  1. Everyone has their own playing style, but how would you describe yours? I’ve been jumping around with different ways to play like changing the pacing and such so I’m looking for ideas. The only thing I do consistently is not use the mutation menu, as some of you might know. For me, it just feels too easy. Heres a couple questions to get you started - do you use any story/role play? and how long to you tend to stick with one game? Include any details that feel important.

  6. Most of my saves are for playthroughs so I tend to do a ton of story and stick with them for a long time. Funnily enough, because of this, it's nearly impossible for me to look at a nicheling and not think up some kind of personality for them, since I'm so used to it. Everything, no matter how strategical, always has some kind of story purpose in my head. Most of the time it all just kinda happens on it's own, and including the fact that I can basically make up personalities on the spot just by looking at a nicheling, I've somehow made countless unique characters. Which sounds great, but trust me, it's a huge pain trying to remember everything. Anytime something particularly interesting happens I just shove it into my lore somehow, which is probably why it's such a mess lmao I've got so many spirits and gods and demigods that even I can barely keep track anymore

  7. I don't really have the attention span to stick to one game for very long. I keep the save file though, because I like going back to them and playing them later. I like restarting story mode over and over again just to see how far I get before I lose interest in my Nichelings. I like roleplaying, but I always get stressed out when I try to do things like not have a Nicheling kill a rabbit because they wouldn't do that in universe. I focus more on the strategy aspect. (That's why I like Fire Emblem and Pokemon) I don't consciously decide that I'm not going to use the mutation menu, but it's just something that sorta happens. I just forget that it exists. I also use the hearing and smelling mechanic a lot more than other people I've seen, and sometimes I go for a few in-game days without switching out of it. I like to have my Nichelings keep moving. In story mode, I'll always have them moving, leaving a trail of cleared grass and empty bushes behind them. In sandbox mode, I might have them do the same thing, or I'll settle a few of them down and have the others go out and create pathways for the others to follow.

  8. I have trouble staying with one tribe. I think the main thing is that I like a challenge, so once the challenge is gone (like if I'm very low on food but then I gather way more than enough), I often just stop playing that save. However, I've managed to stay with one story mode save for over 500 days now. I think it's mostly because I've gotten far enough that I'm too invested to throw it away, plus I have a goal of getting to Home Island. Anyways, I usually have some element of story. It just kinda pops out of nowhere--I might have no story at all for most of my nichleings but just one is a character with personality and does things according to their story instead of whatever is actually best. I have a huge and complicated pantheon, so incorporating that into my game sort of helps. Most of my stories are within my pantheon, really.

  9. I'm so happy! My grandmother ordered a nicheling plushie from Jennifer Perez. The nicheling has arrived and I absolutely love her. Caramel is such a nice little nicheling, now I have something to hug while I make decisions in niche. I think I may try to recreate her in the game. May take a while, but i'll try.

  10. I really like this idea! I think it's a bit complicated, but it's cool! Depending on the size of the hummingbees (I was thinking they'd be smaller than nichelings), maybe nichelings could get the hummingbee genes by interbreeding with them? If the hummingbees are around the size of a nicheling (maybe a bit smaller), then they could interbreed normally. However, if the hummingbees are much smaller, I was thinking that there could be abnormal hummingbees, ones that were much larger (a bit smaller than or the size of a nicheling). I think this would be cool because it's a bit random chance, like having baby bearyenas show up to tame and get genes from. One other thing I thought of is that, since bees have six legs, maybe the hummingbees' hind legs could be hummingbird-like (like the ones you have in your drawing), while they also have four smaller legs on the front of their body. If this gene was transmitted to a nicheling through interbreeding, one hummingbee arm/paw/leg on a nicheling would be two small vertical ones on one side of the nicheling's body. Four front leg stats: - +2 nectar collection - +1 collecting I also attempted to make art of a hummingbee with the four front legs (I didn't add any color, but I hope you like it): Anyway, sorry for rambling, overall I think it's a pretty cool idea!

