  1. I have another topic suggesting new core designs and was thinking, "Wouldn't it be cool to be able to unlock new core designs or block colors, etc. by completing new galaxies or perhaps completing missions?" Say something like "Complete 25 sumo arenas" and it would unlock a solid gray/bowling ball like core (or maybe something even silly like a drone core wearing a sumo diaper). Some suggestions on achievements and unlocks below. Complete sumo arenas - @25 - solid color core, @50 - diaper core Complete a galaxy - @1-10, unlock a new color ring on the default core for each galaxy Destroy 100, 300 eggs/ complete 10 snake missions - Unlock a snake egg core (Yoshi egg @300?) Freeze 50, 100, 200 volcanic eruptions/ complete 10 volcano missions - Snowflake core with different shapes Destroy 25, 50, 100 transmitters - "Mechanical core" - Maybe something with hinges/hydraulics/machinery parts with more details and visible parts at higher tier

  2. Could we get an option for factory parts that toggles whether the parts attached to them will be there when the mission starts? Some of the autonomous things that I want to print with factory blocks have thrusters on them and I would appreciate being able to just not have them there until I'm ready to print and release rather than releasing them underneath the Nimbatus or trying to fly with them still attached.

  3. Now, one of the questions I’ve been having about Nimbatus is what the Lore is, or the background story. For a while, I assumed there was no Lore, which I was complaining fine with. That was until the loading hints were introduced. One of the loading hints states that “The corp have placed transmitters on every planet to keep out competing factions”. What this means is that someone controls all these planets, and does not want you there. This also explains why there are transmitter effects. Whomever set up the transmitters did so to try and interfere with the operation of your drone, to try and deter you from completing your mission. This same person also presumably spams them cannon bois on bio planets because they don’t want you to get rid of their bio-waste. Don’t know why, because it’s disgusting. However, this also raises the question of why you’re completing these missions in the first place. It likely isn’t the person who owns the planet that’s asking you to perform these actions, as they clearly want you gone. What I believe is that you work for some government agency not dissimilar to the EPA. All of the missions so far have been to reduce the population of certain creatures, or remove bio-waste, and the mission hints suggest that this is for environmentally conscious reasons. So in conclusion, the Lore of Nimbatus is that you operate in territory controlled by another faction, to perform various actions to aid a government environmental sustainability agency of some kind,

