TO LIFE! A great paw knocked the hybrid out of the air, and the balance bear revealed itself! With the strength of the mountain the bear roared as it crushed the beast beneath the snow. The king of the mountain let out a victorious snarl, as he turned towards the brothers, Scout being the only one not paralyzed by fear. The bear just smiled. -Let me guess- Tata realized. -Its one of your friends.- Yep- Scout said with a satisfied smile. -Lets go home bros, and thanks Snowflake. -Youre WeLcOmE!- The bear growled.

  6. this is a question for the developers of the game: after playing and having trouble with the genders and immunity genes as usual, i looked at the family tree and started thinking, and here is the question: does the game decide the gender and immunity genes by looking at what the tribe has or the generation? if it does look at the whole tribe i think that the trouble with gender and immunity genes starts there, like if you have a lot of old females the game will try balance it out by having more boys but the females being older will probably die before long and you are stuck with more males than females and thus the cycle starts anew, and i think it is the same with the immunity genes. so if i'm right i would like an option for the thing that decides those things to look ate the generation, if i'm wrong well, that's life. and the reason i don't post it in feature request is i'm not sure about it

  8. I remember when I had my first snow tribe and I named every single walrusdeer in order to keep track of which ones were still alive. If you watched Seri's jungle tribe, you might remember Not good. I miss that. I think that the ability to rename should be added back in for all wandering entities with the info window, exept wandering nichelings.

  9. So I was thinking, wouldn't it be cool if certain creatures had affinities with each other in a pack? How it would work: There would be 5 different affinities. "hate" "dislike" "Neutral" "like" and "love" Nichelings would automatically love their parents. Niches that breed together may up their affinities with each other. Two niches that have a high affinity for each other may have a better chance at procreating. Two niches with hate or dislike for each other have more issues procreating successfully. Niches gain affinity from the pack by hunting food, berry picking, and becoming alpha. A niche creature with "hate" affinity from multiple pack members may be automatically forced from the pack, though this would be a VERY RARE occurrence! And you can win back your member with 5 food like a wanderer, and their affinity would be reset! Thats just my idea! I think it would help add on to the importance of collecting food, and also help give the game a sort of pack hierarchy aspect besides the alpha, beta, and omega roles. It would also be a good aspect to the Rping part of the game :3

  10. I thought it might be cool to add a horn type unlocked after so many days in the savanna, the opposite of that for the mountain/snowy biome. When I think of horned animals in the Savanna I think of the Kudu, a deer looking creature with tall, twisted horns. I drew some in my art class today and edited them onto a nicheling model. They would have the usual +1 strength of horns and for unlocking would require the same amount of attack and days in the biome as the antlers would

  11. Apparently nobody has suggested this. Why raise water nichelings when water biomes are so BORING? there is not enough to explore down there. I feel like maybe these suggestions will make it a little more intresting? More fish: I know we have alot already, but it would be cool if we had fish for deep oceans and rivers. So here are my fish ideas! River fish: Salmon. Just an ordinary salmon that goes up stream and then dies. dead body kinda like the clown koi. Deep ocean: Bass. Litteraly a bass. Troop, A trout that swims in groups of 2/3 Tropical fish: Colorful fish that just swim around like a fish. Now sea plant life! Corals: Corals can come in colors of Purple, pink, red, orange, and yellow. Seaweed: It grows very tall and has tons of nesting material. Very common deep in the ocean. Squids: Little squid that ink you if you attack them. the inking takes away one turn for three days. they give 3 food. Pufferfish: They give 2 food and once attacked they puff out and deal one attack to surrounding nichelings. Bubble columns: They randomly start blowing at dig sites at least 5 tiles deep into the ocean. They launch your nicheling up into the air for about 1 second before they come back down. And yeah.. Thats it.