  12. The Near Finale (150-154 days in) Only 2 nichelings in the tribe remember Truffle and Brownie.. and one is halfway to death's doorstep Hare was growing old. In 7 days time, he would join his mate in the afterlife. Wikku, the only other nicheling who had been alive during the life of Truffle and Brownie, was still around the middle of his lifespan. But both still had the spark of a young nicheling. It felt like just yesterday, that Wikku had been a teen. Snowchaser led Pine towards a permanent nest on the outskirts of the camp. If they were far away, she wouldn't threaten Hare's position. Just like the Rockfall Queen's guards would do for punishments.. He realized that he still was more Rockfall than anything else. After all, he still had a Rockfall name, used Rockfall fighting techniques, and had Rockfall-like lifestyle. Snowchaser considered changing his name to not be so Rockfall-y. He then remembered Voidwalker, who had been banished yet kept his Rockfall name till the bloody end. No, he wouldn't be weak and change it. Meanwhile, Quartz sat in a hotspring long enough to begin healing and long enough to realize more than just the Frozen Empire nichelings were chasing them. Quartz and Moose decided to become mates. (Ignore the fact that they're related, I want Quartz children) Pine was likely dead, a lost cause. The only way to finish the rebellion was to grow their forces. Pine was alive, just in doubt. If Quartz and Moose weren't going to rescue her, she would rescue herself. And my terrible luck will help with that Meanwhile, strong-skinned Sakura and fierce-fighter Forest, polar opposites on the battle spectrum, were arguing. S: "You can't go after them! What if another blizzard hits? What if they kill you instead? What if the balance bear kills you?" F: "They're going to just show up again and kill all of us! Even if I die, isn't it worth a try?" S: "We're not positive you'll live!" Forest turned and raced away. Sakura wasn't strong enough to hold her back. Or brave enough to. Forest caught onto Quartz and Moose's scents quickly. They weren't far from here. Meanwhile, what did I freaking say. Whenever I try to do something, a balance bear leaps out of nowhere and beats us up. Pine and Snowchaser leaped back, but everyone was focused on the balance bear. They wouldn't notice if she ran away. Now, she could find Quartz and Moose herself. And then they'd respect her. The tribe began to group up. Hare, Snowchaser and Wikku prepared to fight the balance bear tooth and claw for their home. Sakura prepared to leap in and protect anyone. Thornbush held Almond close. She hoped that Wikku wouldn't die and not meet their third child (They don't consider Moose their child anymore) and be like Truffle to Thornbush. And worst of all, Forest, the most powerful nicheling yet, was nowhere to be found. And wait.. where was Pine? And like the snows of a coming blizzard, the balance bear descended on Hare, Snowchaser, Wikku, and the fate of the tribe.

  15. Meanwhile, Baba and Nina find the sunplant. 'Hmmmm... what's it taste like?' Nina asks 'I hear it's good.' Baba replies. 'Were you a healer on the hills? It seems you know a lot about medicine stuff.' 'Kind of.' 'I heard they live with bearyenas on the hills. Did you know any?' 'My grandfather.' 'Wow so that make you 1/3s bearyena!' 'Quarter actually, but close.' Baba hands the curious girl the yellow sunplant fruit. 'Nina might have a chance on the hills.' Baba thinks as she watches Nina wolf down the fruit.

  16. 'There's another sunplant over that way,' she points. 'I'm gonna take Nina.' Daisy stays behind and gathers berries. What is it about this bush that makes them want to blink

  17. And very luckily, the next morning brings rain! Sweet rain brings lush berries. While smelling for any potential danger, Baba catches scent of another sunplant. She gave the one near the killer plant to Daisy, of course. She is slightly older than Nina and had worse injuries than her. But since there's two and Nina is still injured it works out fine.

  19. Baba guides Daisy out of the plant and in the middle of her and Nina. From here, Baba can see that some of the pink liquid is mixed with blood. She cleans it off in a motherly fashion. Daisy doesn't say anything except a shuttered 'Thank you.' Poor thing looks traumatized. 'Don't mention it. From now on we should really be more careful where we step.' The others agree.

  27. Suddenly she hears footsteps coming up in the side behind her. Nina sits beside her leans her head on her fur. 'I'm sorry.' She says. Daisy puts her head on Ninas. 'No, I'm sorry.' She means that to Nina, but also to herself. It's not long until Baba comes along, wraps her arm around Daisy and all are together... Sleeping soundly on the beach.