  4. I know this isn't really a suggestion, but I think this is the best place to put this. This is basically the ultimate sandbox mode where it has suggestions that I took from others, suggestions I made myself, and suggestions that I thought of first but then someone posted about it. I do not think that all of this will be implemented; I just thought it would be best to just create the ultimate ideal instead of something with less. Also because of where I got the suggestions, anyone is free to separate any of my suggestions into their own post because I don't remember/know which ones are which anymore. For upvoting and comments, I'm thinking if you just like the format or not rather than everything. I also wanted to mention that I have not finished all of the concept art I wanted to make, but I felt bad about teasing this for a really long time and not posting it because I got really busy and haven't had time to work on it, so I will most definitely update this later (how much later, I don't know). Without further ado, here it is: This is the new page that will appear when Sandbox mode is clicked (the buttons on this page are subject to change due to some pages not being fully thought out yet) (also I know that it says arcade mode and that's because I thought that have "challenges" would be arcade mode exclusive, but there is now a suggestion for that so I'll fix that later): I think that these categories are best to fit all of the suggestions I've seen and will go more in-depth with each one when I get to them. You'll notice a difficulty meter in the upper right-hand corner which will shift depending on your options or due to combinations of your options. Also in the bottom right-hand corner, there is a "Save Challenge" button which is meant to give you a code to send to other players. Now I will start with "Starting Island" and go down from there: This is just a standard selection and is pretty self-explanatory. However, you will notice there are two other buttons not usually found on this screen: "Custom Islands" and "Randomize". For the "Custom Islands" button, you will be able to create your own islands, play on previously made islands, or import islands. Selecting a previously made/imported island will look like this: Creating islands can be very versatile. You can make a specific island with specific placements for objects like trees and rocks, or you can make it more general like having three burrows spawn somewhere on the island. I believe the rest is self-explanatory. Next is the "Randomize" button: I think that this one is pretty self-explanatory as well. The next category is the "Mutation Menu" button: Here is a menu of all the genes in the game, not just the ones in the mutation menu. This allows one to add more genes to the mutation menu if they so desire. The green buttons seem pretty self-explanatory besides the "Custom" button. The "Custom" button allows you to edit the unlockablility of the genes meaning if you wanted to change the unlockability requirement for round ears to "discover all islands", you could. The color code may seem complicated, but you only need to focus on the top row. Clicking on any of the colors at the bottom themselves will allow you to either select or deselect all of the genes in that category. Double-clicking the colors on the top row in edit mode will allow you to change the status of those genes. The next category is "Starting Creatures": Here you can select the amount and specific creatures you want for your save file. In the future, I will add a random amount button to the "# of Creatures" button. For the "Specific Creatures" button, you can, well, pick specific creatures. You can create the creatures through a simplified version of my creature creator that only involves the ability to make one-off creatures. It currently isn't there, but in the future I will add a "Random" gene that allows you to have random aspects of your starting creatures. Next is the "Entity Factors" button: Here you can customize your wildlife. Spawn rate involves another screen that has a master spawn rate along with custom spawn rates for specific islands and island levels. Stats involve what you can typically see on entities such as strength, speed, collecting, etc. Extra involves anything from diet to fear to movement type. At the bottom of this page, there would also be a custom button. In the custom button, you can use one of the pre-existing entities as a base for a new creature that could involve simple color palette differences, size differences, and part editing. An example of part editing would be like making a balance bear have slightly longer and larger claws. Unfortunately, this is the last picture I have, but I will continue to explain the rest of the buttons. The next category is "Environmental Factors". This section includes weather, plant life, starting food, and starting nesting material. The weather section would include a button for where, how often it would occur, and effects. The plant life section would include where, how often it would occur, effects, food provided, and respawn rate. The final factor category is "Nicheling Factors". This section is about your creatures themselves and includes everything from lifespan (overall length and life stage length), food expendability, amount of energy, energy regained, dietary restrictions, sickness, population size (which could include island proportionality), and genes (which includes amount of mutations, hiding certain genes, gene dominance, and immunity genes (amount and importance). Next is "In-game Toggles". This section is the most arbitrary as it acts as either an easy way out of mistakes made whilst in this menu or to sustain evidence of completion. What I mean by that is that this section either says you are allowed to change such qualities after the save file is made or not. Subjects that you are able to allow to change include being able to show genotype, gene unlockability, conditions, mutations, sickness, notifications, population size, and gene existence and rarity. The final section is "Challenges". Here you can create custom conditions that can be more harshly reinforced in-game. So the game would give you tasks to complete with genes which could be either continuous or one-offs. ex: have only yellow eyes in your pack You would also have the ability to customize what types of challenges, time limits, predators, disease, pack size, etc. The types of challenges you could have could be “Create a Creature” where you make a specific creature (which could vary in how specific), “Dominant Trait” where you make one or more traits be prevalent in all of your creatures (which could extend into phenotype or genotype), “Natural Selection” where you try to eliminate one or more traits from your pack (which could be paired up with other challenges and be ongoing meaning you can never have that trait in your pack), etc. There would also be an option for lives as in how many times you can fail objectives. You would also have a code to send challenges to send to other Niche players. The code could be set up as just a long number sequence where each number represents a stat. In the code, you might even be able to get really specific like the exact challenges you get. ex. 050003 (followed by more 0s) would represent 5 challenged by the first two digits, an infinite time limit represented by the third and fourth digits, the starting island would be the grass adventure island represented by the last two digits, etc. (If there’s a better and shorter way to do this, then I’m game as well) The game mode will end once all objectives are met, are failed to be met, all creatures are dead, or all lives are lost. If you have lost, there’s also the option to view the island. All creatures would have no energy and you couldn’t pass the day. It’s purely there for you to view your failed tribe and send it to others if you’d like. So, that's that I guess. Please feel free to comment below if anything else needs to be clarified or whatever else. I most likely have an explanation, I just forgot to include it. I'd be happy to explain whatever!

  5. This is currently my biggest issue and suggestion. It looks like the order of my drones gets shuffled after restarting the game. I can see no pattern to how they are listed - not alphabetical or chronological... Tick box selection for these typical sorting options might be a basic solution. But I'd really love some kind of custom folder/tagging system, to separate out the sumo drones, at the least. And to be able to see more of them on screen at the same time (because my short term memory is bad and and bad at finding things in a long list). It also doesn't make sense that you have to scroll all the way back to the bottom, for your most recent drone, each time you go back to the select screen. Thanks, great game so far.🙂

  6. Hi everyone, Would it be possible to be able to add an option to change the colors on the neutral gray blocks/customize your core color design? I would absolutely love to be able to change the colors of blocks or the core outside of just gray and adding heat/cold plates. I would love to play around with drone designs or have cores available such as a flower, spikes, star, etc. rather than the default octagon core. Would it be possible to add in different core designs?