  12. So there are genes like derp snout and deformed paw, but there isn't a bad body gene. It's name would be Deformed body or some other name like Hunched body or Cripple Back. It would come with -1 speed, -1 attack, and -1 collecting because the hunched/crippled/deformed body would restrict the nicheling's ability to do actions a normal bodied nicheling would be able to do. While all of this sounds really bad, the chance of getting it would be low because it would be rogue exclusive, non-mutatable, and a recessive gene. Also it would give +1 Distasteful Appearance because of how ugly they would look, and I doubt a carnivore would want to eat them

  13. Maybe when you make a tribe on niche you could choose to start with 2 or a pack of 10/5. i made a challenge a long time ago which i would divide a tribe of 10 and have one side explore and be strong while the other ones would stay back, and be more chill and peaceful. but the real challenge is trying to get a tribe of 10 and trying to find creatures that can breed and not be inbred. this idea would make more variety and make challenges like that alot easier. just note this is an idea

  14. I know this was voted on last time as well, but I didn't get to vote for it so hopefully we get it this time. I would love to be able to have a nichling with both a green and blue eye or any other colors. Vote if you think this is a good idea as well ^~^

  16. Some suggestions have floated around for improved underwater biomes. A great thing to add, if that comes to pass, is underwater camouflage. Some possibilities: - "Blue" color (the gray coat seen on these cats and this dog) could provide a standard +2 while in water. - If more extensive aquatic life is added, stripes could grant camouflage in kelp beds, or spots could grant camouflage in reefs. - Countershading (dark back, pale belly) is a very common camo adaptation. Could provide bonus while swimming and flying. EDIT: If you like this, you should probably vote for the most popular water biome thread.

  17. I thought it'd be cool that if you have low fertility your nichelings can have miscarriages. Maybe you could also have miscarriages with immunity issues as well like how in real life incest can lead to miscarriages. Although I'm thinking it should be a rare occurrence, as to not annoy some players. Please don't forget to upvote this if you like the idea, I'm pretty new to the community.

  19. I love this idea!❤️ I hope it gets implemented into the game. I have 3 questions: Would it give strength because you have to be strong to cut down trees? Would the trees have a ragged stump look, because if you have ever seen a trees that was cut down by a beaver, you would know they don’t cut it down cleanly. Would it give +x smelling, and if so, how much?

  20. I'm on board with this one hundred percent. This is one of those features I dearly miss. Same with being able to name them from the info window as well.

  22. Even of you think the game is hot, yet it's just a warm-up
    1 point
  23. Yeah, what's that? Does it have a name? Will it explode when shot and does it have some lava in it that's flowing to the centre of gravity? And the hammerhead looks cool! Or hot in this case...

  24. Perhaps the Sticky Tongue could also eat bug swarms? They might not be worth much food, as getting rid of them is reward enough.
    1 point
  25. That's what I was suggesting What I mean by the body thing was similar to flying. A big bodied nicheling with wings can't fly very far (due to weight), so a big bodied nicheling would probably be too heavy to walk on snow (thus making the snowshoe paws cosmetic instead of useful). I wasn't suggesting a new body type.

  26. Actually no bat species is blind, they just dont see well

  27. And we added a new enemy for the lava biome today The Hammerhead!

  28. @Tarruvi We didn't manage to add them in time. So I'm not sure we're still adding them. Depends on what the next update includes I think.

  29. Another thing that should be toggleable, because some people use WASD to move their camera and their nichelings end up being called Ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. I move my camera with a mouse, so I would use the old way of renaming nichelings

  30. When you get the "new gene unlocked" message, there's no indication of which gene it was. Would it be possible to show that in the message?

  31. I tried to name my creatures like warrior cats once and I could never keep up with those x)
    1 point
  32. yes this would be awsome! Its also much easier to change it than from the family tree.
    1 point
  33. I would love to be able to name Nichelings through the info window again. It would be so much easier if you play with a no genetics challenge or just rename your creatures all the time like with the warrior cats challenge

  34. I’ve been thinking, ever since the ‘modes’ were added, how cool would it be to have a mode where you could design your nichelings to suit the envirnoment you want the to start in? I thought this up because I’m so tired of trying to start a snow island tribe but my starter nichelings have no cold resistance or strength and end up freezing or being slaughtered by Balance Bears. God Mode would allow you to customize your two starter nichelings, maybe with the option to randomize some of the genes to add a little spice, and you’d get to pick your island like in sandbox mode. I’ve also seen suggestions for customizable islands and I think that would go well with my God Mode idea.