  29. I was trying to make a bee then realized, hey, there are real life pollinators and plants need them to grow and stuff. So, there are multiple pollinators with special abilities. It would fir nicely into niche, even as a separate entity entirely! List of pollinators Let's start with basic pollinators, there are... Birds, (like hummingbirds) bats, (perfect! we already have bat genes!) butterflies, moths, flies, beetles, wasps, small mammals, and bees. Now, lets narrow this list down a bit to make it a bit more compatible with niche. Birds, bats, small mammals, and bees. This may seem short, but there's a lot coming. For all these pollinator genes, we need a way to collect nectar and do other stuff with it! Pollination + nectar collection stats This would kind of work like attack or collecting abilities! Only if you have no nectar collection stats, you can't collect from flowers, even if you have a pollinator stat. If a gene has nectar collection, nectar can be used as a food source! You can only get one food from nectar, so it may not be worth it, but there's a bit of a catch! Pollination so, in real life, plants need to be pollinated to produce fruits. Now, in niche, when the rain comes, berries automatically regrow, and it's completely fine and makes the game hard when you don't have rain for a long time, but maybe, to regrow, plants would need to be pollinated by using nectar collection on one plant, then another before rain comes. (so the pollen stays on) Now, a pollinated plant could have a different scent view so you know that it has been pollinated. (just ideas, not in any way close to something I'd imagine) But green! You may shout, What if you don't have pollinator genes? Separate pollinators A lot of players will tell me to 'make pollination a sandbox option.' What would be the point of the genes, then? But people will be annoyed that I object, and say that you will have to have pollinator genes if this is how this goes. Well, easy fix! Separate pollinator entities! The hummingbee, an entity I made in a separate suggestion, would work perfectly! I gave it a new look and everything! There would most likely be at least one nest/hive on every island as long as there is a tree. They can't travel across water and they can't spawn if it gets too cold. (below average temperature) How would you get these guys to pollinate flowers? Would it just be AI guiding them to flowers they can sense? Well, kinda... If a pollinator is too far away and can't sense the plant(s) that you need it to pollinate, you can take a flower out of the ground (if you have at least one collecting ability) and lead it towards wherever you want to lead it to. But, if it gets too close it will get scared and either A) string you, in which case you drop the flower you are holding or B) run away, making you have to start the process over again. You're better off just being predators? Right? Wrong. Spawn conditions This may be a stretch, but it would balance out the game again. Been trying to balance everything throughout this post. Rabils would need to have a berry bush, lets say, at most, 20 spaces away from their spawn to, well, spawn! And for every berry visible on each bush, 1 rabil will spawn in. And if there are no berries that they can sense around them, they will go back to their burrow if they are still within it's range. And with less prey, comes less predators. Say bye to having wings be your saving grace. The spawn rate of bluebirds will drop, as rabils are their main source of prey. Bareyenas will still spawn, though, as they mostly prey on nichelings. Genes Now for the moment you've been waiting for! Drumroll please! Gene time! Now, I don't have many ideas, but I have a few, and I know you guys will have ideas, too! Bee body A fuzzy body that pollen sticks to easily +1 defense +1 Heat resistance -1 Cold resistance +2 Pollinator Hummingbird Head Why the long face? I mean beak? It's like bird beak, but tweaked to be longer! +2 smelling +2 Nectar collection +1 Pollinator And bat head gains +1 nectar collection and +1 pollinator! And this, folks, is what goes through my mind when I'm bored! Sorry for how long this is and how little art there is! Stray fawn kinda just died

  38. hi I'm a newbie in this community I've been following the niche game since the bta and I didn't even know there was a forum to talk to fellow nichelings hello! Anyway I have a suggestion for the game where there's a feature for a new Rogue female. Since we have Rogue males. Rogue females could have a territory they stay in and have atleast 1-2 babies along with them(maybe 3). When you click them you could possibly smell their territory range. If you approach their territory they could smell you depending on their sense of smell and try and drive you out the territory by attacking. Babies try and stay in a singular area(the territory, that's where they wander)and you can add them to your tribe once you get rid of the rogue. They will do all they can to protect the babies so they will keep attacking you until your out of their territory. Now for their turns im not sure if you should make them move like how normal Rogue males move everytime you do a turn. Or each day they move 3 tiles like bearyeanas. I thought this was a fun little thing to add to killer islands or hard islands if possible since this seems like a difficult task to deal with. And it will add more challenge to those islands!

    1 point
  41. Yeah I like Jojo's idea of reducing speed so there's some type of negative to it, another idea could be that you can't do other actions while carrying the baby besides moving, so no attacking or picking from berry bushes, that way a player wouldn't just constantly carry pups until they reach the age where birds can attack them unless they were already planning on having the creature be idle and sit next to the baby. also the baby should still be able to be attacked when being held. I really really like the idea of being able to carry babies and I think all creatures should be able to do it, it would make gameplay more realistic since in the wild creatures do carry their young all the time.