  8. Hi everyone, It would be fantastic if we could select the shape of aura we want from shields, coolers, and heaters. One of the most challenging things I've found with building ships small and large is using these objects in a way I find doesn't cause issues with the rest of the ship. As it is right now, only for very small drones does a single, circular cooler/heater/shield provide even coverage, but with larger drones it's nearly impossible to not create overlaps which end up unintentionally melting or freezing spots while also providing coverage of critical parts, especially since the body of a drone can flex so much during flight. I'm imagining adding a 3rd slider to the piece would be easy enough and the slider would allow you to select from circle (default), square/rhombus, rectangle, oval, and maybe even something else such as an octagon (to match the core). Being able to select the color for your shields would just be a bonus but I'm sure everyone would love it.

  9. Hopefully I'm not restating something someone else said (and hopefully you can't actually already do this and I'm just dumb and can't figure out how to do it myself) but I think it would be nice to be able to rename saved games. I always forget to name my saves when creating them and I end up with them all named New Game which is really confusing. Especially since I can't go back and rename them later. Even when remembering to name them, it'd be nice to be able to rename my save to the name of the current biome I'm in or the name of my current pack or something , too, to avoid confusion with my other saves. Sorry if this is already a feature or someone else has already suggested it!

  10. We have actually thought about adding skins as a reward for sumo-tournaments, and even have a few assets ready, it's just not implemented yet ^^ But unlocking some of them through missions/progression is a great idea, thanks for the suggestion

  11. I'm on galaxy number 6 and I'm starting to wonder if there's any type of change to look forward to? I'm getting all the same handful of missions / planet types, but I haven't seen any of the green resource yet. Speaking of which, I haven't seen anywhere to use the green resource yet, is this a place holder? I've seen tips suggesting to avoid the pirates, but I haven't seen any yet outside of the testing grounds. Have I just not plowed through enough galaxies yet?

  13. Your guess is going in to the right direction 😃 But as the Early Access Release is more sandbox like than a campaign and the factions we have planned aren't really in the game, yet, we could say, that there is not a real lore for now. PS: The main visual should give you a small hint on what's to expect in the future, too

  14. At the moment, the game is still very sandboxy, so there isn't really much of a progression from galaxy from galaxy, apart from there being more lava planets in the second galaxy. This is however one of the aspects we want to focus on during early access. That will include implementing new missions, planet types and factions, like the space-pirates, which are currently not not in the game, same with the green resource, which will be implemented with one of the next updates. Thank you for your feedback ^^

  17. i build some ships with huge amounts of logic blocks. its getting very complicated and wibbily wobbily. so i thought maybe its possible to implement an scripting Block. an block where you can do the logic stuff in a console (like lua) or like an graphical overlay like in scratch where you can drag and drop your Elements to create Logic i think it will be more easy when you controll your sensors with such an block the Pic shows an example of scratch, for guys who dosent know what it looks like

  18. It would be nice if we had hotkeys to rotate the editor grid around the core or selected part, to 45 degree angles, so that we could place angled parts next to each other without overlap problems. For many drones, rotating around the core wouldn't be enough, so ideally also have a hotkey to center the grid on the selected part because it might get wonky if we can move it and rotate it Currently you can still sort of place angled parts next to each other, but it shows an overlap and might cause physics problems, and also just tends to look messy because you can't always put the parts exactly where you want them