  35. I like this idea! One time, I made a tribe in the 0.4.1 version of Niche and I started naming dodmingos. It resulted in a royal family of dodmingos! However, I do think that you should be able to rename wandering nichelings and rogue males from the info window as well as other entities.

  36. Due to the creation of this post since you would have multiple allies: As well as having multiple friendly bearyenas at the same time, I would like to propose giving gems to friendly bearyenas (and any other allies like the ones described in the suggestion above). You would be able to change them just like your own creatures as well to keep track of all of your bearyenas. You could also change the name of your friendly bearyenas as they could appear in the family tree just like any other creature. Somewhat related, I think having wanderers not have gems before you invite them would be great. I think that gems could be seen as a symbol of being apart of the tribe and since wanderers don't follow the 3 energy rule, it would make sense for them not to have gems. They would look like the nichelings you can create with the nicheling explorer you can find here: http://niche-game.com/nicheling-explorer/

  37. There could be more sicknesses than the common cold, like some deadly diseases, that can kill a nicheling in a few days, or can be paralyzed and get only one move per turn for the rest of its life, or even one that stunts your gwoth, yet you age.
    1 point
  38. wait the "leech disease" was a glitch where leeches would eternally drain hp from a creatures, even if it was removed also I made an idea for the jungle biome called the parasitic worms debuff, nichelings with this disease consume two food a day, have no stealth and will suffer from a status effect called internal bleeding, which functions like poison, the worms come from tiles labeled; infected mud, and are transmitted when a nicheling rolls or eats a dead carcass on that tile, to cure, a nicheling must eat a healing flower(will also eliminate internal bleeding) or be licked by a venomous creature or lick a poisonous creature(side effect of licking or being licked by toxic creatures is that other than killing the parasites, will cause the nicheling to lose 1 day of life if it is not venom resistant) also Venomous or poisonous creatures are immune to this disease

  41. I would love to see water only ports that maybe just have a small beach to start on. I also love the idea of more fish/food/enemy types and underwater caves as 'nests'. I also love the idea of seaweed as underwater nesting material. I would LOVE to see the following, in addition to the suggestions above: a lionfish mutation (poisonous and cool looking!) a clownfish mutation that allows your nicheling to change genders (in the wild, clownfish meet so rarely, that when they do, the largest one turns into a female for mating purposes). Anglerfish mutation allowing you to attract small schools of fish nearby Octopus mutation that lets you change your appearance to match your surrounding environment Giant Manta rays/sharks/killer whales as big enemies akin to apes/balance bears Octopus' as enemies (they could act like moving jungle plants that ensnare your creature and you have to free them). Squids as enemies that shoot ink (and give you a movement debuf like OP suggested) Maybe underwater nichelings with enough 'swim' or 'underwater' points could lay eggs instead? It would add an interesting dynamic of whether or not you would choose to guard your egg or just leave it. The underwater nests could still be in the shallows or have a bubble source nearby so if a baby is born that lacks underwater features it won't die immediately. Also, Bioluminescence, in the water, on the nichelings, it would be cool!

  42. Thanks for the art! About the collecting thing, im not sure, its cool but my original concept is that the honey is easy to gather for anyone. But It makes sense for the claws to have a chance of breaking the hive.

  43. I agree on more interesting underwater areas and stuff. I would personally be in favor of an underwater biome with both underwater prey and predators so your nichelings spend 90% of their time down there, and maybe a small land tile with sand or something, just to help avoid situations where you get super unlucky and a baby without gills is born underwater, lol.
    1 point
  44. I haven't even bothered with the water genes even though I love the idea of it. Not really much to play with. Coral reefs would be stunning too!

  45. @The Mad Katter Yeah like maybe a shark type thing? Shorca, a mix of a shark and orca. They could come up to breathe every five turns, coming up near the shore. Spawning around the bottom of the ocean and dropping 7-10 food? They could also steal your food too.
    1 point
  46. Ooh, I like this! It would also be cool to have underwater predators of some kind (in specific hard or killer biomes) and underwater caves to hide from the predators and raise young.