  19. Hi everyone, I saw some topics regarding cold planets but I didn't see anything regarding other atmospheric conditions that would really add some cool gameplay mechanics/drone building challenges. Something along the lines of planets having extra conditions with different scales such as: Wind - Force players to build drones with lots of engines Low/None: default, as the game is now; maybe very slight forces at high altitudes Medium: Maybe either a constant, low directional force that acts upon your x/y axis or occasional gusts that push you around if you're above a planet's horizon; Small -flight speed to rockets, bullets, etc. High: Same conditions as medium but more severe changes from high to low altitudes/intervals; Greatly affect bullet drop/missiles, etc. Extreme: (hurricanes/planetary storms?) Think Death Wind from the old SNES F-Zero (having to constantly fly at a 30+ degree offset + high wind gusts that push you off course); Missiles near useless (maybe just slightly alter the current existing signal affect?) Rain None/Low: No changes/default; slight visual effect Medium: Visual effect that accompanies low/medium wind; Heavy: Maybe something extreme like has some adverse affect to sensors such as disables all distance sensors, etc.? Bonus: Perhaps have rain affect bio weapons like increase the fire rate/growth rate? Temperature Probably an obvious one/already suggested but maybe give planets passive temperatures that would force you to build heaters/coolers into your design in order to not overheat or freeze while exploring (rather than just have them to counter magma/meteorites); Also on that note, maybe add in a small cooler/heater affect to plasma/cold lasers that affect a .5-2 radius around the weapon while firing (.5 for short laser, 1-2 for long/extended lasers)

  20. Planetary sumo battle would be like regular sumo battle except: - Is fought around a planet, center of the sumo arena being the center of the planet. Planet has whatever features it happens to have. - Drones are allowed to have Weapon and Defensive modules. Maybe even Factories, but those might need a max parts duplicated limit of some kind. - Larger drones should be allowed (maybe something like 250 parts or so) - Destruction of enemy core or pushing it out of the planetary orbit would be the win conditions (just like regular sumo fight I guess). Planetary sumo battle would still have these regular sumo battle features: - Border which shrinks towards the center of the arena (planetary core). This would require the drone to either be able to get inside the planet or to win before that is required. PS: The factories limitation could be something like: "Once max factory drone part limit is reached, all the existing parts of the first still existing factory production self destruct. Similar optional limit would be useful for non-sumo-factories: Max duplication slider/value, which would by default be "no limit", but could be set to be anything between 1 and n. Once this limit is reached, all the parts of the first still existing production would self destruct. This would allow the drone maker to control their memory usage, so that the load on computer won't become too heavy. I guess I should post this factory idea as separate thread, so it won't be missed because this thread talks about weird sumo battle special mode.

  21. I think that the drone core in the game currently is just a concept and and it lacks importance. So what if when building a drone, whether its the main or a factory made drone, they would all need a core, and different size cores could be chosen. The larger the core, the more blocks could be on the drone with the core. For example: 1x1 - 10 blocks, 2x2 - 25 blocks, 3x3 - 60 blocks, 5x5 ( the normal ) - 150, 7x7 - 300 blocks, and possibly more?

  22. Do you think a friendly fire upgrade that lets a weapon damage your drone parts is a possibility? It could be used to destroy excess factory part creations that are slowing the game down or have just piled up in an unappreciated location. Like if you got a harvester drone equipped with a factory part that makes resource boxes with thrusters and sensors that detach and fly to the Nimbatus to dump their contents, it might be nice to have some sort of incineration strip for them to go to afterwards. Too many times I've seen my self destruct TNT leave a single part or two behind. It could also be used with plasma and cryonic ammo types along with a damage downgrade to quickly heat or cool a drone. Just imagine if you later add more ammo types that could situationally be useful to get hit with. Also, it would allow me to make a drone with 2 decouplable/factory-made minidrones with controls set up for me and a friend to have a fight on some random planet.

  23. Currently there is a simple system to determine what kind of keys should be set on newly placed thrusters. I think that a bit of additional logic should be added: There is an arrow which shows the direction of the drone; I think the arrow direction should be changeable, and then, if the thruster faces towards the arrow direction it should be w, if it faces away, it should be s, and similar logic for a and d.

  24. I hope you're referring to the shark. I mean, just look how far apart its eyes are! It looks so dorky! Perhaps they couldn't see the missile 🤔

  25. i get what you mean now (kinda) but its actually a good idea. (just to be clear xD) if arrow points up the thrust will go up, if down the thrust will go down, etc etc and diagnal it will be like leveled? shouldn't be that hard 4 the devs (i hope)

  26. when thruster points in the same direction that the arrow points to, then it is set to w

  28. Good idea, it would certainly add another level to the design of drones We'll certainly keep it in mind, but we don't have any concrete plans for it yet, the next thing in drone brain customization is probably going to be skins ^^

  33. Arena is one of the coolest features in this game, but it gets really stale when your 99% win rate bot is still going up against drones that do nothing or kill themselves. There needs to be some kind of ladder or Elo rating system. Please make an option for competitive Sumo Arena along side what we currently have. It would be a huge draw for a lot of people!

  34. At the end of a Sumo Tournament they show how you did compared to others and it has a size break down as well. I being the puzzle fan I am I wanted to challenge my self by building a Drone for the smallest category 10 or fewer blocks. the problem is I end up facing drones more then five times my size so I have no chance of shifting them. So my highest rank of 7 wins come from dumb luck in the opponent draw and less on my skill in drone design. For Example: as you see I lost because my 10 block drone was put up aginest a drone over five times my size. Match 2 shows how there needs to be some Wins/Loss ratio as I do not see how "New Drone" has ever won a match

  35. It doesn't currently seem possible to rotate an entire drone or its core in the editor, but being able to do so would be convenient

  37. Strongly agree that a more robust match making system would go a long way to making the PvP more fun for a wide audience. Though I would recommend resisting the urge to use signals other than win/lose to rank performance it will most likely reduce the accuracy of your evaluation. I.e. don't look at the number of blocks used, just look at the outcome of the matches it's played. I expect there's an open source implementation of Glicko for unity which you could probably get working without too much effort. If not then Elo should work well enough. Assuming you don't want to license TrueSkill from Microsoft.

  38. I am hoping for a nameable folder tree Option The data is on our computers somewhere maybe they could use xml and dress up an in game file manager then to share drones you just post or email the xml file with the drones name on it. New Drone (15) maybe just the motivation people need to name their drones
    1 point
  39. I can agree with that. The opponent bots should have a wins loose ratio and each round the chosen bot should be from a higher win ratio letting the matches get harder each round. I would also like a Weight Class if I am fielding a 10 block Drone then my opponents should be closer to 10 blocks then 100 blocks and vise versus My Drone Opponent Size <11 blocks <25 Blocks 11 - 30 blocks <50 Blocks 31 - 50 Blocks 15 - 75 Blocks 51 - 75 Blocks 30+ Blocks 76+ Blocks 50+ Blocks And "New Drone" should be disqualified If you don't care enough about your drone to give it a name the no one should care if it ranks.😝 I caught the live stream on steam with the Sumo Arena I deiced from it alone that I wanted this game I love puzzles and hope there are more build automation challenges to come

  43. Let's get to the hard part. How would you explain this to a user? Looking at this with an eye for the clues it gives people, I don't think it would be at all clear to a user how to generate an output with these. Often the hardest part of things like this is presenting it in a way that they can pick up and use without a tutorial. This suggestion has been made before, though, and i supported it then, and support it now.

  44. I have only counted 6 objectives so far (transmitter, hive, snake eggs, bio barrel, unstable core, sumo) and am just throwing some suggestions out there for more Infiltrate - enter a base and steal steal the heavily guarded treasure. Would be cool to use cryogenic weaponry to freeze cameras, plasma to create a smokescreen to block a laser, bio to dig around a very secure area, or just charge in there guns blazing racing the timer for the vault to close Egg retrieval - collect the fragile egg of a rare creature for study and conservation, but the mother wont be happy about it. Extra challenge if there isnt enough magnetic material in the egg to pick it up with a magnet Destroy - an interplanetary parasite has infected this planet beyond recovery, destabilise the core so it destroys the planet before the parasite can spread. Maybe use plasma or cryogenic weaponry to heat up or cool down the core Scan - organisms have somehow managed to inhabit the harsh climate of this planet, observe and scan them so we can learn a bit more about surviving in this climate. Go around the surface and scan? maybe just get kinda close to native creatures. It could either be very hot, very cold, or a permanent meteor shower. Dismantle - take apart and retrieve parts of a crashed ship that are dangerous to the ecosystem. Perhaps parts of the ships defence system is still functional Dogfight - a malicious drone is on the loose, take it down. Like the sumo arena, except the goal is to destroy the other drone with weapons instead of pushing it out of the ring And also a couple of objective modifiers which change how you take on the challenge Interference - drone cannot be controlled, like in the sumo arena. The challenges are much simpler though and it can only apply for certain levels Territorial - a giant snake mom ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) has inhabited this planet and does not like intruders Tides - a very large moon orbits the planet which causes a tidal effects on a much larger scale, to the point of nullifying gravity or doubling it Rich Resources - theres a lot of natural resources on the planet, but because of this theres a lot of enemies to defend it I also drew a little bit for each objective/modifier because I was bored
